"A Match Made in a Want Ad"

When they say be careful what you wish for, do you pay attention?
Neither did Oliver Tunstead.

Oliver wishes for nothing more than to get his mind off his crappy bartending job, pile of debt big enough to swallow him whole, and playboy ex-boyfriend/boss who refuses to back off. Too bad distractions, like the hot little convertible he has his eye on, cost megabucks. And Oliver is flat broke. Renting the spare bedroom in his rundown beachfront cottage is his only option to pick up the cash he needs—a risky proposition, as Oliver is the polar opposite of a people-person. When he responds to a bizarre ad in the Waterfront Gazette seeking summer housing, he gets more than he bargained for. But Oliver can cope… After all, how much harm can a single quirky tenant do to his tightly guarded life in three short months?

Where Oliver is a loner by design, urban cowboy Bodie is a loner by necessity. A family dispute long ago dropkicked him onto the path of a lifelong wanderer. This changes when Bodie moves into the tiny beachfront cottage and starts working the door at Oliver’s bar.

Despite Oliver and Bodie’s nearly paralyzing instinct to avoid commitment, they fall into a wary romance. And to their surprise, life as a couple is sweetly satisfying; that is, until their jealous boss devises a cruel plan to destroy the tentative bond they’ve built. True to form, Bodie hits the road, leaving Oliver to lick his wounds alone.

Can these wounded souls defy their urge to flee and fight for love?

Authors Mia Kerick and Jude Munro take readers on a crazy romantic adventure in their book Born for Leaving. You’ll meet Oliver, a man who is intent on forgetting his former relationship and other current troubles. Along the way, he meets Bodie. Bodie recently moved into a small cottage across from the bar where Oliver works. One day, they happen to meet. Over time, they find themselves in a relationship they had no intention of being in. Eventually, trouble comes between them. Will they be able to make up or will they leave each other forever?

The book features a well-developed plot and plenty of memorable characters. Keep in mind that there is some strong adult content in it. If you’re not comfortable with this, you might want to consider something different. Despite this, the book is ideal for those who are on the search for a unique story to enjoy.

“Born for Leaving” by Mia Kerick is an incredibly well-written story about two men dealing with the complexities of love after being hurt. Ollie is our main protagonist, and he really just wants things to go right for once. After breaking up with his ex-boss, he needs to away, but money is not something he’s great with handling. He rents out a spare room and ends up with Bodie, a wanderer, and gets him a job at the bar where Ollie works – a bit of a recipe for disaster once Ollie’s jealous ex finds out what’s going on. Ollie and Bodie fight their chemistry, but it’s undeniable and unavoidable. As their relationship becomes more public knowledge, it seems like everyone is out to get them, but with the help of some friends who want to see them both get their happily ever after, it’s not quite as easy for Bodie to run like he would have in the past.

This story tugged at my heart. Both Bodie and Oliver came from such life-changing backgrounds. Their love helped them move beyond those pasts. Bodie was a strong man on the outside but such a little wounded boy on the inside. He was so protective of Oliver from the beginning that I couldn't help but like him. Oliver had his life plan on track before the nastiness came up. I loved his acceptance of Bodie as well as his tenderness as they connected. The secondary characters were brief but wonderful (all except one nasty man). I enjoyed this book and recommend it.

I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

So many character interactions were too hard to believe, didn’t make sense nor did they feel authentic. I almost quit reading but didn’t want yet another DNF this week. I can’t enjoy characters that are supposed to be grown men yet act like doormats for an abuser, doing absolutely nothing constructive to help themselves. Lots of issues with this one.

The author, Jude Munro Mia Kerick, has used the concept of complex trauma in the most sensitive of ways and converted that into a heartfelt story worthy of the Oscars. The author truly renders their story in a compassionate way and even making the characters come alive as if they bounced out of the pages of the book. Very artistic and professional portrayal of their lives. Thank you for putting your story on KU.

A lot of things can happen in a book, but it becomes more impactful if emotions are involved.
Oliver Tunstead, the main character in this novel, struggles with so many things: Stopping a troubling relationship with a playboy boss, finding a manageable accommodation, handling a pesky tenant, and trying to join all the dots in his life.
The beauty of this tale lies in its plots and sub-plots. These make the story’s tempo to be consistent and enjoyable.
I am particularly interested in the diction as well as the characterization. I think the author’s admirable ability is displayed in the way the characters are formed.
Very few books rouse emotions as this one; it also reveals that human life is always a project-in-development.

I was really able to identify with both Bodie and Oliver in the beginning.
Mia takes on another emotional roller coasters; a method of story telling for which she is well known. Lead characters that you just can't help but from an emotional attachment to. And an antagonist that you love to despise.

This was a great read. I enjoyed this book. Oliver was a great character and Bodie is a lost cowboy who needed a home. Tragedy comes and there love is almost lost but love heals everything. Loved there HEA. Great Read from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good read

This is the first book I have read from this author and I loved it.
Two very likeable main characters as well as some dubious side characters make for a good story with a, thankfully, HEA.
Look forward to the next in the series
