You can count on Rick Steves to tell you what you really need to know when traveling in Northern Ireland.

In this compact guide, Rick Steves and Pat O’Connor offer their best travel tips on Northern Ireland, including Belfast, Portrush, the Antrim Coast, Derry, and County Donegal. Visit the Ulster Museum in Belfast, tour the Dunluce Castle or Giant’s Causeway along the Antrim Coast, or peruse Derry’s political murals. You’ll get firsthand advice on the best sights, eating, sleeping, and nightlife, and the maps and self-guided tours will ensure you make the most of your experience. More than just reviews and directions, a Rick Steves Snapshot guide is a tour guide in your pocket.

Rick Steves Snapshot guides consist of excerpted chapters from Rick Steves European country guidebooks. Snapshot guides are a great choice for travelers visiting a specific city or region, rather than multiple European destinations. These slim guides offer all of Rick’s up-to-date advice on what sights are worth your time and money. They include good-value hotel and restaurant recommendations, with no introductory information (such as overall trip planning, when to go, and travel practicalities).

About the Author

Rick Steves has spent 100 days every year since 1973 exploring Europe. Rick produces a public television series (Rick Steves' Europe), a public radio show (Travel with Rick Steves), and an app and podcast (Rick Steves Audio Europe); writes a bestselling series of guidebooks and a nationally syndicated newspaper column; organizes guided tours that take thousands of travelers to Europe annually; and offers an information-packed website (RickSteves.com). With the help of his hardworking staff of 80 at Europe Through the Back Door—in Edmonds, Washington, just north of Seattle—Rick's mission is to make European travel fun, affordable, and culturally broadening for Americans.

Irish-American
Pat O'Connor first journeyed to Ireland in 1981, and was hooked by the history and passion of the feisty Irish culture. Frequent return visits led to his partnership with Rick Steves and his work as a tour guide and coauthor of this book. Pat loves all things Hibernian (except the black pudding) and thrives on the adventures that occur as he annually slogs the bogs in search of new Irish travel discoveries.

Guidebook author and travel TV host Rick Steves is America's most respected authority on European travel. Rick took his first trip to Europe in 1969, visiting piano factories with his father, a piano importer. As an 18-year-old, Rick began traveling on his own, funding his trips by teaching piano lessons. In 1976, he started his business, Rick Steves' Europe, which has grown from a one-man operation to a company with a staff of 100 full-time, well-travelled employees at his headquarters in Washington state. There he produces more than 50 guidebooks on European travel, America's most popular travel series on public television, a weekly hour-long national public radio show, a weekly syndicated column, and free travel information available through his travel center and ricksteves.com. Rick Steves' Europe also runs a successful European tour program. Rick Steves lives and works in his hometown of Edmonds, Washington. His office window overlooks his old junior high school.

We totally relied on this to guide our 4 days spent in Northern Ireland with our base in Portrush. This Snapshot did not let us down. We did not go to Belfast (were there on previous trip), but it provided all the info we needed to cover the beautiful Antrim Coast and also Derry. I highly recommend this guide.

While the size of this book may be small, it contains loads of information about Northern Ireland. I purchased because we are limited on weight for packing and I didn't want to tear the Northern Ireland pages out of my other travel book. This is perfect and has what I need to accompany on-the-fly internet searches.

Nicely organized compact resource for those heading to Northern Ireland. Would fit in anything you would be carrying daily. Good background material, as usual, good resource for places to eat and stay. Well worth the money.

Heading to Northern Ireland in May. This book told me everything I need, and helped me decide my itinerary. All of Rick Steves books are excellent.

I usually take a Rick Steves book with me whenever I travel in Europe. His suggestions on where to stay, eat and local transportation is pretty good.
This book is good "how to" if you are traveling via train and public transportation. However if you are driving a car in Ireland (the best way to see it) then the information is a little light on towns not connected via rail. What towns to use as a base for sight-seeing certain areas. His Rick Steves Ireland is much better for planning a driving tour of Ireland.

Very disappointed in this book. While titled Northern Ireland out of 103 paged book only 5 were devoted to Donegal . Though Steve's states it is one of the most 'ruggedly beautiful" and that "culturally the county shines" the information only give one driving tour and no information of alternative transportation besides auto. No mention of Donegal City or Letterkenny or other towns for visits a mention. Not at all to Rick Steven standards snd would not recommend this book to anyone who is interested in traveling to County Donegal.

Couldn't fint a guid just on Northern Ireland, so this was good. Particularly informative about the bigger cities, would have been even better if there had been more extensive info about other tourist sites.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but limited

OK as far as it goes, but it only covers three areas: Belfast, Derry and the Antrim coast, so of limited use as a general guide to visiting NI.
