His Heart: A Stand-Alone Romance Kindle Edition
For Sebastian McKinney, wrestling is life. He’s focused and determined. Strong and capable. Nothing, not even his biggest rival, will stand in his way.
Except a silent illness that almost kills him.
Brooke Summerlin is no stranger to adversity. Raised by an abusive mother, she’s learned to cope as best she can. When Liam sweeps into her life, she believes she’s found the impossible—a happily ever after.
Until her happy ending is ripped away. And Brooke’s greatest tragedy becomes Sebastian’s second chance at life.
Four years later, two souls linked by loss find each other. Although their connection is undeniable, Brooke sinks in grief that threatens to drown her. Sebastian is desperate to help—desperate to save her—even though he has his own uncertainties to face.
But sometimes love transcends the boundaries between life and death—between what is known and what cannot be explained. The heart that loved Brooke still beats for her. And the one thing that might save them both is love.
Author’s note: An intense stand-alone contemporary romance that explores the transcendent, healing power of love. You’ll need a few tissues (and maybe some chocolate), but trust me, their beautiful happily ever after is worth it.

Overall Thoughts: This book pulls on your emotions, if you are looking for a light read this is not for you. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride. This book is not for the faint of heart, it covers addictions and other coping methods that people use when dealing with loss. I love the way the author told the story of this trio, how she tied everything together with discussing important matters. I recommend this book if you love emotional reads!
This book gave me all the feels, it gutted me, made me laugh, cry like a baby and put me back together again.
Absolutely beautifully written. These characters and this story are embedded in my soul!!

I am not sure where to start with this review of a book that is like no other. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. It is a standalone. It does have a HEA, though at times I was not sure how they were going to get there.
The book is divided into three parts. Part one tells the story of Brooke and her life with Liam from the time they meet in high school. I love Liam and his sweet character and the way he loves Brooke. Their young love is special and deep. Part one also tells a concurrent story of Sebastian and how his illness began and progressed. I really appreciated the detail of how his illness affected him and his outlook on life in general. The main characters do not meet in part one and that breaks the norms of a romance novel. However, I believe that the structure is 100% necessary to this story. There is some heartbreak as the story unfolds. I recommend some tissues.
Part two begins four years later. The reader learns how tragedy has shaped each of them. I love Sebastian. I admire his focus, his strength, and his determination. He is still figuring out how to live the life he didn't think he would have and it felt very real. Brooke has not handled things well. She is spiraling near rock bottom. My heart was broken for her. The author's words made me feel her grief, her despair, and her emptiness. When she and Sebastian meet there is some awkwardness, some fear, and some magic. I love the friendship and the love that builds between them in part two of the book.
Part three is where things get real. Sebastian must deal with making decisions about how he plans to live his life. Brooke struggles with her past and her present while trying to decide if she wants to pursue a future that is not empty. I really appreciated that the relationship between Sebastian and Brooke is separate and different from the relationship Brooke had with Liam. I love the depth of love that they build together and the trust that is there from the very beginning.
The secondary characters of this book are incredible. Charlie is the best friend every guy should have. I love the way the reader gets to see his relationship with Sebastian evolve over several years. I loved Charlie's steadfastness and his support of Sebastian through the whole book. Their bromance was a secondary story that was well-developed and perfect. I also really appreciated Olivia throughout the book. There were times that her relationship with Brooke was rocky, yet they make it back to each other with deeper understanding. I love the no-nonsense attitude that Olivia has and the romantic storyline her character has as the story develops. Her romantic arc is also an important part of the story as the two couples develop relationships at the same time yet they are very different. There are also family dynamics at play that are well-developed and important to the story.
This was an excellent read. I really cannot say that enough. It is beautifully written and even poetic at times. I know some readers shy away from this book because it is emotional at times. I can only say that the emotions are a necessary part of this story. There were times where I was angry with Brooke. There were moments when my heart was broken for all of them. There were moments that are s3xy and light. There are happy times. And there were moments when I wasn't sure how Brooke and Sebastian would get to where they needed to be, or even if they should get there. Ultimately they do, and they are both better for it.
The things that happen to us in life and how we react to them shape our character in ways we often do not dwell on. This book tells a story of people shaped by tragedy but who still unite in love. It is one of my favorite reads of the ye

