Helps Your Dog’s Digestion and Mental Health
Veterinarians recommend slow feeders to aid digestion and reduce bloating, and dogs love the challenge. Fewer treats will dispense when you set the difficulty level harder, making your pup work harder for their food.

Durable - This thing is made of hard plastic. It can withstand some good punishment. If your dog isn't a chewer, like mine, this will last a lifetime. Even if they are a chewer, it'll take a more powerful breed to really destroy it. If you're dog is a heavy chewer, this toy (like all toys) should be used under supervision. Otherwise, this is perfect for medium and smaller dogs without question.
Adjustable Difficulty - This is very nice feature. Such a simple configuration allows you to challenge your dog to cater to their interest level. On the lowest difficulty setting, it can easily take a dog 10-15 minutes to empty. The difficulty setting begins at approximately 1.25 inches vertical and .5 inches horizontal for the 5 inch version. The vertical is adjustable.
Just a tip: Measure your kibble to see if it is compatible. Treats are easy to halve to adjust to the diameters but if you're using this as a feeding tool for fast eaters, finding out that your kibble will not dispense can be a downer.
Cleanable - This easily comes a part for fast and easy cleaning. This gives you options. Just as an example, My dog loves peanut butter. So, I place a little bit of it on the inside to further engage his nose and interest in his kibble. Easy to clean afterwards and makes his meal even more desirable.
Multiple Uses - Food dispenser (providing the kibble meets the specs I mentioned prior) or treat dispenser. That's a nice option to have. The 5 Inch version will hold slightly more than a half a cup of kibble per use. So, for the most part, you can feed your dog their meals using this toy.
CONS:
Smaller breed (Non toy) have a decision to make -
Normally, the 5 inches would be for medium to larger dogs and the 3.5 would be for the smaller 15 lbs and under range.
The former is true but for dog owners of the latter, you have a decision to make.
The 3.5 variety is more play friendly for smaller breeds. They can engage themselves a bit more into the activity when they can throw the ball around themselves or you can engage with them in fetch. The problem is, that the smaller variety is more vulnerable to getting trapped under couches, entertainment centers, or anything that is a small height off the ground. You also have to fill the 3.5 variety more often. I personally use this toy as a distraction for separation anxiety and mild energy drain, so I opted for the 5 inch variety for my Jack Russell. It's less likely to get stuck under furniture (which I found to be important if you plan to use this toy without supervision) and allows me to fill it with half meals and the expense of it being only capable as a push toy for him.
Noisy - This certainly can be a noisy toy. Think of a slightly quieter child's push toy with the balls that rattle as they move it. That's describes it well enough, I think. Personally, it's not an issue as I find it ignorable. However, to those with hard wood floors and tiles, it can be a minor adjustment to tune out. Also, your dog may have a small learning curve if they're uneasy with a rattle noise. It shouldn't be too much to overcome once they realize the rattle noise equates to treats and fun. It's just something to point out.
Maneuverability for small breeds - This is strictly a push toy for smaller dogs if you choose the 5 inch. I wish it came with a means of attaching a rope for further engagement. Just a minor quip.
Overall, this is an excellent product of simple design.
This is a toy I'd recommend as a tool for fast eaters, separation anxiety, mild energy drain, or just play time. Definitely, one of the best food dispensing balls on the market right now.
Cheers.
The good:
--The best feature is the adjustable opening - this and the Twist N Treat are the only decent toy feeders with an adjustable opening that I've been able to find. It's a big plus since obviously a lot of the kibble and treats out there come in different sizes and with this feature you get to control how difficult the game will be for the dog.
--It really does give the dog a good workout - comes in real handy for rainy days or other days when a good long walk is not an option. My dog will keep at it for a long time and looks fairly tuckered out if I let her eat a whole meal of kibble from it. This is a lifesaver b/c she recently underwent heartworm shots and is on strict bed-rest - no excitement, no strenuous activity, walking limited to one block - for 3 months (when the vet explained this I didn't know how we were going to get through it). This and the Busy Buddy Twist n Treat, which she also loves, are good for giving her a mental workout, occupying her time and expending energy in the absence of regular exercise.
--Works great on both carpet and tile floors in our experience. Pretty sturdy; haven't had it come apart during use as of yet.
--One plus over the Busy Buddy is that this thing makes a lot of noise when used - I guess this could be a downside depending on your preference, the reason I think it's a plus is that when I'm in another room and hear the treat ball rattling around I know the dog is occupied and not up to mischief (she's got a real talent for getting into things she shouldn't ;-).
The less-than-good:
--After just a few weeks the top plastic part is showing very small feather cracks (it's been banged against walls and furniture legs quite a bit and my dog is a pretty determined chewer), but don't look worrisome at this point because it looks like the plastic is pretty thick and probably wouldn't break. I'll keep you posted, though! That said, I still believe this is one of the best feeder toys out there.
Tips/suggestions:
--I think it's in the instructions, but you do need to make it a little easier for the dog at first (esp if s/he hasn't ever eaten out of a toy before) so s/he doesn't lose interest. My dog has eaten out of the Busy Buddy for months, so picking up how to use this was not real hard for her. I did still start easy by leaving the opening at the widest option. To make it super easy, you could, as I think another reviewer suggested, remove the inner plastic disc altogether.
Top reviews from other countries
La facilidad de cambiar el nivel de dificultad es muy conveniente.
Se cayó de alturas considerables (1.70m) sin sufrir daños.
To be fair, we love them all for different reasons, Nina ball is good for Penny after a long walk when she's a bit tired and treats come out quicker. Or perhaps a good toy for a dog who is new to the food dispenser toys.
The Wobble ball is good middle ground toy, but she does manage to knock the level adjuster with her paw and make easier for herself! Clever pooch, other times she makes it harder!
This toy I like that the adjuster is inside the toy, no accidental knocking. She gets a cup of kibble in the 4 inch ball most in the bottom compartment, the rest in the top. This acts as a good means of immediate reward and grabs her focus. And slowly builds up difficulty. For a dog who gets frustrated with the toy, you could take the middle plate out to encourage use.
Some people have reviewed lower it seems because their dog got bored or frustrated, perhaps it is too hard for them? Maybe use the technique I tried? Use multiple dispensers and set the appropriate difficulty level for your pup.
Other people have said the toy was destroyed, lucky Penny is not a chewer! But anything plastic is not going to stand up to chewers and your dog would need to be supervised, better toys would be rubber based toys e.g. Kong's but most toys come with a warning to supervise.
He's a small to mid size dog so he can't get his mouth around it so it sitters around and keeps him entertained for hours. The fact that it has dual compartments one that lets the dog hear it, the other that lets him see it makes it difficult enough to be interesting and stimulating enough to keep Buster enjoying it day after day.
It's a harder plastic ball so can be a little noisy in the hardwood but for outdoors or carpet it's perfect and they don't mind it in their hard floors either.
They have had it for a year now and have had no problems.
