The Bitterroot Inn (Jamison Valley) Kindle Edition
Her past. His secrets. They have more in common than she knows.
Maisy is happily content with the life she’s built for herself and her young son in small-town Prescott, Montana. Her child is thriving, her business is growing, and her family is as close as they’ve ever been. But when a handsome stranger walks into the lobby of her motel, her simple life is swept up in a wave of affection for his gentle heart. None of those feelings can be trusted, though. She made that mistake before with another man. The man she murdered.
Hunter was a different man when he first saw Maisy Holt from afar. He took one look at her and ran in the opposite direction. But years later, he’s back in Montana and unable to keep his distance. He shouldn’t have tried to find her but he never was good at rejecting temptation. The promise of the good she could bring into his life is too hard to resist. Maybe if he can disguise the lies and hide the deceit, he can keep her from learning the truth. Because his only chance at a future with her is by burying his past.

This is a suspenseful story for sure. The truths are revealed slowly. It’s a page turner. But Hunter and Maisy’s chemistry is immediate and they definitely heat up the pages as their relationship gets deeper. Hunter’s bond with little Coby is heart tugging. These three will steal your heart. Guaranteed.
The climax to this story, the secrets revealed are not completely unexpected but the way they are revealed. . . it’s simple. You will not be able to put down this book. Period.
Hunter, Maisy, and Coby deserve it all. It’s a treacherous road for them to get there so buckle up for the rollercoaster ride of your life. So worth it.
And the epilogue. It’s just very, very special.
Plot was…a bit much, but basically okay. The series as a whole was really good.
Maisy Holt is a survivor and a savior. She survived Everett and while doing so saved her son Coby. It took a few years and life changes before she was “okay”, and everyone in Prescott will tell you that she’s moved on and all of that nastiness is in the past. With her to-do list and her renovations, the Bitterroot Inn has been her saving grace.
Even if she occasionally feels a twinge of envy when in the presence of her friends and family and their significant others, she’s not quite ready to actively pursue a relationship. That is, until Hunter Faraday walks into her lobby.
Hunter has a deep dark secret that he’s keeping close. Protecting it until the time is right, as if there could ever be such a time. He was drawn to Maisy the first time he laid eyes on her and now that he’s returned to Prescott he finds himself pulled to her against all common sense and self-warnings. From the moment he heard her laughter and saw her smile he belonged to her. But how can a man build a relationship with the woman of his heart when he’s forced to hold so much of himself back?
I cannot say how much I adored these characters! My heart hurt for Maisy as I learned some of the techniques she had indulged in to help her deal with the effects Everett’s words had on her. On the surface she is a woman of strength but as the story progresses that strength grows and takes root deep inside of her.
Hunter comes with quite a bit of baggage himself and my heart was heavy when all of his secrets were revealed. Ultimately, he was a man deeply in love and prepared to do whatever it took to make things right.
That right there feeds my romantic soul. Hunter never once gave up and he made sure Maisy knew that he never would. Sigh.
Some interesting things I learned from The Bitterroot Inn:
Kicking a man in the cojones can be a precursor to falling in love
You can forget Santa Claus if you’ve got The Package Man - get your minds out of the gutter
Nervous energy can be transmitted from the page into your body resulting in tapping feet, bouncing legs and chewed off nails – Ms. Perry owes me a manicure
One text message can turn you into a sobbing mess – oh gawd that text killed me!
With just a look, I’m already in love with Mason Drummond
And the perfect epilogue can make you smile even as you weep because it is just…so…perfect.
Thank you Devney Perry for introducing me to all of the Jamison Valley characters that were parading in your head. I’ve absolutely loved getting to know them and while I will certainly revisit them in the future, I am saddened that for now the door is closing on this beautiful and amazing series.

Usually, wild horses couldn't stop me from clicking open a book as soon as I get the release email from amazon. But this time, I held off opening. I let it sit there for a week - whilst occasionally eyeing my kindle bookshelf like when the guy you like hasn't text back in time, so you obsessively eye up your phone like its betrayed you. In fact, I re-read an old series, just so that I could pretend it wasn't there, just so that I didn't have the accept that it wasn't the end - denial in its purest form.
I manned up today and read this beautiful novel in a matter of hours. Although I'm hugely saddened that its over, crying ridiculous happy tears at the epilogue and heart broken that I'm pretty sure I will never find my own Hunter, Jess, Nick, Silas or Beau - I can't help but feel at peace.
Now lets not lie, none of us would say No to a steak dinner at the Black Bull with any of Devney's Men, especially Jess (swoon!) but Hunter, Dr Faraday as I like to call him, is a hell of a guy. I agree with Maisy, never been a man bun fan myself, but for Hunter, I'd rip that hairband out of his hair and have my fingers running through it, quicker, than you could say Jack Robinson. Also, I very much dig a guy who appreciates the commitment that is taking care of anything but a short back & sides. I mean, he washes her hair! Hunter Faraday, you had me at "is this seat taken, ma'am" on page 1, line 1.
I love Maisy. I mean really love her, not because she's like me - because we are worlds apart in character, I'm more of a Sabrina, but because everyone has a Maisy in their friendship group. I have my own Maisy, the woman who is far too gentle, kind and forgiving for their own good. But they are the most positive boost a woman can have when stuff has hit the fan and I couldn't imagine living my life without her. Seeing Maisy's tough side over Hunter's lies and protectiveness over Coby, continuously made me grin - nothing better than to watch those women flare up like that over the people they love.
What can I say about Coby? Gah!! I want one...and a Rowen please.
It was a perfect end to the series Devney, I can't congratulate you enough on your success and beautiful writing. I can't wait to see more from you - (and if you could slip in the occasional character from this series into new ones, I think we would all be eternally grateful!)

Maisy faced a highly traumatizing event in her past that left her a little broken and scared of opening up her heart. Hunter was truly the perfect candidate to make her trust in love again. The guy was swoon worthy and right away there was this incredible connection between these two. It was lovely to also watch Hunter bonding with Maisy's little boy Cody. It was clear the man was all in with her. Despite her troubled past, Maisy was still a joyful person enjoying a simple life with her son. She's sweet, kind-hearted and has a chamring personality.
There was a bit of drama in this book, making this read so captivating. Secrets made this couple's romance challenging when everything was said and done, but their feelings were so palpable and real!
As usual with the Jamison Valley Series, the whole Prescott gang was there to make this read a pure pleasure. This series is truly something wonderful with this sense of togetherness between all these characters. The Bitterroot Inn was definitely another winner from Devney Perry!