The characters are strong and importantly, likeable. Brooke is the stereotypical shy and introverted outcast in school. Her life is tough and even the love of good person can’t fix everything. It can’t make her mother stop drinking or getting wasted in whatever drugs her latest drop out boyfriend can provide. Life starts to look up when the boy next door stands up for her and takes her under his wing… but just when life starts to look up for Brooke, everything changes.
On the other side of the country, Sebastian was the kid who had everything. The rosy future, the perfect homecoming Queen style girlfriend, nice house… future all mapped out. He’s the gorgeous, hot, fit and healthy champion college wrestler with everything laid out in front of him until he collapses from a sudden cardiac arrest. What initially appeared to be mild heart condition escalated rapidly into a life threatening and debilitating fight to survive. In the end there’s only two options… transplant or death.
Now, I’m not going to say too much more because you need to read this book to fully appreciate how everything comes together. But to say as one life ends it allows another to continue.
It’s a beautiful story about connection and love finding a way to mend what has been broken. It makes you question about what truly brings people together… fate, destiny, luck.
There are many times in this story where I’ve literally held back tears, even though in many ways, I knew what was coming.
Brooke’s personal battles with depression and the effects of slipping into a spiral of prescription drugs and alcohol is so moving. Instead of accepting the support of those who love her and want to help her, she pushes them away… until she meets Seb. There’s something about him that tells her that he’s worth living for.
Sadly, not even Seb’s love, devotion and loyalty can protect her from her own survivors guilt and worries around following in her mother’s footsteps. Will Seb be able convince her to want to live? If not for him, then for them? Will she be able to forgive herself for not being strong enough to cope with all the pain and grief that life has dealt her?
An excellent story that really touched my heart. Seb is such an amazing character. His love for Brooke comes from a shared heart but his devotion to her comes from an inner strength and unwavering belief in the woman who owns his heart.
A must read for any fan of this genre. Loved it.

“The relief that washed through me was so strong it warmed me from the inside, burning away my fear and shame. With Liam, I was safe. With Liam, I was home.”
Until, she has to face the greatest tragedy of her life. Her life fell apart after that accident. She lost herself in the pain and hurt; she almost destroyed her life to numb the hollow in her heart.
At the age of eighteen, Sebastian defeated his biggest rival, but that very fight was the last fight in his wrestling career. From that point, he had to fight to stay alive. At one point, he had lost the faith in himself and his life. But it was not his time yet. A ray of hope shinned brightly giving him the second chance at his life. He recovered with a new heart, but the heart which gave him life also brought love in his life. Not immediately, but soon he met the love of his life.
One look at a girl across the street and his heart starts beating again as if it has found its purpose of living.
“And I knew, with every ounce of my being, that she was Brooke.”
Brooke was too broken and self-destructive to live her life on the right path. Sebastian saw right through it and was willing to do anything to help her. He helped her to start fresh but the path was not easy. She was trying to fix her life but the pain was unbearable and the pull of his heart was undeniable.
This book takes you on an emotional turmoil. It shows you the unconditional love of Liam and Brooke, the heart-wrenching pain of Brooke, the defeat of Sebastian’s will to live; also the second chance he got at his life. This is the story of a heart shared by two and loved by one. His heart loved her enough to find her again. It’s a beautiful story by Claire Kingsley. I have also mentioned this in my previous reviews that I like her writing because somewhere we can relate to it, it is realistic. The self-destructive pain of Brooke, her depression is quite normal thing faced by most of the people after losing the loved ones. Sebastian’s silent support and love made Brooke strong to feel love again.
I loved the friendship between Charlie and Sebastian. Even the worst times can bring good in your life; Charlie’s friendship was the good thing that came with Sebastian’s illness. Their friendship is truly amazing. And also Olivia and Brooke’s friendship is precious.
I will recommend this book to all the people who believe in love and also to those who follow their heart. It’s an amazing book for all the romantic souls out there.
