Light & sturdy poles, but make sure to get the right snow baskets.

Light & sturdy poles, but make sure to get the right snow baskets.
I bought these for some winter mountaineering because I found good reviews on the brand. They're 3 season poles, and I was worried the baskets were too small for deep snow. I had limited time to buy anything, but REI didn't have any of the special baskets that fit these. I bought some Leki flex tips and baskets. I'm sure the Black Diamond snow baskets would work similarly. Just keep in mind that these may not fit certain attachments because of the permanent mud basket on the tips. These were extremely helpful on our trip for balance, propulsion, and climbing out of deep snow when it collapses under you.I was originally going to buy some cheap carbon fiber poles from some off brand, but saw reviews about them snapping in half when you need them. These definitely feel sturdy. On one near fall I saw my right pole vibrate while absorbing the shock. I'm afraid the cheapo carbon fiber pole would've just snapped. I feel like it could be pretty dangerous if you feel on a snapped pole. The only thing I don't love about these poles is the grip. There are grooves in the foam which were a little distracting after it got warm enough to take off my gloves. However, it didn't bug me for too long before I stopped noticing. With the overall quality of the product, I'd say it's a small issue.

These poles are quite light and very strong. I had no problem with them on a multi-day backpacking trip in wilderness areas with lots of granite, scrambling over boulders, etc. The rubber tips give great traction.

I found the locking feature easy to use, once you understand how it works. There seem to be some reviewers who never figured out how to lock the poles together, but it's quite simple, and they do not come apart when locked.

Very light. Surprised at how compact they are when folded. The folding system works easily. The poles seen sturdy but may have more flex than a solid pole (but none of the convenience if you wish to stow them away on a hike or run). On a quick three-mile hike I got a little rubbing on my thumb from the straps. Overall, a great value on a very good pole that I think will do exactly what I bought the set for.

I was tempted to purchase this trekking pole unless I did some homework on other people's reviews and opinions. In fact, one of the reasons I purchase this trekking pole is because of the deal and it has excellent reviews from other hikers/backpackers. The fact that this is made of aluminum and is on the heavier side made this trekking pole very sturdy in long term. On top of that, I upgrade my tent to trekking pole tent so I prefer something that can hold the sturdy during unpredictable weather.

I bought these for a cross desert hike where there were no trails. I was carrying a 50lbs pack and the terrain was rough and very uneven. These poles did me the solid of never tripping or slipping when I would have done without them.

The tip of one of the poles broke off, but contacting the manufacturer directly has them sending me out a replacement piece.

I was skeptical, since I've never used poles before and after listening to podcasts and reading reviews decided that not having a shock absorbing feature and not having them be adjustable would keep the weight down and the pole compact.

It delivers on all promises including customer support. Highly recommend!

I was a little skeptical because of the price but am so glad I purchased these. I previously had cork gripped poles and they were causing blisters. I see that some folks indicated that they had trouble with the poles coming apart and was concerned about that but quickly realized that if you don't use the locking device correctly, they will come apart however, if you utilize it correctly, you will have no problems at all. It took me a little bit to figure out that I needed to pull the locking device up past the point where it seemed like I should stop. I took them out yesterday and they worked so well.. I also liked the fact that I was able to fold them up and they fit in my day pack when I didn't need them. Great product 👍

I used these poles for a Grand Canyon trek, and am very happy with them. They are light, but sturdy enough to provide stability on the icy trail going into and out of the Canyon. They assemble and disassemble quickly and are very compact to fit in my pack when I'm not using them. I should have gotten these years ago!

Used these poles for 2 years now. They are great. Obviously, foldable design has its own disadvantages but so far these have met my expectations.
I took these to Alberta and did a few scrambling with them.
Have no clue why some gave these a low rating but they are for sure great poles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great poles!

This is a top brand though perhaps less glamorous than Leki and they very light and effective. These are not adjustable for height, so it is important to buy the correct size. I occasionally lend mine to a DofE student who is struggling, and to be honest being too long for them doesn't really make much difference if it helps them finish. I was too proud to be seen using poles (sad, I know!) but now I use them lots as it makes hill ascents so much easier and faster and protects my dodgy knees. They help with balancing on rocky stuff too, though I find I can become over-dependant on them for balance, so sometimes choose not to use them.
