On paper this looked terrific. Reality was a different story
On paper this looked terrific. Reality was a different story. My first impression was that it had an appealing design and nice fit and finish. That impression didn't last long. Here are some thoughts I hope help others make the right buying choice for them.LCD DISPLAYThe screen has a nice image but backlight bleeding on my unit was some of the worst I've seen. I worked in the LCD backlight industry and know some level of bleeding is to be expected. This backlight bleed was totally unacceptable and was evident during normal screen usage.I suspect that the unacceptable backlight bleeding is not present in all units produced. However, the shoddy laptop lid is common to all units. The laptop lid is flimsy and flexes easily with any screen position adjustment causing ripples in the LCD. Over the long term, this constant "stress" on the LCD can lead to problems. Overall, not a good design or construction materials for a 2-in-1 where it's expected and encouraged to be routinely rotated about. On the plus side, hinges were tight and appeared sturdy.GENERAL BUILD QUALITYThe laptop body itself is all plastic. I'm OK with that. What's not OK is that it just doesn't feel solid. There's too much flex when you pick it up. Overall I like the understated design but while it looks nice, it just feels cheap. There's something else I observed that while not impacting the function of the laptop, reflects poor workmanship and design. There's a clear plastic adhesive sheet applied to the bottom of the laptop. My best guess is that it's there to protect the bottom from scuffs and scratches. However, it's obvious that the sheet was designed and cut for a smaller sized laptop as the cutout for screws and rubber feet don't align. In fact, it completely covers the center screw on the bottom. This means if you ever want to open up the laptop, you'll need to cut/rip through the protective plastic to remove the screw. If you look close, you can see that a cut out exists for the center screw but it's off by a couple of inches. Overall, just very shoddy and unprofessional.TOUCHPAD & KEYBOARDI don't pay much attention to touchpads. I prefer to use a wireless mouse. However, this touchpad is just bad. In fact it performs on par with the one on my Latitude D620 from 2007. In other words - not very well - despite playing around with numerous settings in Windows. Gestures worked for the most part. Overall, the touchpad feels cheap and is OK in a pinch, but would be a chore to use full time. It also has a painted finish and I wonder how well the finish will hold up over time. There were no major drawbacks to the keyboard. This laptop has half-height keys for "Page Up" and "Page Down". Personally, I prefer full height.WIRELESS CONNECTIVITYI had no issues with wireless connectivity. It connected to my network with no problem and stayed connected. I streamed hours of video and downloaded many GBs of files without issue. I tried several versions of the Intel PROSet/Wireless 3165 WiFi Driver (17.15.05, 18.12.0.3, and 18.32.05). All worked flawlessly.AUDIO ISSUE - PROBABLY SPECIFIC TO MY LAPTOPI believe my laptop had an audio hardware issue. The audio worked correctly when the laptop was powered on from a complete shutdown. But, if you did a "Restart" no audio could be heard from either the laptop speakers or headset jack. The audio came back if you shutdown and then powered back on.The audio issue was the same regardless of the audio driver (i.e, Microsoft Generic or various versions of the Conexant Audio Driver). As an experiment, I installed Windows 8.1 and saw the exact same audio issue so it wasn't unique to Windows 10.SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS - LOTS OF CHOICESI always test out the system recovery options on new computers. In this case, I tried things three different ways:1. I recovered with an ISO download from the Dell support site.2. I recovered with from a recovery USB flash drive I made in Windows 10.3. I installed Windows 10 from scratch using an ISO download from Microsoft (search Google for "microsoft windows 10 iso download") and manually installed the necessary drivers from the Dell support site. They all worked fine but options 1 & 2 took hours. The Dell ISO (downloaded from the Dell support site) install created two desktop shortcuts for the "Korea Media Player Center" and the "Korea Messenger Center". These are apparently required by the Korea government so this tells me that Dell is using a global image for recovery rather than one tailored to a geographic region. It confused me at first because I thought perhaps I incorrectly selected options during recovery.Recovery from the USB device I made left me with two "Unknown" devices in device manager. One went away when I installed the "Intel PROSet/Wireless 3165 Bluetooth Application". The other went away when I reinstalled the "Intel Serial IO Driver. " I say reinstalled because the Device Manager already showed the driver installed. Apparently Windows 10 automatically installs the correct driver for just some of the Serial IO devices. In both cases the recovery took 3+ hours to complete with little intervention from me.By far, the easiest and fastest recovery route was to install Windows 10 from scratch using the ISO download from Microsoft. The entire process from start to finish was about 1 hour which included installing the drivers from the Dell support site.INSTALLATION ISSUES WITH DELL DRIVERS DOWNLOADED FROM DELLAnyone downloading driver files from the Dell support site for this laptop should know that as of (4/19/2016) there is a problem with the files. They do not auto-extract (which they should) during the installation process and generate an error. If you read the installation log, you'll see that it failed to find the setup.exe file. That's because the program never extracts them to the expected location (c:\ProgramData\Dell\) or any location at all for that matter. There's also an option to just Extract the files. This doesn't work either despite the fact that the programs tells you it was successful. All the program did was create an empty folder at the expected location (c:\ProgramData\Dell\). NOTE: The folder c:\ProgramData is hidden. In order to see it within File Explorer you need to check "Hidden items" under "View".I was able to use them by extracting the needed files from the Dell downloads by using a free software program called 7-ZIP. I downloaded the files from Dell on to a USB flash drive. I then used 7-ZIP to extract their contents to the same directory on the USB flash drive. I then installed directly from the USB drive (run the setup.exe file).ONE MORE THINGThis is not unique to Dell but I prefer laptops that have status lights for things like charging, sleep, or hard drive activity. This laptop has an extremely tiny Power/Battery status light that's not readily visible or apparent. There are no visual cues that the system is asleep or powered down. Similarly, there are no visual cues for hard drive activity.FINAL THOUGHTI really can't recommend this laptop, notwithstanding the audio problem I experienced. I just don't think its design and build quality are durable enough for a 2-in-1. Seeing ripples in the LCD whenever you need to adjust the screen position is simply unacceptable. It didn't matter how gingerly you made the adjustment - rippling occurred. Add to that the flex present in the main body and I see this laptop developing issues due to design and material choices over the long term.I 'll take a closer look at the Dell Special Edition of this laptop which I believe has an aluminum body. I'd specifically sought out this version though, because I find the diamond cut (i.e, chamfered) edges to be uncomfortable on the wrists and prone to nicks and scratching from watchbands and the like.

