DEGLYCERIZED LICORICE FOR HEARTBURN, STOMACH ULCERS
5 Stars
DEGLYCERIZED LICORICE FOR HEARTBURN, STOMACH ULCERS
Deglycerized licorice is made from the licorice plant, and is used for soothing sore throats and ulcers. When mixed with saliva , DGL becomes active and helps stimulate formation of mucous to buffer stomach and intestines from acids. Ulcers heal more readily when coated with mucous. It needs to be dissolved in your mouth before swallowing so that it can mix with saliva. DGL should be taken 15 to 20 minutes before meals, and wash it down with a glass of water. Taking DGL after meals is ineffective. Can also be dissolved in warm water to make a mouthwash to help heal mouth ulcers called canker sores.Although DGL is considered to be free of glycyrrhizin, it is possible for some small amounts to remain. If you have a history of heart trouble, high blood pressure or low blood potassium exercise caution.I have a long history of gastritis/ acid reflux, and decided to give this a try. I'm also taking aloe vera juice, melatonin, magnesium, hcl, glutamine, unflavored gelatin, digestive enzymes, mastic gum, and soon I'm gonna add slippery elm. If you suffer from acid reflux, most likely your stomach lining has been compromised , so you got to work on repairing your gut first, then all your acid reflux symptoms are gonna start going away. I personally know this is a long process, that it's not gonna happen overnight, but I'm willing to do it.A healthy diet is a plus. Refined carbs and junk foods should be eliminated. Eat lots of raw vegetables, and fruits. Start your day with a glass of veggie/fruit smoothie.I haven't had any side effects while taking it.One last note, if you suffer from GERD, don't take PPI; they only mask the symptoms, and won't correct the problem. Side effects of PPI are: malnutrition, weakness, hair loss, constipation, headaches, anemia, risk of bone fractures, just to name a few.
