  • The most powerful sail in our lineup, the “Cruiser” is intended for larger, heavier boats that need and can handle more power from the wind. At a bit over 1.5 m² the WindPaddle “Cruiser” has the power to pull along heavier boats loaded with gear or people.
  • The "Cruiser" sail also works for heavy SOTs and fishing kayaks. You can always tilt the sail forward and "spill" the wind to depower the sail. This sail retains its shape in high winds and doesn’t turn a kayak or canoe into a complex, heavy sailing craft.
  • Target boat – Kayaks, Canoes, Inflatables, Tandems and Expedition boats 14’ – 18’ Target wind range – 5 – 30 knots (2-7 BFT) Target paddler – intermediate to expert Off-wind sailing angle - +180 degrees
  • Tech corner: Cruiser, Deployed diameter - 56" (142.24 cm.) Coiled/folded diameter - 20" (50 cm.), Sail area - 17.1 sq. ft. (1.589 m²), Weight - 22 oz. (0.6237 kg.) , Wind Range - 4-31 knots of wind. (2-6 BFT)
  • All WindPaddle sails launch and fly from the on-deck position. It can be set up for instant self-launching either before sailing or while out on the water so there's no need to return to shore to launch your sail!

Product Description

All WindPaddle sails connect to your existing desk hardware and are made with durability in mind. Made from rip-stop nylon sailcloth. The same material big sailing boat spinnakers are constructed of. The clear window allows for good visibility. Seams are triple-stitched and the perimeter batten is made of a virtually unbreakable composite material. Out in big winds on a large body of rough water is not where you want your equipment to fail. These sails will be pulling hard long after you are ready to head into shore. We stand behind our sails with the statement, "IF you can figure out a way to break it, we'll fix it for free."

I seldom write a review on a product I haven’t used for a while. However after taking the Wind Paddle sail out for a test run I had to comment. . While I’ve been on the water most of my life I’ve been a powerboat (large & small)/paddle guy & never learned to sail.
I practiced folding it in the living room about 5 or 6 times then sat in the kayak in the garage and folded it another 3 or 4 times. As I believe another reviewer said I found it was easier while sitting in the kayak. It attaches to the kayak perfectly. I tested it on my Native ultimate 14.5 and took it out on the reservoir (didn’t want to deal with tides in the harbor while learning). The wind was SW about 5 to 10 mph. I paddled away from the landing popped open the wind paddle and took off, literally. I can see it may have been easier to steer with a rudder but I quickly mastered steering by slightly dipping/dragging the paddle on the side I needed to turn the boat. After a little practice and I felt like a pro. I made three runs about a mile each by the second run I felt I had mastered catching the wind and steering.
A word of caution, it will take you out farther and faster than you may realize and you have to paddle back against the wind so pay attention. I went out with the wind and fished a little along the banks on the way back.
I took it out again this morning but there was little to no wind. I did get the sail to fill the sail a couple of times in about 2 kts of wind but it was slow going but still beats paddling. Flat water most of the morning.
This sail is fun and easy to use. My biggest concern, folding the sail on the water was not even an issue, very easy to handle. Even with limited practice I think the wind paddle is well worth the money. It was fun and adds a whole new dimension to kayaking. Can’t imagine how great it will be like as I get more experience using the sail.

Only got to try a few times; it is very difficult to paddle and sail at the same time; by that I mean to steer and control the sail. In the future I may use my big boat with a rudder and I can just concentrate on sailing. I think this will be a good investment and there will be a time I can sail for miles. Pretty fun when you do get going!!!

I bought this to try on a 15' Feathercraft Big Kahuna Kayak. Turns out, it was much more a hand full than I had expected and very cumbersome when the wind was uncooperative.

I got socked in the nose first time I released it from the deck and found it nearly impossible to fold back up properly.

The wind was terribly lacking when needed the day of testing, but probably would be my sail of choice when both our kayaks are strapped together for sailing.

As it is, I am returning this and keeping the next size smaller for ease of use and safety reasons.

Watch the You Tube videos and call the manufacturer if you too feel this would be a safer product with a stow bag included, as it was originally.

We absolutely love it. It is fantastic on lakes....often we have to paddle only one way. The speed varies, depending on a wind. We have a tandem kayak, so one person can devote the hands to the sail. ( Some type of gloves is recommended) Yes it can be mounted to brackets on kayak's sides but often the wind is not steady enough and most of the time some turning of sail is needed.
It is also a nice topic of conversation with other kayakers

We bought this sail for our canoe, and it is a blast. Only really works running down wind, which is probably a function of the canoe design. Tricky to fold up, takes some practice

FUN Practice folding like the directions say. First in your living room, then sit in the kayak on dry land and practice more.
On the water it's a blast with a 10mph wind. I should've gotten the next size smaller, but this one hasn't pulled me over yet!
Only bad thing, you need to paddle upwind to go down wind. Go downwind first and you'll be aqmazed how far you have to paddle back:(
