My mother used to say that she’d rather give birth than visit the dentist. I feel the same way when trying to write about myself. It’s much easier to write about Cara and Edna than Sheila.

When asked to describe myself, I always say the same thing. I’m your basic Irish American woman. If pushed, I follow up with the fact that I have one son that came through me, two kids that came to me, five grandkids from them. Two more children have bestowed me with the title of Gam Gam and Gammy, even if it isn’t technically true. I’m all about kids.

I published Hot Tea on a lark. Somewhere down the road, I wanted to be able to remind my kids and grandkids that I was once cool; I’d even written a book. Several months after publishing, I received an email. A woman explained she and her sister were very much like Cara and Teagan. She said she’d laughed her way through chemo and wanted to know when the next book would be out. She said she had more medical issues and needed a laugh. I cried. A lot. Then I started typing.

I’m not one of those writers that bleed over words or have to write in order to breathe. To be brutally honest, I don’t consider myself a writer at all. I write down stories. Some are based in my reality (I am one of eight kids born to Irish American parents, and although Cara’s mom is not my mother, they share a great deal of wisdom). Most of the stories in my books are straight from my imagination spurred by something I’ve witnessed or read. For example, I saw an article about women that were raped only to have their attacker come back later to sue for child support. I was incensed. I thought more people needed to be aware of the possibility.

Hot Tea was more than two dozen books ago. Since then, things like editors and proofreaders, cover designers and beta readers have entered the process, but the love of storytelling is still what drives me.

It must be the Irish in me.

I have, after all, kissed the Blarney Stone more than once.

Its hard for me to find a book I can read through to the end... I usually start and never finish... not with this series however! Finished the first in just a day and bought the other 3 that were available and after a week I was through them all! You did such a wonderful job with the story and characters and giving just enough info to keep me involved and wondering!! I am anxiously awaiting peppermint tea!! Dont keep us waiting too long please :) congratulations on such a wonderful series Sheila!

This series is a fun read even if the format is a bit frustrating. It's more like three chapters (so far) than three books - the books don't conclude, they just end at a totally random place in the story and then the next installment begins (not so frustrating when the next installment was available but now that I'm waiting for the fourth it's more than a tad annoying).
Anyway, the characters can be fun, the family dynamics are recognisable to anyone who's had Irish friends and the mystery backstory weaves in and out for a bit of interest. A good light read.

As enjoyable as it was, this book left me feeling as if I have been somewhat cheated of something. I think it's because nothing was resolved. Issues were raised and left unresolved to bait then reader into buying the next book. Which I did and then because things were still not resolved, I got the third. And then I quit because I felt like I was being strung along. The heroine, Cara, was quirky enough to keep me interested in her.

I daresay if you are a fan of Stephanie Plum, you'd really like this. I kinda object to the Tea Series for the same reasons I object to the Stephanie Plum books. Stephanie has not grown into an adult woman. Her character has not grown and matured since the first book.

I feel like that is what is the case with Cara O'Flynn. I read three books and learned nothing new about her in the next two. Her romance began too quickly and her lover has no real identity except that he a snappy dresser, liked to cuddle on the couch in shorts and nothing else while Cara wears one or the other of her glamorous lingerie sets of nightgowns and peignoirs as they watch movies.

No one really has much of a personality. They are all rather one-dimensional. I think I kept reading because I thought something was going to happen. It never does. In book 2 Cara inherits a locked trunk from her grandmother's best friend and by the end of book 3 she hadn't even opened it.

In book 1 she decides she is going to solve a mystery and win the $10,000.00 reward. Although the mystery is mentioned, she doesn't actually work to solve it.

Something else that bothered me is that at around 175 pages or so each, I can't call any of the volumes a novel/ Each volume ends in the middle of things so if one's curiosity is sufficiently aroused, one will keep buying additional stories in the series. Someone is stringing the buying public along and I don't care to be manipulated.

Reader be warned: books must be read in order.

This is a great lighthearted romp with fun characters. The novels in the series have not resolved the mystery yet, however we are promised a great wrap up in number 4. The ongoing story doesn't bother me though. I like the characters and the writing style and just enjoy going along for the ride. It is not war and peace folks, just jump in and enjoy.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a delightful read and I couldn't wait to read the other books in the series. I did not want a heavy and dire mystery with lots of blood and death. And this one was exactly what I was looking for. I enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the way Sheila builds from one book to the next. My only complaint is that the books seem rather short--more like short stories. They definitely left me wanting more. Can't wait for the next book to arrive.

I like the books and have enjoyed reading the series. (I have actually read up to book 4). The characters are fun and the tone is ok. But there are may times the plot line is confused and things that are supposed to happen doesn't. There are way too many subplots going on at the same time and very little is resolved. I hope the purpose is to get you to keep buying the series but because not much is resolved I am a little bored by the additional sub-plots and then references to other sub-plots. I am waiting for a while to buy any additional books in the series, and putting my money toward much better edited books.

This is my second go round on all the Tea books. I'm reading the Girl stories so I was re-reading the series to keep me fresh. Cara and Reagan are hilarious along with the family and Cara's ability to get herself in trouble is unbelievable. A good read.

This series is different from other book series. You should start with the first one. Even though the first couple of chapters review a bit what happened in the previous book. But if you start with this book it's like picking up a book mid-story.
Don't expect a exciting mystery thriller. But it is very entertaining. I love how we get details even on how she cooks her food. There are three in the series now and I can't wait for the fourth one (green tea) to come out.

I couldn't put this series down, but you must read them in order. Once I'd read the first one, i bought the rest of the series and read them back to back. Excellent, funny, crazy!. I need more!

Second book in the ''Tea series''. This book begins right where ''Hot tea'' left off. Suggest these books are read in order as could be a little confusing as the first one establish's the family and the relationships vital to enjoy further books in the series.
Centred around two sisters Cara and Teagan and their strong relationships with their Irish family. Both sisters seem to have found the man of their dreams but have to break the news to their very traditional Irish mother.
The two sisters find themselves drawn in to the middle of a serial murder investigation and worse still, Cara may have come to the attention of the murderer.
Enjoyed this one more than the first one (as now know the characters involved)and am looking forward to continue the story in the next one''Sweet tea'' already kindled in ready to read.
