This book is broken down into chapters on different topics so you can easily read the chapter(s) that you are most interested in first. The research is thorough and science-backed. What I found most helpful is the 'bookshelf' at the end of the book for each chapter for furthering any research on topics that you would like more information and resources on. I also enjoyed the stories and voices from other moms; they made me feel that I was not alone in making my own instinctive parenting choices.
The authors have done extensive research and created an easy-to-read book that is informative, heartfelt, nonjudgmental, and honest. They are moms just like you and me; they don't claim to be experts; and their advice is their experiences plus well-researched valid information. The book presents non-mainstream (with respect to the Western culture) ways of first year parenting, provides readers different options, and encourages the use of common sense and parenting instincts. It opens your mind to alternatives, helps you relax to what comes natural, guides you to listen to your own heart, and reassures and validates your ideas as a parent.
I definitely will recommend this book to all expecting and new parents. Keep an open mind, and think out of the box. You might be surprised to learn that conventional and mainstream baby-raising method perhaps is not for you, and it is just as easy to come to your own choices after reading this book. You might also learn that you would not need to buy/own everything from a giant baby store chain!
This book makes a lot of sense. It's fast-paced, fun and enjoyable to read. I wish the book were longer, and hope that the authors will write a book for the toddler years!
She came to the hospital with 1 min contraction every 3 min. Her child delivery was in process. She didn't have a doula, her husband, though, was with her all the time. She was practicing some Yoga during each end every contraction. It was so difficult to concentrate at the hospital, Doctors and nurses came (un - knocking) every 20 min to see how she's getting along. Well, she wasn't FAST enough. After 3 hours a doctor came and suggested a Pitosin injection. Her reason: the baby may be at a certain risk. My friend got scared and of course had to agree to doctor's suggestion. After an hour she couldn't stand the pain and asked for Epidural injection. She fall asleep. She woke up with an urge to push, but she couldn't lie in bed, she wanted to push in a different position. The doctor came and explained that she can not deliver in a different position other than lying down. The urge to push disappeared. Doctor said it's a sign for regression and she MUST go to a C-section. She didn't want to deliver her child this way, that's not what she had planned.
We live in such an industrial world. We are all being managed by financial interests. Who could have ever imagined that child delivery could also be an industrial process! Well, here in Israel hospitals get $2500 for every child that is being delivered. If the hospital uses complex procedures such as c-section, vacuum- it gets MORE money from the health insurance company. So, is it ALWAYS a life saving situation?
Up until a year ago, every child that was born it the hospital was given a formula. Why is that? Was his mom unable to breastfeed him? Or is it just a certain agreement between the hospital and the formula companies?
Well, most of us don't know it could be different! Most of us don't know home birth could be an option for safe delivery. Most of us don't know that a child should not be taken a way from us right after its delivery. Most of us don't know we should trust our own intuition and our child ! nature made us moms from the moment we became such!
This amazing book is a reminder what our own society made us forget. We know how to be moms ! we should only listen to our inner thoughts! This book contains all the right information needed from the pregnancy to a child's first year. No financial interests! Only the best for you and your child! Highly recommended!

Already a believer in attachment parenting, breast feeding, elimination communication, and baby-led weaning, I learned several new things. I also enjoyed the real life experiences from different mothers interspersed throughout the chapters.
Unlike many other parenting books available, this one advocates trusting your mother's intuition, doesn't talk down to parents, and doesn't use popular opinion not founded by science to guilt parents into making decisions that are quite probably wrong for them and their baby. These women know what they're talking about... Reading this book feels like having a conversation with a good friend who's advice you actually want to take
The only downside is that in the kindle version, some of the text is repeated. It was a bit confusing at first but didn't detract from the book.

I found the book non-judgemental and a really useful tool to find more information.
The book covers sections including co-sleeping, communication elimination and feeding which are often very controversial areas of parenting, and it gives a basic overview of options, benefits and potential risks of each option and offers ways to find more help and info.
I found it invaluable when going against family and friends outdated advice with my first child, as this book encourages you to follow your instincts rather than blindly following what others are advising.
