Author of Gut-Wrenching Darkness

"If Stephen King got together with Tom Clancy and wrote an erotica book...,"

...is how Marissa describes her books when asked. She doesn't seek to write any particular genre, style, or length, only following her gut instincts and the lead of her characters. The Life of Anna crosses many genre lines including erotica, suspense, psychological thriller, horror, political conspiracy, paranormal, and romance. Marissa's story of Anna began with a dream about being kidnapped with Adam Savage from Mythbusters (Yes, really). Over the next year and a half, it morphed into the story that is now known as "The Life of Anna." She has also published Distorted Hope, which is based on her kidnapped dream. Abandoned Grace was published last year as a side story to The Life of Anna.

Marissa stays busy running her household, fending off two adorable kittens, and interacting with her readers on social media. She is a self-proclaimed geek and is striving to learn the basics of graphic design. She is also actively pursuing a more natural lifestyle, which includes essential oils, natural cleaning products, and whole, organic foods. Marissa's addictions include the Science and History Channels, anything chocolate mint, vintage books, cute kitty cats and laughter.

I have to say that I read part 1 of this series a while ago and it keep popping up in my mind that I had to get the rest of the series. Unfortunately, some retailers have started to remove the books so if you are interested in reading this Dark, Twisted, Depraved story you better grab it while you can. You have to take this author's warning seriously! I am a huge dark fan and this will push every limit you have.

ENSLAVED – book 1
Anna’s parents were killed when she was a young girl and her guardian Jack took her in and he and Devin began to condition her for a life as a sex slave. She is now a fearful shell of a person. Her only desire is to please her masters in an attempt to avoid, or minimize, the sadistic punishments that are frequently inflicted upon her. She was in effect brainwashed by the two men. This is a complex beginning to the series with paranormal elements and a complete powerful secret society ruled by powerful men. Three of these men are Wilhelm and his sons, Alex and Kurt who see Anna as something special but she is under Devin’s control. There are many secrets and confusing elements in the first book but the last ritual scene was powerful and keep me interested in reading more.

ENTWINED – Book 2
This book is complex. A part of you is morbidly fascinated by the events and another part is horrified that someone could abuse a young girl in that manner. I am hoping that Alex is able to protect Anna before it’s too late, but since there are 3 more books in the journey it is unlikely. It seems like every guy she comes in contact with treats her badly.

EMBRACED - Book 3
This book is a bit lighter if that is possible. Devin is becoming more powerful, but Alex is trying hard to be able to save Anna. We are able to understand the Brotherhood and Anna’s background now. There seem to be many men that Anna falls for, but in the end her ‘training’ is strong and she still views herself as a slave.

ENSNARED – Book 4
We pick up two years after book 3 ended, Anna exists in a drug-induced haze now that Alex has disappeared. Devin controls the drugs which he uses to control Anna. When Devin needs her back he weans her from the drugs and uses other severe methods to keep her in line. She is able to begin dancing again and finds some happiness, but things are not better for her yet.

EMERGED - Book 5
If you're made it this far you will be thrilled to finally get an HEA! Finally, things take a turn and the good guys are able to take out the evil. It was a perfect ending to a twisted series. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t easy and straight forward and at times I wasn’t sure it was going to happen, but it was amazing. I would have liked to see Devin suffer more, but after the years of abuse he lead nothing could have evened the scales so at least he finally is gone.

This is one of my all time favorite dark series and I hope the author continues to write in this genre!

well I’ll start with the negatives…
I could not stand the writing style, I didn’t like the half 1st point of view then 3rd person type writing
another thing I didn’t care for was the lack of character build in almost EVERY single character, the several book series could have done better with development.

now onto the good…
WOW !! what a story, I am sooooo glad I pushed through to finish. some of the things were hard to get through and it took longer than it normally does but it was so worth it.
I loved the love between Alex and Anna, it was fairytale given the circumstances of Anna’s life.
I hated how immature and childish Anna was as an adult but it was expected for how she was conditioned and treated for the most impressionable years of life.
her strength, resilience and even tactics were much needed to make it through the horrid acts thrust upon her.
I enjoyed the true friendships she made, even if most were created in a sexual manner at first. Her sweet, gentle, loving nature made her the perfect woman to fall in love with.
I wish we had more of a future in the epilogue, I feel like she would make a wonderful mother in spite of the way she was raised by Jack and Devin.
Devin was the perfect villain for this story. He was conniving, vile, evil, cruel and every other bad word in the English language. his future plans for power made him into one of the most selfish villains I’ve read to date. and I was absolutely hoping Anna would have been able to make his life a little worse than she did.
We read as Anna became the woman she was supposed to be and she flourished with Alex, I absolutely loved that for her.

