I find the soap books very interesting, and very easy to put together the soaps and the oils, that you want to use in the mix of the soap. My children find the books easy to use. Thank You.  Smart Soapmaking: The Simple Guide to Making Traditional Handmade Soap Quickly, Safely, and Reliably, or How to Make Luxurious Handcrafted Soaps for Family, Friends, and Yourself

This is a great OOP book that I was lucky to find. It has a lot of different soaps with great ideas for packaging. Like it and it will go into my library.

this is a nice book for anyone who wants to focus on melt-and-pour soaping...but I wanted cold-process and hot-process and this book focuses on taking already made soaps and "making them your own" - just wasn't what I was looking for. Nice directions, nice photos, but the content was lacking.

If you want to pretend to be a soap maker, it's the book for you. You can pretend to make soap by simply grating premade soap , adding stuff to it, melting it and pouring it into a mold. That's it. No REAL soapmaking. Book has stupid, false title.
Imagine buying a book on how to make chocolate, and it tells you to buy PREMADE chocolate, melt it, mold it, and pretend you made it. Complete waste of money, but at least I bought it used...(I received book quickly, so my review is on the book, not the seller...)
(FYI- Book description changed AFTER my review)

This is a good supplemental book to have once you've gotten experience with soap making.

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer about this book. I totally agree that it is definitely not a book for Soapmakers who use Hot or Cold Process Soapmaking like I orginally wanted, but it was certainly very helpfull. Her tips for making Hand-Milled Soap from store-bought soap was excellent. I currently live in the Caribbean where you can't find anything quite easy. I found a Hypo-Allergenic Soap Bar called Pure & Natural that was perfect. Matter of fact, I made one of her recipes yesterday using a PVC Mold, and it came out beautifully. As far as using Petroleum Jelly to release the Soap from the mold, it worked like a charm, just like she indicated in her book.

There are alot of recipes in this book that can be used in regular soapmaking. I also love the idea that the book also has recipes and teaches you how to make Bath & Massage Oils, Solid Massage Oils, Bath Salts & Fizzies, as well as packaging and decorating your handmade items.

Thumbs up for Marie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hand Milled Soapmaking
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 5, 2012
People, before you buy this book and leave a negative review after that please read carefully a description. This is a book about making HAND MILLED SOAP. Very clear recipes, bright pictures, good for beginners. The book has a very pleasant parts such as Decorating soaps, making bath salts, bath oils, massage oils, facial scrubs, and beautiful packaging and presentation ideas. This book is not exactly about "natural" but I bought it in very good used condition just for £2.00 and absolutely happy to have it and use all these recipes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not about making soap!
Reviewed in Canada on April 4, 2013
This book is NOT about making soap. It is about milling soap -- grating already-made soap, melting it, and then adding extra ingredients. Useless if you actually want to make soap. Not sure where the title came from but it has nothing to do with the actual content of the book. I will be returning my copy.
