I played the original King's Bounty: The Legend after reading an article in PC Gamer, which declared that it was one of the best strategy games in the tradition of Heroes of Might and Magic that was ever made, and almost never played. That game became something of a cult classic, and later in it's release rose in sales as more and more people around the world heard of it. I played it, and was just spellbound by it. The graphics are amazing, the story is engaging and at times both funny AND dramatic, and the game play is rich and detailed, with combat that can benefit from actual strategy. So when I learned there was a sequel, I snapped that up as well. ( King's Bounty: Armored Princess ) So naturally I just HAD to have Crossworlds when it came out. The problem is, it hadn't been released in hard copy form yet, so I decided to try my first digital game download. In no time at all, I was zooming through another epic adventure that was both new and fresh and familiar all at the same time. But, and it's a BIG but, as other people have pointed out, this has a limited activation capacity. Specifically, it's 3 times. Now, I love to replay my favorite games at least once a year. So finding out about the limited activation really ticked me off. As a result, as soon as the hard copy version came out, I bought it so I'd never have to worry about that. Now that means I paid for the SAME GAME TWICE!!! ARRRGGGGHHH! LOL ( King's Bounty: Crossworlds - Game Of The Year Edition (PC) ) Now that all that's been said, I'm gonna blow your mind holes. I STILL give this a 5 star review. Yeah, it's THAT good. I wasn't kidding when I said it's one of the best, most overlooked games of all times. If you're at ALL a fan of turn based strategy games like Heroes of Might and Magic 5 ( Heroes of Might & Magic 5 Collectors Edition ) etc... Then this is a MUST HAVE game. I truly believe that not only will you not be disappointed, you will LOVE it.
Thanks for your time folks.
Sincerely, R.A. McDowell

The game is great and you can read detailed reviews on the retail version product page. This download creates two separate game folders and icons for each of the games. The original game, "King's Bounty: The Legend" does not require activation. The more recent "King's Bounty: Armored Princess" and its expansion "King's Bounty: Crossworlds" (bundled in the same interface) does require activation and it allows 3 activations! I was pretty annoyed by this, especially since the Amazon downloads are market as a way to never loose your games since you can download them over and over again. I appreciate the need for copywrite protection, but this isn't the answer. I have being playing Heros of Might Magic for years and have installed some of the versions on a half a dozen machines that I have gone through over the years. Between computer issues and new hardware, it is very easy to blow through 3 installs. Now I only paid the sales price of $8.75 so I would have bought it had I knows this limitation. I almost bought it last week when it was nearly full price, and I'm glad I didn't.

I had no problem launching "King's Bounty: The Legend". However when I tried to launch "King's Bounty: Armored Princess" I got the error "The program can't start because d3dx9_41.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem". Reinstalling is not the answer. Apparently Windows 7 64 bit has trouble recognizing all of the earlier Active X components and didn't add the file's path to the Registry. The solution was to run Microsofts DX webinstaller - [...]. That adds all of the exisiting Active X components in and registers them and it fixed my problem.

Its a well known fact apparently (too bad I didn't know this BEFORE i purchased) that this game is much to outdated to work on just about any machine. Amazon should STOP selling it in light of this. Just wasted $$$ on this to get NOTHING! As a Prime member and a loyal amazon customer (from the very beginning when amazon was very new) I am very upset by this. I order from amazon several times a month and this is making me regret giving them my business. I wrote for a refund but I doubt I will get it...

Crossworlds is completely broken for me, but Legend works fine. Still no fixes for Crossworlds, even after an hour's search.

I played it in the past and bought this one just for a copy of reservation. I dislike the fact that the SN for armored princess can only be used three times and then you have to contact the sales department to add a feel more. This make me feel I am borrowing the game rather than owning the game.

Yes, supposedly I can deactivate the game to get one time back, but somehow it doesn't work with my Win8 OS. I reached the CS and was told it was the system to be blamed. They sent me a patch which I installed, but the problem persist. At the end, the CS just told me to move on and notify them when I run out of the three times...

Other than the above. I have no complain on the game. Classic one. But, have to say, the time has gone. So did the initial feeling. Oh, that's the life. Enjoy your games when you still have the passion.
