Adventures Await When You Overcome Fear

This is the story of a normal family of five living a very unusual life. The Medearis family has faced Middle Eastern prisons, death threats, being kicked out of a country two times, and war. It hasn't always been easy, but in the midst of it all, the invitation of Jesus to follow and not be afraid has won the day.

But this is more than just their story. It's also a guide to help you step out in bold faith. Whether the call of Jesus for you means international intrigue, giving up all you have for the poor, or simply being the suburban neighbor you were always meant to be, it's time to begin your own adventure! To live a life where fear takes a backseat and God takes the wheel. In the end, of course, there are no promises of an easy life or a path free of troubles. But enormous blessings await those who walk in faith.

It's time to go where Jesus is calling and do what God is doing. Don't put off the adventure he's been saving just for you.

"Reading
Adventures in Saying Yes is so much fun you don't realize at first how profound it is. . . . In an era when people, races, religions, and countries are being torn apart by fear, this call to move past fear and follow Jesus into caring connections is essential reading."--Lynne Hybels, Advocate for Global Engagement, Willow Creek Community Church

"You'll cry. You'll laugh. You'll shake your head in disbelief. But most of all, you'll never be the same after this book. It will inspire and ignite you to go beyond planning and start saying yes to Jesus' nonstop invitations to join him in what he's already up to in the world."--Leonard Sweet, bestselling author, professor (Drew University, George Fox University, Tabor College), and chief contributor to sermons.com

"We are all looking for ways to be inspired and challenged in our life with Jesus. Carl's stories don't just entertain you. They call you to live courageously in the face of your fears."--Jay Pathak, Senior Pastor, Mile High Vineyard Church, and coauthor of
The Art of Neighboring

"Carl Medearis gives us a rare look into the utterly vulnerable, harrowing, uplifting, and often witty adventures of one who has dared to say yes in the face of fear for the sake of the good news. What's most amazing about this book is that it all actually happened. . . . Brilliant. Simply brilliant."--Ted Dekker, New York Times bestselling author

"The gospel of Jesus is not about security and segregation. . . .
Adventures in Saying Yes is a compelling call to embody the risky faith and radical hospitality of Jesus!"--Brian Zahnd, Pastor of Word, Life Church (St. Joseph, MO), and author of A Farewell to Mars

"This book will press you toward a closer walk, a deeper love, and an undaunted life of following Jesus. Carl disarms the reader with his warm and engaging style, yet delivers deep biblical truth about what it means to be a fearless disciple. As a Lebanese immigrant to the States, I can promise you that Carl clearly understands the culture and made me yearn for home. I was deeply moved by what God will do through us when we simply say yes."--Lina AbuJamra, MD, pediatric ER doctor and author of Stripped

"Even if you don't like biographical books by missionaries, you are going to love this one. It's so much more than the story of a family learning how to live gracefully among Muslims. This is a text on overcoming fear, learning how to trust strangers, and allowing God to guide all you do."--Tony Campolo, PhD, Eastern University

"Written with real-life integrity and humor, this story explodes with invitations--to risk, to trust, to imagine, to open, to more . . ."--Wm. Paul Young
, author of The Shack

About the Author

Thirty years of living in and traveling to the Middle East have given Carl Medearis (www.carlmedearis.com) a true insider's view of the region, making him one of a handful of American expert voices in the field of Arab-American and Muslim-Christian relations.

Carl serves as a catalyst for a number of current movements in the Middle East that come together around the life and teaching of Jesus of Nazareth in order to promote peacemaking, as well as cultural, political, and religious dialogue leading toward understanding and reconciliation. He is the author of the acclaimed books on these issues:
Muslims, Christians, and Jesus as well as Tea with Hezbollah, and most recently, Speaking of Jesus: the Art of Not-Evangelism.

Carl, his wife, Chris, and their three kids lived in Beirut, Lebanon, for 12 years. Through their unique and strategic approach around the Arab world, they encouraged university students, business professionals, and political leaders to live their lives by the principles and teachings of Jesus in order to change their societies and nations.

Today Carl spends much of his time working with leaders both in the Arab world and in the West with the hope of seeing the Middle East and the West experience full and fruitful relationships through Jesus of Nazareth. He is also the director of The Middle East Studies Program at William Jessup University.

Carl leads a grass-roots movement in America to reconnect with Jesus called "Simply Jesus," anchored in a yearly conference. Speakers include N. T. Wright, Philip Yancey, and Tony Campolo. Learn more at the website www.SimplyJesusGathering.com.

Carl has spoken several times at Harvard, been the Chairman of an Arab League meeting (in Baghdad), preached in mosques, churches, and universities across the Western world, and most of all he's loved Jesus, his wife, and his three kids.

Carl looks at the world through a different lens; one that just not accept things as they are or seem to be. I'm trying to learn to be more effect at this myself and reading his books has helped me with this. I enjoyed the laid back style, the lessons in dealing with fear and the courage and dedication to speaking about Jesus that not only Carl has, but Chris and their children (have grown to) have as well. What a great story about a great family serving a GREAT God. Thanks for keeping it real, Carl.

I've known Carl and Chris and their kids for many years and it was really fun to read this book about their adventures in saying YES to God. This is a very personal book with a lot of vulnerability by Carl and reading it felt like sitting in a coffee shop, relaxing and having a conversation with Carl about the challenges and rewards of living a life of faith. You will come away from this book both challenged and encouraged to move forward in your faith journey.

Carl Medearis is a great and inspirational story teller! I could hardly put Adventures in Saying Yes down as it had me crying, laughing out loud and ready to hop on a plane to Lebanon. This book is full of surprises as Carl tells of the crazy things his family has faced, good and scary. Overall, I feel like I can face my fears and say yes to Jesus even more!

I was actually dancing around my living room after I read this book!!! I felt like I did when I first met Jesus a gazillion years ago!!! A refreshingly honest, funny and heartfelt story of this family's life in the Middle East sharing Jesus. Say Yes to reading Carl's story and you will be saying No to all those crazy fears that hold you back and maybe Yes to dancing for joy around your living room!!.

A must read! Carl Medearis writes as if he were sitting at the table with you chatting it up. I blazed through this book (laughing out loud a few times), and his Speaking of Jesus book, each in one day. Wow! If you want encouragement on how to live for Jesus without 'religion and christianity' getting in the way, read this book! He is the real deal. I'm determined to meet him soon.

In their new book, Carl and Chris Medearis, along with their three children, share their love for Jesus, for people and for an adventure that Jesus seems to be inviting everyone to join. I found myself laughing out loud, crying and reflecting deeply upon my own life as I turned each page. If you only read a few books this year, make sure this is one of them.

A man who listens to the voice of God is used to change relations between Muslims and Christians. Very encouraging read with many lessons about non-Godly characterizations and paradigm shifts. Read the book and you may just view the world differently and step out in faith with the Holy Spirit.

Carl shares with us not only his wonderful and powerful stories of what happens when he has said Yes to Jesus but also his failures, fears and insecurities. In the book he and his family walk with us by showing what can happen when we overcome our fears, invite Jesus to set us free, and go on an adventure with Him.

The vulnerability combined with such amazing stories are an inspiring mix and encourage us all, no matter how 'qualified' to go and be more like Jesus.

A great read!

If you have read any of Carl's other books you may recognise some of the stories. But this book goes behind the stories and examines the decision to follow Jesus into each situation. Read it, be challenged, live your own adventure... I've read it was challenged, now just need to have the adventure!
