On the Way to You: A Road Trip Romance Kindle Edition
What makes you happy?
That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn’t give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga — but I just stared.
And then, I got in his car.
It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn’t going to miss it.
We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room — and still, we were strangers. One day we’d be laughing, the next, we wouldn’t speak. Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in.
Discovering his journal changed everything.
I read his thoughts, words not meant for anyone’s eyes, and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that.
I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked — until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.
Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn’t know if I could.

Review
"A hauntingly beautiful romance that tore my heart out, piece by piece, and left me breathless and aching when it was over. Steiner has a gift of writing passion and heartache in tandem and this novel illustrates that so masterfully. I loved, loved, loved this book." -- Bestselling Author Whitney Barbetti
"Achingly romantic and poignant while it handles deep subject matter with great respect, On the Way to You is not only my favorite book by Kandi Steiner, it's one of my favorite reads of 2017." -- Author Karla Sorensen
"The bittersweet journey these two characters travel -- which takes them far beyond where maps and miles carry them -- filled my heart with so much love and joy, I read this book in one sitting. Steiner's best work, hands down." -- Bestselling Author Staci Hart
"On the Way to You left me breathless. Steiner stirs up your emotions and takes you on a road trip that makes you question why your heart beats. It's a quiet, stunning reminder that all scars are beautiful. All the stars in the sky and a thank you, for reminding me what it feels like to race toward freedom." - Brittainy C. Cherry, Amazon #1 Bestselling Author
"On the Way to You is a breathtaking romance filled with a poignant and heartfelt message. Angsty. Intense. Downright unputdownable. This is an absolute favorite, must read of mine." -- Angie, Angie's Dreamy Reads
"On the Way to You starts as a cross-country road trip but becomes so much more. Emery and Cooper's journey is the most exhilarating, most fulfilling kind--one without a map or precise destination. I was in the car alongside them experiencing every wind-in-my-hair high and pothole-sized low. An emotional read where heart meets soul and hope prevails." -- Bestselling Author Jessica Hawkins

About the author
Kandi Steiner is a #1 Amazon Bestselling Author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tennessee. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.
An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. Her love for writing started at the ripe age of 10, and in 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.”
She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.
When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, planning her next adventure, or pole dancing (yes, you read that right). She enjoys live music, traveling, hiking, yoga, playing with her fur babies and soaking up the sweetness of life.

I need one of those road trip.
It was beautifully written by the author. I loved the story and the characters. Everything about the story was really good. You will not be disappointed. I don’t usually leave a review unless the story touched me. This one did.
Thank you Kandi for writing this story.
On the Way to You is a beautiful and emotional book of two people searching for something they currently don't have. Cooper is a young woman whose only goal in life is to go to college in Seattle. She is from a small town in Alabama, working at a small diner with parents that are less than ideal. She needs to get out and see the world and just experience it. She's seen a lot in her life, but hasn't experienced much.
On the other end of the spectrum is Emery. He is on a road trip across the US and is also searching for something. That something is his end game. Something his grandma told him to go out and seek. He's been a lot of places and experienced things, but he has one thing holding him back. When he walks into the diner Cooper's working at, all things change for both these characters.
I love romance and I love a good forced proximity story. But this was so much more. We got to travel across the country on a road trip with these two and experience life through their eyes. I adored the innocence of Cooper, but I could always feel something more with her. I was quite disappointed in her for one thing she kept doing (it will be obvious once you read the book), but it also allowed us to get in Emery's head since this was only told in Cooper's POV. The pain and darkness in Emery was almost too much to bear. But it allowed me to look deeper into some of my loved ones that have experienced this sort of darkness in the last year. It really hit home with me and grabbed hold of my heart.
Kandi Steiner not only gave us a love story, but she gave us a journey of self discovery all while traveling across the country. She pulled in side characters that pushed the story forward and she gave us 2 characters that needed each other in ways they both didn't know. This is a book that will stay with you and will weigh on your soul. It's beautiful, emotional and real. I'm glad I finally gave the book a chance and read it at the EXACT right time. It isn't always pretty, but it is filled with love and hope.
"You asked me that first day we met what made me happy. And I couldn't answer. I wasn't happy. I was breathing, and that was all. But then I got in your car, and I took my first breath, and I lived......"
I felt like I was exploring all of these beautiful places and meeting these interesting characters along the way. Like I was right there on the road with Cooper and Emery. I smelled the smells and saw the sights and it really was perfect and kind of surreal reading about them traveling during the Fall while it was actually Fall outside! That odd little similarity really added to my personal reading experience.
I loved everything about this book. First kisses, dog kisses, nicknames, the angst, the bad days, the good days, the secrets, the inner demons. ALL of it. One specific moment that Cooper had moved me so much. It was just a moment that she had with herself, but it was so relatable and I don’t know why but I just lost it, and I fell into that moment with her. She wasn’t even speaking any words, and it was really powerful. I love when a character can move me with their inner dialogue. The writing is just brilliant. Devastating and wonderful all at once.
This is a must read, and I can’t rave about it enough. I cried all the tears for so many different reasons and when I came out on the other end I felt exhausted and satisfied and I was talking to myself A LOT. I do that whenever I finish a great book, that’s how I know how it was great. And then I just sat there and sobbed for what seemed like forever, and then I read the authors note and cried some more. But they were good tears. Healthy tears. Tears that didn’t have a home until I finished this book. Kandi, thank you for writing this story. It changed me, and I didn’t know I needed it until it was in my hands making me feel all sorts of ways. Next time I’m on the road with the windows down this will be the first thing I think of. Your words are beautiful and I just want everyone to READ THIS BOOK!

Emery & Cooper's stories were both very deep, touching & emotional. While the story is based on them meeting & moving on together there are also their separate stories that are each so touching in their own right.
First we have Cooper. Living in a small town, with non involved parents & the need & want to escape. To move on with her life & do something more.
“And I don’t want to die before I’ve even had the chance to live.”
Then there's Emery. He's fighting something very different from her. He's the dark to her light & doesn't know if he can recover from it. He has set out on a journey & needs to see what his destiny will be at the end.
"It isn’t death that’s scary. It’s living without actually living at all, breathing without purpose, existing without essence."
These two come together at a time when unbeknownst to them at the time they really needed each other to guide them on the journey they each set out on. Even though they were finding themselves they also end up finding each other.
"And in my heart, I knew the odds were against us — that we might be able to start a happy ever after, but our chances of finishing it were slim. I turned the page, anyway."
This book was so moving and so deep and touching. When you finish continue on to the authors note it's quite touching as well.
“We think we know the world, but we’re only seeing a tiny second of its journey.”
