Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Customers have mixed opinions about the heat sink. Some say the included heat sinks really help a lot, while others say the thermal tape is cheap and the whole board runs warm. The heat fins are good and attach nicely. However, some customers also mention that the tolerances are not correct and the thermal runaway protection often triggers when there isn't a problem.

This Pi seems much, much faster than the previous P3 B models. I'm not sure if the improvements are from the new OS, The CPU or the Networking, but Chromium was painfully slow before, youtube was barely keeping up in a small window and opening more than one or two tabs would bog the entire system. Now I can view a youtube video full screen (1920x1080). Everything works quicker. It's a viable desktop machine at this point.
There are a few quirks:
1) My Keyboard and mouse go through a USB hub and then a USB KVM Switch. This would not work due to "USB Device nested too deep" error in Linux. Had to remove the hub and go straight to the KVM. So there must be some difference in the USB controller from the Pi 3 B.
2) Even though the P3 B+ supposedly uses less power, I occasionally see the low power "Lightening Bolt" warning when the CPU is really maxed. (Like trying to watch a video through VLC, epic fail). This is with any of my 2.5 amp Canakit Power supplies that NEVER gave me a warning on the Pi 3 B. **(see below)
3) You must use the new Raspbian Strech version of Raspbian. Raspbian Jesse would not boot.
I'm still giving it 5 stars because most folks won't have an issue and I am so impressed by the performance improvements.
** (edit) I discovered that my low power warning issue went away after removing the in-line microUSB On/Off switches that I normally use. I'm not sure why the non-B plus Raspberry Pi's had no issues with the switches. Nonetheless, the new P3 B+ gave no power warnings (even under heavy CPU loads) when I plugged the USB power sources directly into the Pi's microUSB port.
1.) Have a good quality power supply that can supply at least 2.5 amps @ 5 volts (Cana-Kit supplies fit that build and work really well).
2.) Make sure you have the "newest" image of the Linux Distribution you plan to install. (like RetroPie 4.4, Raspian 14.4). The older versions of Raspian, RetroPie, etc. have the old firmware and that isn't able to run and WILL NOT BOOT.
If you are running an older version of either of those Linux Distributions on an older RPI you can update it from the older RPI with APT-GET. Either type or copy and paste this command to update your RPI to the newest version.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y
You may or may not have to enter a password to run the sudo command (super user / root). It will take a while to run but will update it. My older version of Raspian and RetroPie ran fine after updating it on an older RPI B model. Happy RPI'ing!!!
EDIT: upped the rating to 5 stars as the issue was discovered and had nothing to do with the RPI (although might be useful on troubleshooting boards). The PC used to write out the OS to SD card was encrypting the files on write (using a work laptop that encrypts as a protective measure). The ACT light does not show any activity unless the SD card is readable and the OS is actually loaded. It is not enough that the PI is trying to read the card.
CanaKit was easy to work with. On describing the initial issue and troubleshooting steps at that time, they accepted the conclusion re: DOA pi and immediately shipped out another. When it showed the same response as the first, I engaged in the additional troubleshooting showing that it was my issue and not theirs. Both units are operational and CanaKit will be getting the second one back. I will have no reservations about working with them again.
