This game is proof you do not need 1080p to have a great game. The graphics could suck, but if the story is well written and thought out (like this game) it beats anything that is on a "major" system, but then this generation is spoiled when it comes to playing video games these days.
Some people think a game is good if it is in HD. Sorry but HD does not make a good game- this game has great graphics, the story is well written, the game has refined mechanics - and all without HD.
It was the story and the characters that brought me into playing the game, then gameplay - graphics takes a distant fourth.
5 star recommendation!
-another 5star review by Rapister
The combat is extremely fun and well created. On the map, you have a number of things to consider in the positioning of your characters and what skills to use, and in combat it feels fighting game-esque, with figuring out the best combos, timing, and order of attacks.
I highly recommend this game to anyone that likes strategy RPGs (tactics games) and/or people that enjoy crossover games.
deluxe version has a small wall paper, soundtrack and wallpaper
Got the deluxe version which was a happy christmas present to myself
tactical based JRPG with action is awesome and seeing the x specials is awesome
bad- Grindfest any stage will give you 1 set of foes and 2-3 turns in bring in a dozen more foes.... EVERY SINGLE STAGE!!!
limited space for weapons/armour/accessories at least 2 slots per weapon/accessory would of been nice
if underleveled enemies/bosses would be troublesome
a hard/insanity mode(on a grind fest! WTH was i thinking!!)
if you don't know some of these characters(sega i'm talking about you!!) some of the conversations will go over your head
less linear more exploratory/or put in some side missions!!!!!
little replay value 1 playthrough and done
over all a good game for those who like this type and is familiar with this type of crossover series. lets hope we do not have two wait a couple of years for the next one
-The battles werent too bad in the beginning, because they were on a smaller scale, but by the end of the game you have almost 20 some odd characters versus almost 50 enemies, and there isnt a way to kill them quickly. I found myself beating a level in a 1 1/2 to 2 hours, and a lot of it was just picking off the enemies one by one. I like qaulity over quantity, and it ruins the battle system when you have done the same attack sequence with a character set for the 60th time.
-Having too many characters you would think wouldnt be a bad thing, but with so many it becomes a headache to remember all the traits of each one. I loved having megaman and zero but when im using them every 14 minutes or so, and another team wiped out the enemies in his range, that means all i can do is move him, and thats all, hes just there for moral support i guess. What really kicks you in the face, you cant choose where they are placed in the beginning of the level, which would help if i wanted to just power level a couple of characters but instead are left with them on the opposite end of where everyone is (for example, some levels dante was in the thick of it, others he was near maybe one or 2 enemies and once they were dead, couldnt really do anything with him at that point). The devs should of gave you a way to pick which teams to take into battle, instead of working whatever they decided for you.
-I tried to pay attention to the story, but after a while (about lvl 30) i just stopped caring, this is NO character depth at all, it seems like they wrote a general script for the game and just filled the role of the speaker with random characters. Example, dante will say a line, then frank west, then hsien co, the chun li, then kosmos and thats about it. They chime in for one line then their out. Wouldnt be too bad, but like i mentioned with that many characters, it seems that they are just rotating them out of the convo just so they could say hey, i said something, remember? Also, battle stories follow a pattern.
1. Start the battle
2. Kill half the enemies on the screen.
3. More enemies show up with a new boss or 2
This happens almost every level, to the point you just know your going to get ambushed everytime. They pull the same "HA! tricked you" moment every dang level. It was fine in the beginning, but as the game drags on, lordy takes forever.
-Should also mention, with almost double if not triple the enemies on the screen, you cant skip their turns, so you literally have to watch them select their enemy, them move, then wait. For every dang enemy, even if they didnt do anything but move. It would of be REALLY nice to have a skip button to just go straight to the part where my guys can either go or just get dammaged.
I just wanted to point out all the bad things i found with the game so you know what your getting into, but the one saving grace of the game, and its a big one, is the battle system. The battles are fun, and despite what some people say about just button mashing, you really dont want to play that way. If you want to maximize your damage, and also get criticals, its crucial to time your attack so they just hit as soon as they are about to hit the ground. Its easy in theory, hard in execution, and with the battle system being that involved it kepy me engaged through most of the game, despit by the end being bored.
Overall, its a nice fan service game that overstays its welcome, the first 20 levels the game tickled me pink, but at that point it had showed me its hand and nothing really new to show me for the rest of the half.