It’s not for the faint of heart.

This book literally caught me in the first chapter. I cried for Anna and hated so many of her tormentors. It was a very good book and I read it in 3 days. Longest book I ever read. Thank you

Well developed characters going through an incredibly harrowing journey. They land well at the end, but they path there is absolutely as brutal and horrific as it gets. As someone recovering from abuse, it was quite a cathartic read, but I cannot recommend it to anyone who has literally any trigger sensitivities. The author says she doesn't use trigger warnings, and that's fair, because it would need to contain essentially every trigger.

If you are sensitive, do not read this book. If you do not think you are sensitive, you should still consider not reading this book.

But if you can handle reading about grotesque violence and want to see a truly evil man get wrecked, enjoy.

Smutty bits are A+.

Some of the violence is stomach churning. I am not sensitive and had visceral responses to this story. Tread with care.

This book definitely is right when it's described as a dark book. Completely messed up, but extremely good, definitely not for those who are a little sensitive.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Very dark but what a great story!

WOW! I do not know where she came up with this story. The context is very dark but the story and characters were amazing. Anna is so strong to survive everything that happened to her. To have so much taken away from her and be treated the way she was was horrific. I was sad, angry and completely devastated at certain points during the series. But then you had all of Anna's friends who loved her and tried to protect her that made up for all the darkness in the book. I could not put it down. This book is not for everyone. But if you love a great dark romance with strong characters and a HEA, then you have to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMFG Powerful stuff

If you dare to read this book be aware the warnings are not there for fun. They are dead serious warnings. Not only that, but you will be so invested in the characters that when the author rips out your heart you will feel it. Totally. I had not expected this. I wanted to skip ahead to the end to make sure there was a HEA. Resist I did and you must too.

This book is not for the feint of heart. I lost hours of sleep reading more pages, hoping for a bit of relief to the anguish of Anna and the others. It is powerful. My last night I read until I had no choice but to sleep with less than 10% to go. I had my worst nightmare ever in my life. Believe me, I have nightmares/intense dreams most nights but this was FU.

So was it worth it? Yes. Unequivocally, unexpectedly, yes. Although I started reading for free wth Kindle Unlimited, I decided to buy the book anyway. I want to encourage the author to write more. The story was complex and intense - no boring bits. Well worth it's price. Unlike other books that are here on Amazon, each instalment would be worth $10 on their own. Easily.

I want to give you more to warn you not to read it but to encourage you to yes read it! I know I will reread it again. Not today - maybe in 6 months. Everything else by this author too.

The first four books were very hard to read, I admit I cried and at times felt sick. This book is not a book to enjoy, its a book you endure. You are with Anna, a beautiful, talented girl who's desire is to dance and to be loved.
The story was disgustingly grim, traumatic and heartbreaking. Anna suffers abuse and cruelty from the people who are meant to love her from an early age. She is a slave to be used, raped and beaten repeatedly by a group of the most abhorrent evil men who are running the country, being manipulated by Devin the devil himself. Never in all my time reading a book did I want characters to meet a torturous death.
The rare moments where Anna is given some comfort in the cruelty of her world are truly heartbreaking.
Devin and jack are monsters, cruel, evil men and the depravity Anna endures at their hands is not easy to absorb in reading. How she is still sane and why she tolerates the abuse is because of fear and the occasional praise from her abusers which she mistakes as love.
The author tells an uncomfortable story and its brilliance is the simplicity of its delivery.
The abuse described is very detailed and really disturbing and at times revolting. How a man can torture a gentle soul like anna, all in the pursuit of power. Characters were layered and well developed and brilliantly presented. The dialogue was fantastic. I was drawn into Annas world and felt like I wanted to save her. Amazing character.
Brilliant storytelling.

This series was gripping and horrific.

From the beginning to the end, as I turned every page I wondered what the author could possibly do next.

There were parts of this series that were shocking and extremely difficult to read but I wanted to see how it all played out, so I pushed through.

I found myself experiencing so many emotions throughout the story, but the biggest was hope. I was wishing and hoping that the author would give Anna the happy ending she fully deserved.
