Some mention that it's an excellent, cost-effective lav mic, and a great place to start, while others say that the build quality is not so much, the microphone doesn't seem sturdy, and the cables and components all feel cheap to the touch. Customers have mixed opinions about the sound quality of the sound and recording equipment. Some mention that the sound was almost perfect, with no excess hiss, while others say that it was horrible scratchy low volume sound. The ATR-3350 seems well made for general purpose use around the house/studio and beyond with reasonable care. Best of all, it sounds great. Using the lapel clip to place the mike on my collar, the audio comes through loud, clear and intellegible. It picks up just my voice, and no other peripheral sounds in the room. Post-production audio editing should be minimal, if at all.
The Kodak PlayTouch has a bad reputation when using external mics, most people report extremely low volume and inadequate levels even when the camera recording level is topped out. My initial tests show acceptable results with the ATR-3350, though you still have to top out the camera recording level. The next test will be using it with my higher-end Canon Vixia camcorder, I'm sure it will work even better there.
For people complaining about the cord length or the battery compartment, stop it. The cord needs to be long, I'm normally about six feet (or more) away from my camera, this cord is long enough to be routed up inside your pants and shirt to be unobtrusive on camera. Add the length running across the floor and up the tripod, it's just about perfect. If you need it shorter, use a tiewrap or velcro wrap. The battery compartment is fine too, I have big fingers and had no trouble installing the LR44 battery inside. Taking it out is just as easy, you just pop it out using a small nail file or penknife.
All in all I'm pleased with this mic for the ridiculously low price I paid. I think you will be too, give it a try.
1) The battery included works but causes a strange low hissing sound in your audio. It is not hard to clean up in post, but it is annoying. I did a quick search and read other people complaining about the same issue. It goes away once you replace the battery. I popped in a new bat and the sound is clear and clean.
2) There is no battery indicator at all. You will have no idea how much juice is left when you go to use it. This is a bit frustrating to me as I record 1.5-2 hour lectures. I would not want this to die 1/2 way though because I did not know the battery was low on juice. A small LED indicator would have been nice.
3) The foam windscreen is worthless. Well, not worthless as it does work, but it will not stay on. It fell off twice on during my first use and I lost it on my second use.
4) This is clearly listed in the description so it is hard to complain about it, but take note that the cable length is 20 feet. This is good if you are going to plug into a camera and sit as you will have plenty of space between you and the camera. But I walk around and do not want to be tethered to a camera, so I plug my mic into a Tascam DR-05 to record audio. This requires me to stuff 20' feet of cabling into my pocket. It would have been nice if the cabling after the on/off switch was optional.
THE ONLY CON: Which I saw this coming, but wasn't worried about it, I've been an audio engineer for 7 years now - There's an unmistakeable hiss, static, white noise, whatever you want to call it, in your audio when recording. (then again, even my in-camera mic has a hiss. This can be EASILY removed in Post-Production using any program that does the most basic audio editing. I wouldn't let the hiss scare you away from this product, Unless you spend $100+, your most likely going to hear some kind of static and have to learn to remove it in post production, so you might as well learn ( It's very simple ). Overall, for the quality of this mic ( Brand quality, Mic quality and Recording quality), It can't be beat. I'm going to order another one for when I start doing Interviews.
for anybody wondering, I use a Canon T3i (600D) with the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, and this microphone's cord is long enough for me to do some YouTube Tutorial/Review videos with the 50mm lens and still be far away enough to have everything in the shot. The only reason I put this fact in here is because when looking for lavalier microphones, I needed to know that I could still get my shot with that lens and be able to use this mic at the distance needed, so for anybody using the popular 50mm f/1.8 lens, the 20ft. cord works great with it. I plug it straight into the camera, as I don't have any audio recording device or receiver to plug it into (yet). Overall, I don't have any complaints. Very impressed with the feel/quality, ESPECIALLY for this cheap price. RECOMMENDED!!!

Maybe 1 perk. Allow the slot to handle 3 or 4 battery so the record time is longer. Each batt lasts a few hours but if your going to a spontaneous cruise you might not have enough juice left.
