The product is a part of my class 7 & is giving me the extra help I need to keep my 4.0 GPA.
It is for beginners, & starts off with A+ type information. Once you get past that the packet tracer
information slowly brings you into the CISCO wprld.

I was required to get this book for a CISCO CCNA 1 course in my community college. The content is presented in an understandable and well structured format, I'm doing Chapter 4 at the moment and I have not had problems understanding the topics.
This does not get 5 stars since the labs are based on Win XP, if I could find instructions or a guide provided by the publisher or author to do them Win7 I would give it 5 starts.

The book is totally outdated. The tasks are based in Windows XP,but technology has left XP by the wayside. This is supposed to be a fundamentals book, but you need to know how to navigate your Operating System somewhat in order to complete the tasks in the book before you read the book.

This book is clear, and easy to understand. It comes with a CD which includes several activities and Packet Tracer on-hands training.
Highly recommended!

More experienced individuals might find this book on the basic side of things, but it's great for someone who wants a thorough review and explanation of network and IT basics.

If you plan on taking a Cisco class that uses this book you will find it informative, as it explains concepts covered in the online material with greater detail, without using overly complicated terms or jargon.

Individuals that have already been introduced to Cisco Networking concepts might find the next book in the series more beneficial as it covers more technical aspects: (Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP, CCNA Discovery Learning Guide )

Needed this book for reference to my future events. Just needed the cd with it.

This product is just another Cisco product. It is convoluted and intentionally so. It is designed to feed the Cisco machine more money at your expense. Unless you are required to have this for a class, I would never recommend it's purchase. Even if you were to take a Cisco certification (which are also guaranteed to be more complex than the concepts actually are and at times the very courses designed by Cisco to train you for these are 100% incorrect about a thing or two and sadly this may even carry on to the certification.)

I highly recommend if you have a choice never even studying for Cisco CCNA,CCNE, or Cisco-whatever even from Cisco's own books. You might think I am not being serious but I have read hundreds and hundreds of pages of IT books and had hundreds of hours in IT work yet Cisco still holds a special hatred in my heart for being designed to make you fail. The questions are designed to make you fail to get 100%, the answers are designed for you to fail (or are even factually incorrect when it comes to Cisco courses!) I suspect the only thing keeping masses of people in Cisco-based courses is almost always a large amount of people or other-credit work keeping college grades up.

Back to the product; as far as the product I literally would never read it even in class courses with it. It was more of an expensive paperweight each and every semester it was required, and one could learn much faster using online materials generally provided with the course.

If you have a choice, go CompTIA A+, then N+, then S+, not Cisco. I recommend Mike Meyers other books through McGraw Hill.

I ONLY USED IT FOR ONE CLASS BUT THERE IS A WEALTH OF IN FORMATION HERE FOR THE BEGINNER. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR ALL WHO ARE LOOKING INTO COMPUTERS AS A PROFESSION. I AM AN OLD TIMER AND I HAVE LEARNED MUCH FROM THIS TEXT.
