Beware updating a Model B sd card causes problems
Update : managed to update my original model b sd from Jessie to Stretch and got everything working as it should. The process was a major pain. But the B+ is noticeably a bit faster and having upgraded wireless and Bluetooth is nice. All in all the mobo is what it’s supposed to be. But the upgrade process from an old card is a pain.I'm sure this is great if you are doing a new install. But I was just upgrading my RetroPie setup and keeping my old sd card image with all my stuff (don't want to start 128gb from scratch). I am switching back to Model B for now and possibly returning, possibly keeping and keep trying, but the update / upgrade did NOT go smoothly for me.So do you think they rolled these out and gave Model B owners an easy way to update / upgrade their sd card to use on B+???? No, you have to do tons of updates and possibly switch from Jessie to Stretch. Even then it's a huge pain. I tried update / upgrade on Jessie and it worked, but I lost WLAN so that was pointless. Then I switched to Stretch and did the update / upgrade, then updated all my packages, but Emulation Station won't launch due to some conflict with VLC. So for now I'm going back to Jessie and hoping I can figure out how to fix one or the other scenario.Yes there's tons of information on the web, with workarounds and fixes, but I have a day job and just doing this for fun for my kids and their friends. So spending my evenings trouble shooting just isn't in the cards. I'll probably keep these and keep trying but for now I'm switching the kids back to their Model B's and I'll give them the B+ if I ever get everything working again.

I've been reading and hearing about the various versions of Raspberry Pi for a long time now, but never fully understood what all of the fuss was about. Now I have one, my first, and I finally get it. If anything, they are under-hyped. If you haven't seen one in person yet, they are much smaller than you probably imagine. If you haven't used one yet, they are much, MUCH, more capable than you probably imagine. It would be good with just 2.4gHz WiFi, but with the built-in dual band AC WiFi it is just plain GREAT! I opted for the very basic CanaKit because I wanted a power supply that fully met the requirements of the Pi, and the heat sinks seemed like a good idea anyway. Everything you need, nothing you don't. The download and installation of the operating system (NOOBS) to a micro SD card I purchased separately couldn't have been easier, and the initial setup was effortless. If the majority of what you do with a computer is browse the Web, email, and light word processing, this little thing could easily be all you need. Where is really shines, and what was the biggest pleasant surprise, was how well it works as a media player using OSMC. No problem at all watching YouTube videos, playing remote content from my Plex computer, or playing local video and music files from a USB drive. All of that without even talking about the programmability or available pins to control external devices, or available accessories like the camera and cases. I almost wish I had gotten one sooner, but then, the Pi 3 B+ with the upgraded processor and fast WiFi, as a complete kit from CanaKit, makes me realize I was just waiting for the one I really wanted.

I wasn't anticipating that I would see much of an increase in performance going from 1.2Ghz to 1.4Ghz processor speed and faster networking, but I was wrong.

This Pi seems much, much faster than the previous P3 B models. I'm not sure if the improvements are from the new OS, The CPU or the Networking, but Chromium was painfully slow before, youtube was barely keeping up in a small window and opening more than one or two tabs would bog the entire system. Now I can view a youtube video full screen (1920x1080). Everything works quicker. It's a viable desktop machine at this point.

    There are a few quirks:
    1) My Keyboard and mouse go through a USB hub and then a USB KVM Switch. This would not work due to "USB Device nested too deep" error in Linux. Had to remove the hub and go straight to the KVM. So there must be some difference in the USB controller from the Pi 3 B.
    2) Even though the P3 B+ supposedly uses less power, I occasionally see the low power "Lightening Bolt" warning when the CPU is really maxed. (Like trying to watch a video through VLC, epic fail). This is with any of my 2.5 amp Canakit Power supplies that NEVER gave me a warning on the Pi 3 B. **(see below)
    3) You must use the new Raspbian Strech version of Raspbian. Raspbian Jesse would not boot.

I'm still giving it 5 stars because most folks won't have an issue and I am so impressed by the performance improvements.

** (edit) I discovered that my low power warning issue went away after removing the in-line microUSB On/Off switches that I normally use. I'm not sure why the non-B plus Raspberry Pi's had no issues with the switches. Nonetheless, the new P3 B+ gave no power warnings (even under heavy CPU loads) when I plugged the USB power sources directly into the Pi's microUSB port.

This is the 3rd Raspberry Pi I've bought. It was a nice little spec bump compared to the non-B+ model. I have multiple Micro SD cards formatted and setup to run on it. It can play retro games as a RetroPie or run Raspian Linux OS that is surprisingly powerful and versatile. A word of caution for people starting out. Make sure you have two things before starting down the RPI path.

1.) Have a good quality power supply that can supply at least 2.5 amps @ 5 volts (Cana-Kit supplies fit that build and work really well).

2.) Make sure you have the "newest" image of the Linux Distribution you plan to install. (like RetroPie 4.4, Raspian 14.4). The older versions of Raspian, RetroPie, etc. have the old firmware and that isn't able to run and WILL NOT BOOT.

If you are running an older version of either of those Linux Distributions on an older RPI you can update it from the older RPI with APT-GET. Either type or copy and paste this command to update your RPI to the newest version.

    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y

You may or may not have to enter a password to run the sudo command (super user / root). It will take a while to run but will update it. My older version of Raspian and RetroPie ran fine after updating it on an older RPI B model. Happy RPI'ing!!!
Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2018
The pi 3 B+ arrived as noted in other reviews. The packaging did not appear to be damaged. I opened the package, formatted a used samsung 16gb microsd using the prescribed utility and unzipped noobs 2.8.2. Connected tv via hdmi and turned on unit...red power light consistent and on but no ACT light and no video signal. Per community suggestions, purchased a new sandisk 32gb microsd and used the same process with the same result. Will update this as the scenario unfolds.

EDIT: upped the rating to 5 stars as the issue was discovered and had nothing to do with the RPI (although might be useful on troubleshooting boards). The PC used to write out the OS to SD card was encrypting the files on write (using a work laptop that encrypts as a protective measure). The ACT light does not show any activity unless the SD card is readable and the OS is actually loaded. It is not enough that the PI is trying to read the card.

CanaKit was easy to work with. On describing the initial issue and troubleshooting steps at that time, they accepted the conclusion re: DOA pi and immediately shipped out another. When it showed the same response as the first, I engaged in the additional troubleshooting showing that it was my issue and not theirs. Both units are operational and CanaKit will be getting the second one back. I will have no reservations about working with them again.
