Good product, but be cautious of a few things
Very lightweight, compatible ebook reader you can carry anywhere you like. It has a low screen light emission and even a zero screen light option, making it easier on the eyes, and is better than reading books on any of your other devices. I have had it now for over a week, with no protection (ie screen guard or cover) and I have even used it in the shower with me, no issues about that. It also has an inbuilt dictionary which makes it convenient when reading and it even saves the words so you can go back to it later on. The battery life is long and you need to only charge it in a couple of days depending on your reading. Now for the things to note-- There are no free ebooks or a library that come with this, meaning you have to buy or download the ebooks on your own. But there is an option of transferring the ebooks to your kindle email and if it's connected to the WiFi it will automatically download the book(s).- The ebook formats it recognizes are Mobi, unfortunately not epub. But there is plenty of free converter software you can use like calibre which shouldn't make this an issue.- Also do note that if the Mobi format is corrupt or improper then the "display cover as screensaver" function will not work.- Also the screen doesn't turn off unless you switch off the device otherwise, it goes into screensaver mode. Fret not, this doesn't affect the power consumption as much of the power is used to turn pages in the Kindle- There is no headphone jack so to listen to audiobooks you need a Bluetooth speaker or earphones.- The device touchscreen feature isn't as fast as your smartphones, be patient, it was slow for me at first but it works fine within a couple of days. There is still a small lag, and you may have trouble on occasion while turning pages too quickly or sliding and stuff but I'm fine with it and it isn't much of an impediment in my reading experience.- I've read that it's best to have a cover for it (like a leather one, with flap) and not to use screen protection as it would defeat the purpose of a no brightness screen. All in all, it's an amazing product for its value and I would recommend it to any avid reader out there. I've written this review considering for a newbie perspective as it's my first time with an ebook reader and I wish I had known some of these things. Nevertheless, I still believe I would go through with the purchase, but it's better to make an informed choice anyway. Good luck!

I very much appreciate that finally, Kindle becomes available for shipping to Singapore. And to freely buy the Kindle books without having to go through the “workarounds” is to live for -- only the Kindle readers from here truly understand. :)

About the shipping, I ordered it online from Amazon.sg on 15 Dec and received it on 23 Dec which was 5 days earlier than the estimated delivery date. Since it was the Christmas season, I thought there would be some delays but Christmas came early that day. I am happy with the quick delivery and bought it at a promotional price as well.

With regard to setting it up and connecting to the WIFI, I noticed that it can only connect to a 2.4GHz wireless frequency. I am not sure if this is mentioned in the User’s Guide, but if not, I think this information should be taken note of as well. This is because I thought my reader was defective when I tried to connect it to the 5GHz frequency - if I remember it right, the error was incorrect password but actually was not. I also tried to tether my phone to Kindle but I hadn’t had a chance to make it work yet. So for now, I need to connect to my home’s WIFI to update the library.

Reading books from the Kindle app my iPhone vs Kindle are different experiences in itself. With the Kindle app, it feels like I am reading from a glossy page; I can see the colors of photos but there is also a glare that I have to bear with. With Kindle, pages look matte which is like the screen of the Magic Writer (kid’s toy where you can write on then erase with the magnetic glider) but I can read the text even under direct sunlight. So for me, there is some getting used to when I started reading from a Kindle.

Lastly, I bought the Kindle to make my commute worthwhile. Now, I can read anytime, anywhere without the weight :)

Happy reading!

Prior to Paperwhite, I had the first generation kindle, and used it for a number of years before I reverted to reading physical books. Am drawn to Paperwhite, believing the time is right to go e-books again, and that there has been a significant upgrade from the first generation kindle. Furthermore, it is a draw that the Paperwhite can be used for Audible as well. I am not disappointed from the purchase. The reading experience is equally good. The touch-screen works well, is intuitive, and the weight of the Paperwhite is comfortable for prolonged reading. Overall, I am very satisfied!

My Kindle PaperWhite 1 (5th Gen) finally decided to retire. It’s been a good long 7 years of usage. It has served me well. Although I suspect that replacing its battery will bring it back to life, I decided to look for an upgrade.

Since my PaperWhite 1 has been so reliable and for so long, I wanted to continue to own a PaperWhite. As there was a Thanksgiving season promotion at very good rate, I bought the all new Kindle PaperWhite 4 (10th Gen). I can now continue to read my story books!! From PaperWhite 1 to PaperWhite 4, it’s quite an upgrade. Page turning/refresh is noticeably faster. It is also a little bit lighter. Let’s hope that it can serve me at least 7 years too.

Next, I shall start to look around for a case/cover for it

5.0 out of 5 stars Al mijn boeken op één plek!

5.0 out of 5 stars De perfecte e-reader

Reviewed in the Netherlands on 2 November 2020
