  • Product Description

The Lenovo Miix 630 is our first device built around the new Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. What does this mean? You’re always on, always connected. LTE connectivity means that your PC is not limited to Wi-Fi range - your emails, messages, and social feeds are constantly syncing. This constant connection won’t wear on your battery. We’ve developed a low efficiency, standby mode that delivers up to 20 hours battery life. Snapdragon has also allowed us to build a strikingly thin, light, fanless design. The Miix 630 comes with a detachable keyboard and pen for ultimate flexibility and productivity.

Lenovo Connect offers global LTE connectivity across 5 continent and over 130+ destinations. It offer private connection with the encryption and authentication from cellular technology. Lenovo Connect offers prepaid plan – with no hidden fees.

Overall good performance, but flimsy keyboard and low battery life
After 2 months of light use (occassionally and strictly at home), the plastic connecting the tablet and the keyboard starts to come out (see picture). And I have been extremely careful around it at home, so I believe it might be a design issue. I ordered a new (not refurbished) 2-in-1 laptop, and it does not come with warranty. I looked up the warranty terms and conditions online and it appears that the warranty period was from 2018-2019, and it doesn't seem like there is an option for even purchasing a warranty (and if it does, not sure whether or not it will cover these kind of 'issues'). So basically I am not sure who can I turn to if my laptop acts up at some point in the future. Definitely something to consider if you are thinking of buying a laptop. In terms of the actual hardware, since I have limited apps, so far it's working well. Once I got it, I charged it for a little bit and turned it on and it's good to go. Surfing the internet and all that is smooth and mostly depends on your own wifi network and other factors. So far I haven't seen any issues with performance. However, it does drain battery life quickly. Let's just say I won't feel comfortable taking it out to a coffee shop without a charger, and it's safer to always take the charger with you since battery life is not great. However, I like the fact that it's a 2-in-1 so I can easily use it in tablet mode and detach the keyboard. Also it's pretty thin but it lacks ports (which means you will need some external hubs for USB, etc) - hence the 4 stars. The keyboard itself is plastic-made and you can feel it while you type. Not super sturdy and looks cheaply made. There tends to be a lag as you type but sometimes all it takes is just to take out the tablet and reattach it again to the keyboard.

I bought this primarily to try out Windows 10 on ARM as well as do testing and software development for it, and I've come to really enjoy using it as a personal device. With its Snapdragon 835 processor, you don't get any hardware virtualization support, but you do get excellent battery life, so long as you never turn the device off. For some reason turning it completely off causes the battery to drain rapidly, so just leave it on and let it sleep to get the best battery life.

Additionally, Microsoft decided not to support the Snapdragon 835 for Windows 11, so this device is stuck on Windows 10 - that's a good thing in my opinion. Of course, this means you can't run 64-bit x86 apps, but you can still run 32-bit x86 apps, 32-bit ARM apps, and 64-bit ARM apps. Many apps are already getting native ARM64 versions, including Edge, Firefox, Paint Dot Net, OneDrive, and more. Just be aware that while ARM64 apps will work, ARM64EC apps will not as they require Windows 11's 64-bit x86 support.

There aren't many games that have ARM64 versions yet, but the ones that do exist work fine in my experience, and 32-bit x86 games also work fine. Just be aware that only DirectX 11 and 12 (and a limited subset of OpenGL) are supported, you won't be able to play games that require Vulkan, and some games may refuse to launch due to disliking the Snapdragon 835's GPU, but in my experience most games I've been interested in have worked fine. I definitely wouldn't recommend this device for gaming though as it only has 4 GB of RAM and the Xbox app isn't compatible.

I enjoy using the touch screen, though I don't use the pen much. The pen battery is a AAAA which I didn't even know existed, but I only had to replace it recently after it lasted for years.

The included keyboard misses keystrokes sometimes, but it doesn't bother me much. The included stand is really nice as it allows you to adjust the angle in laptop mode. I don't use tablet mode much but it works fine in my experience. The audio jack works fine, though normally I use bluetooth audio. It would be nice to have more than one USB-C port, but if you get a proper USB-C hub you can still power/charge the device while connecting other things too. The one that works for the M1 MacBook pro doesn't pass through enough power to charge this device though, but Lenovo does sell one that does.

I tried the Lenovo Vantage app once, it seems rather scummy, just uninstall it - it's not hard to get back if you ever need it. There's no more firmware updates anyway as this device is out of support. It runs the latest version of Windows 10 just fine and that's that. You can uninstall apps to your liking and keep the OS clean without any trouble.

I installed a SIM card for mobile data from Ting and that works just fine whenever power goes out and I don't have wi-fi. I really like this feature personally, gives me peace of mind.

It comes initially with Windows 10 in S mode, but you can leave S mode for free and get full Windows 10 Pro easily. It's impressive to see full fat Windows 10 Pro running so well on a RISC-based processor, and I'm immensely happy with my purchase. It can run WSL1 as well, but not WSL2 due to the lack of hardware virtualization support. Still, this means easy access to ARM-based Linux distributions. I haven't tried booting Linux on it yet, but MemTest86 has an ARM64 version and it boots and runs just fine.

If you just want to try Windows 10 or 11 on ARM for cheap, you can get the Microsoft QC710 developer kit which comes with a less powerful Snapdragon 7c and 4 GB RAM, but you can upgrade it from Windows 10 to 11 if you want. If you want some more powerful Windows on ARM hardware, you can check out the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s, which can have up to 32 GB of RAM with its Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor. I think this Lenovo Miix 630 is a pretty decent middle ground though, certainly worth the price in my opinion. Shame they discontinued it so quickly.

With the new windows update, this computer was excellent. The battery life was incredible, almost 14 hours running windows pro. The touchscreen was accurate, and the pen was super accurate with no lag. The LTE connection was solid, in my area I was consistently getting 120 mbps on verizon. With the newest update to windows, chrome worked flawlessly, as did firefox.

My only complaint was I could not get office to activate. Despite having an office 365 subscription, it kept telling me that my "trial has expired." I think that could be because I downloaded and installed the version from the web instead of using the built in office (which I uninstalled).

I would absolutely recommend this laptop, mine just had that weird error that I couldn't get fixed.

I love the screen quality and the optical login works flawlessly for me. Sips battery at a remarkably slow rate. Overall, I love the product - but there are some "gotchas." You will want to opt out of Microsoft's security version of Windows 10 immediately as it will not let you install any pc apps that it cannot verify. Most of which should be allowed in. Secondly, the Microsoft Surface App Store has a long way to go in its offerings and is yet to establish itself. Another reason to opt out of Windows-S. Finally, this is a heavy tablet that will not survive a 3 or 4 foot drop to the ground like a phone or an iPad would. The keyboard case does not provide that kind of protection and very few 3rd party cases exist. And the screen is not built with the same material as gorilla glass. So, you will need to be much more careful when carrying it.
