Quality!

Quality!
I've wanted a Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe for some time now and did not want to spend more than $200-220 as I already have a larger Liam Hoffman axe and a smaller LH hatchet (lead time is now 6-9 months and cost almost double), so wanted something 'in between'. The axe is beautiful, as is the handle; handle grain is perfectly aligned, unlike other axes/hatchets I have purchased over the years, whose misalignment can lead to splitting/warping. I would give the leather cover about an 8.5 out of 10 for quality. Not the 'best' leather workmanship I have ever seen for an axe cover, but high quality; the edges were unfinished and not polished or color matched. But after a first coat of boiled linseed oil, who cares. The rivets are high quality and properly spaced. As for the metal quality, one of the best I have ever seen and contrary to a few other reviews, here on Amazon and elsewhere, the axe came sharpened to a 'Wicked Sharp Edge'. I have a small 1/2" puncture mark on my left palm to prove it: when applying oil to the handle, I barely touched my left palm with the upper edge of the axe and it cut me.I have yet to use the axe but will extensively on an upcoming trip to the UP. This is a genuine GB axe and I would highly recommend this version and if you are already looking for a genuine GB axe/hatchet, these are genuine and not replicas.