Ordered this laptop for my mom who's Asus just recently bit the dust. Her requirements were pretty simple - not too big, not too heavy, touchscreen, fast enough to browse the web and run office. This does that - and has a build quality that exceeded my expectations. Unlike some of the other reviewers we had 0 issues with wifi out of the box, but to be fair one of the first two windows updates it received was for the intel wifi driver.

The tent/foldover/tablet feature is great, The lower resolution (1280x720) is perfect for people that may wear glasses anyways - there's no reason to drop a 1920x1080 13" display on someone that can't see all the letters anyways.

I do plan on adding more RAM as the 4GB is a little anemic, and most likely replacing the harddrive with an SSD but both of these are based on my preferences, the actual user of the laptop commented on how responsive it was, so take it as a comparison of an IT guy vs. mom's opinion there.

I'm happy enough with the platform that I'm looking at getting the higher resolution model with an i7 for myself as my next laptop, which says a lot.

In general, I'm pretty pleased with my purchase of the Dell Inspiron i7359-2435SLV. Despite not having a metal casing, the laptop still feels and looks really sturdy. I like how the keyboard handles and the display and touchscreen responsiveness are very nice as well. The size is perfect for me - I had a 15.5" laptop previous to this, and felt like it was to big and bulky for what I needed.

As far as criticism goes, I'm not thrilled by the boot-up time for this device, but that is more than likely due to the fact that I purchased the 500gb Hard Disk Drive model as opposed to one with an SSD memory. I didn't learn until after I bought this that laptops with SSD memories boot up much faster that those with HDDs. The other thing is, I'm a bit underwhelmed by with the touchpad on this. My last laptop had actual mouse buttons, as opposed to this one where they are built into the bottom of the touchpad.

Finally, I knew to watch out for this because of previous reviews, and found that I needed to call Dell Tech Support to walk me through reinstalling a few drivers onto the system. My audio wasn't working, but with their help, the problem was easily fixed. I've heard that some people have had issues with their Wifi drivers, and had to do something similar. I had no issues with my Wifi, thankfully.

All in all, I think I made a good choice for the money. If I'd done a little bit more research before hand, I think I may have spent just a little bit more money to get a laptop with a 250gb SSD rather than the 500gb HDD. I can get a little impatient, and hate waiting terribly long for my computer to start up before I get started with whatever I'm doing. Ah well...next time, i s'pose

Disclaimer: I immediately installed an SSD and a clean copy of windows when I got this.

This is a nice device. it's fast and feels like it will last a long time. I was worried about the glossy screen at first, but it's not bad actually.
Screen quality is good, and speakers sound surprisingly good.
This will comfortably give you 4-5hrs of web-surfing or 7-9hrs of youtube. Trying to kill the battery running everything at 100% took ~2hr 15min.

The only downside are the corners of the screen when using it for touch. Sometimes it takes some effort to get it to register.

I ordered this as my new work computer. I used it for 2 days for very light work (email checking, google drive documents, etc.) I haven't downloaded anything to it or added any programming yet. I opened my laptop at work and all of the sudden it wouldn't connect to the Internet. Then it started giving me a blue error screen and continually restarting itself. It ended up giving me error codes saying the memory was full and could not be corrected, and that new hardware must be received. I literally have barely used this laptop, and really need it for work.

I called Dell support and they guided me through a diagnostic, to which they found the same information as my original error messages. They then said the laptop was still registered to the seller, and they needed to update it to my information before they finished helping me, and that it would take an hour and then they would call me back. They called back 3 hours later, but I missed the call. They emailed me and said to email them back with what 2-hour window I wanted them to call back, which I said right then and for the next 2 hours. I get another email that says they can't call during my requested time, what time would I like TOMORROW.

So all in all, not super happy with this purchase, although I haven't barely used it yet. Not sure if this is Dell's fault or Amazon's fault, but it's looking like I'm not going to be able to use this laptop for a while as they will still need to send me replacement hardware (that hopefully I'm able to install myself?) Ridiculous for a brand new laptop.

Love this computer, it replaced my old HP which I will never purchase HP again. Love windows ten and I have had no problems. Some cons: the key board needs a cover when flipping the computer into tablet mode but not a big problem except when placing on a counter top, the camera only takes pictures in computer mode and it takes them facing the typist, it gets a little heated when sitting on my lap, sometimes the touch pad is sticky. Takes a few taps but only sometimes. Overall, I love this Dell. I think I will be replacing my husbands 12 year old Dell with this one.
