I have been picking up a few of each of the new body style Barbies that Mattel has started bringing out in 2016. I believe that this is one of the first ones they came out with. I want to have a small store of them ready for when my grand daughter is ready to play Barbie with me. I'm happy that her Barbie collection will sport petite, tall, regular and curvy Barbies which will be more like the people she knows that just the traditional Barbie.Curvy Barbie definitely has a more ample body style than other Barbies. Curvy Barbie is a little larger in scale compared to regular Barbies but proportioned extremely well within her own size and shape.Everything about this doll is a little larger (except for her height as she is the same height as a regular Barbie. Her arms are a little thicker, her thighs a little more so. Her hips and body are larger in scale, too. Her feet, calves, ankles are too. Her hands are about the same size as regular Barbie. Most of the Curvy Barbies that I have seen have a closed mouth mold but this one is unusual with its bright open-mouth smile. She has hip length hair that is blue on the top layer and black underneath. Her hair is in a simple comb back style with a center part. Her hair is soft and even a little flyaway with no stiffening product in it. She has fair skin, green eyes, and medium pink lips with no nail polish. She has very natural style make-up and has a heavy medium taupe eyebrow with painted on lashes. Both of her arms are fairly straight with her hands turned out slightly with palms down. Her fingers are mostly separated except the third and fourth finger of each hand are fused. Her legs do not bent except at the hips and they seem to be hollow rather than the solid vinyl of older dolls. Her feet are arched for heels rather than the new flat style foot.Barbie is wearing a two piece outfit in navy with pink stitch detail and both pieces close with hook and loop at the back. The top is a sleeveless blouse with sheer pink netting at top of the bodice. The body of the top is stretch navy with white and navy stripes at the front. The lower part of the blouse is navy patent leather in a peplum style with a pink ribbon sewn on belt. The skirt is navy twill material. Barbie wears black plastic platform shoes and sports a wear of purple translucent sunglasses. There are now versions of the new body style Barbies that have additional outfits but I am hoping that Mattel will come out with outfits separately that are geared specifically for the new body types.

I just had to order this doll when I saw her. My body is pretty much identical to hers. And I'm comfortable with that. Sometimes, you can't control what your body looks like. Which makes us each unique in our own way. When I took a closer look at this doll, I noticed that her eyes are green and she has natural brown hair (according to her eyebrows). Which is what I look like. Curvy, with brown hair and green eyes. I think it's awesome what Mattel is doing; making barbies that have all sorts of body differences. Skin color and ethnicity have been covered by Mattel awhile ago (Christy has always been my favorite!!!!) but to add things such as petite, tall, curvy, etc. is absolutely amazing. Very happy with my purchase. Very happy with the improvement that Mattel has made over the years.

My daughter has one other “curvy” barbie. I got her this one because she came to me and said her curvy Barbie needs regular size friends to play with (her other Barbies are the traditional size), and she requested a Lammily. Which I ordered, but since that's going to be her Easter present, I ordered her this one because I wanted her to have something sooner. Plus, I think it's a good thing to have doll diversity.

This is actually a product that I hope Mattel continues, despite the fact that there are things I think could be a little bit better, and things I would like to see taken a step further. It's really easy to say about something “it's just a doll,” or “it's just a movie,” so the body image portrayed doesn't matter. But as a large-framed woman who spent most of her youth being pushed, flat out told, and messaged by products and shows that her healthful and eventually underweight size was still too big, I have to respectfully disagree. Not everyone is capable because of their frame size of reaching super skinny sizes even when considerably underweight, and many people don't know that and so they end up in some pretty dark places trying to become something their body's not meant to be. They trust the messaging around them, and they are in many cases unaware of the differences between what is considered medically healthy and what society has deemed beautiful, because they are not necessarily the same depending on a person's body type...but unfortunately, they've kind of become linked as being one and the same right now despite that.

So as a woman who started a journey of recovery over 20 years ago, I want Mattel to know why this product matters, and why diversity in doll sizing matters. Currently, I'm a size 8, at the bottom of my healthy weight range, and underneath the clothes I wear, I've got a fair bit of rib showing with all that muscle I'm sporting these days. But fully clothed, I'm aware of how some people see my size because I've been hearing it all my life, and when I was growing up, super skinny was the only choice I had when it came to dolls. Because my sweet daughter inherited my frame size, it is important to me and matters to me as a consumer that she has options that reflect what she's going to be looking like at a healthy weight for her as a grown woman. And I want her to be healthy. I don't want her to walk some of the paths I've been on, so we talk about these issues often.

And curvy Barbie does I think look like what is an appropriate size for a large framed woman. I would still like to see a wider range in sizes on dolls. And I would like to see dolls that have a little less makeup being available to young girls, which is one of the reasons I also support Lammily.

For this doll in particular, I think it would be really nice if her knee joints were poseable like traditional Barbies. I also think it's a problem the way they put the tag ties through the head to hold them into the packaging. It's difficult to get them out without nicking out some of the hair. I ended up pulling the last one out with my teeth. A little bit of the hair on this was coming out when it arrived, but not much.

When I asked my daughter what she liked most about it, she said she liked the hair. She said it's just what she wants to do to her hair someday, just with a different color streaks. Good to know ;) Also, she said she liked that they made her look pretty without looking skinny. I like that too. She's very pleased with it, and has her two dolls right now chatting it up, albeit with some encouragement from me to make sure all of her different size dolls get to play together so that nobody is excluded. It's a more beautiful world for everybody involved when nobody is made to feel bad for being born a different size.

When I heard Mattel was releasing petite, tall, and curvy Barbies I was so happy. The variety of ethnicities makes me happy as well. It's very important as a parent that my daughter learns that woman and men can be beautiful as different sizes and colors and styles.
When this particular Barbie came in the mail I was excited because I happen to have blue hair and I have curves so this reminded my daughter of me which was such a beautiful moment. Her hair is so soft. I was not expecting it to be as soft as it is. The sunglasses are such a cool accessorie as well. She's just a beautiful Barbie.
For this price, she's worth it. A beautiful doll that helps breaks the mold of the normal Barbie shape, size, color, and style.

still pretty!. This Curvy Barbie does not have bendy knees.
Her arms and legs are hard plastic. But I don't mind the
