**update on initial review***I thought I was done in new hunting stuff other than replace worn out duds but NO!Found a new do-dad and bought it:Bushnell Equinox Z Digital Night Vision Monocular1. Larger than it looks like in the photos online. It is about 2x as large as a good hand held range finder2. Heavy. Heavy without the batteries and the batteries do not add too much to the weight.3. It comes with a carry zipper bag. It fits but it takes effort to get it back in the bag.4. Buttons are all black so hard to see in the dark. The feel to each button is similar and not distinctive so you can not tell what button you are near. This gets more difficult wearing any glove.5. Night vision is good. I can see out at least 200 yards at night.6. It does not come with a reticle so using this to use as a scope for hog or night varmint hunting is not appliable if you mount this on a gun/crossbow etc.7. It does come with a Weaver rail.8. It has a slot so you can mount it on a tripod you need that for long term viewing as the picture can wobble.9. Fine in daylight but with good binos that is not a big feature10. It has a mini SD slot to take pictures or videos. I have not worked that feature yet.11. I picked the 40mm ibjective over the 50mm as I wanted a wider field of view. I think that is needed for night views, too short a FOV you may miss a miving target slipping through the night.12. Nice IR, I doubt any critter will notice the IR

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool and tons of fun!!!
Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2016
I've read the reviews and researched the different types and all the brands and yada yada. After much debate, I elected to go digital versus conventional. In that department, these seemed to fit the bill better than most of the others.

Pro's

Very tough, Nice picture (Once focused-more on that), Ability to take photos and video. Ability to turn off the IR, Ability to see more than 50 yards(It does), Ability to rifle mount(It does with mount available through bushnell, Not that I would, but), Above all, it actually works at night. (It does and it does it very well.

Cons

Its a battery hog. (They all are)
A little heavy (Not really an issue)
Magnification is quite high so field of view can become an issue if you aren't prepared. (Prevalent in all of them unless you want to spend thousands) You might ask why I didn't get the 3X? Because you cant take pictures or video with it.

That's about it. On to the focus. First, there are many ways to adjust brightness in this unit, so don't let the other reviews that complain talk you out of it. It does exactly what its supposed to. You need to follow the directions on how to focus this and the other units. First turn on and focus the eye piece to the lcd inside the unit. Then, never touch it again unless someone else uses it, then just refocus when you use it. Then, focus the lens out to the distant, or near, object. That's all there is to it, hit record for video or picture if desired and have fun in the dark! This thing is awesome but you might want to get some rechargeable batteries i'm thinkin'....

The photo is from my living room couch to the sink in total darkness, about 30 feet, without IR and only ambient light from the windows.
