My struggling reader (7 yrs old) really enjoys this book. The story is fun, the words are reasonable, and there is enough repetition to help the words “stick.”There is also a nice life lesson in there. I wish there were more Captain and Matey books!

My son just loved this book when we borrowed it from the library. We found ourselves checking it out so often, that I just decided to add a copy of it to our library at home.

My son, who is an early reader and loves pirates, loved this book. Our only complaint is that there is only one book of tales. Please give us more Captain and Matey!

My son is in 1st grade and is considered to be an above average reader. He loved this book and found it very easy to read.

My four year old grandson is into all-things-Pirate and this book was perfect for him. It's got humor, it's well-written and lively and very Pirate-y without gore or violence. I would certainly recommend it for ages three to seven, definitely.

Great for early readers or as a read-aloud. Excellent writing. Charming, funny illustrations and original stories about a pair of pirates who are well-developed characters, not just flat. A keeper and a classic like Little Bear and Frog and Toad.

I like books that appeal to boys, but are not so "dumbed down". This one has a clever plot and message, but still is about Pirates. My son (5) liked it a lot. Great illustrations too!

Fun, engaging, clever stories with expressive, humorous illustrations. Every time I read this beginning reader about a pair of pirates finding ways to be friends despite their differences, the more I like it. Extremely well done.

Extremely nice story, simple to read and short enough for a 4 year old child to follow with full attention. I read it to my son and he liked it. Illustrations are very nice and subject (pirates) is impossible to mistake.
