It is the story of football (soccer) and how a tribe of underdogs uses the power of love and teamwork to overcome a daunting challenge.
There are plenty of sight gags for the younger viewers and lots of verbal double meanings for the grownups.
It is one of my favorite Aardman films.
The good guys speak in English accents and the bad guys speak in French accents.
The video is very British. If you love the Goon Show, Monte Python, I'm Sorry I'll read that Again, and other seminal British comedies then you will likely love this one.
I was expecting more of a bronze age values meets caveman values, and more of a generational humor based film than one that focused on Europe's favorite team sport. I think if the schism between the old fashioned and newer bronze age society had been played up, then you would have had a better film. As it is now it's merely okay, but still worth seeing at least once.
I hope for better films from Aardman in the future.
