For months Phebe lived in hell! She prayed for the day when it would all end. What she didn't expect was to be rescued, put in a safe house and asked to testify against what she had just lived through. Nor did she expect to find the truth behind her abduction. She is left feeling broken, ashamed and not sure who she can trust.
Then in walks the man that is there to represent her. The feelings that he makes her feel scare her. She is battling within herself to free the things that haunt her, but Every time she tries and shows her attraction towards her sexy attorney flashbacks return and she runs from his touch.
Donovan, has pretty much given up on having any type of a relationship the last one shredded his heart. For the last year he has hardy wanted his role as Dom at the club that he half owns and buries himself at work. When his best friend comes to him asking for a favor he knows he w ont refuse to help him!
When Donovan meets Phebe she usually isn't the type he goes after but what he sees in her after everything she has been through he admires her fight. He respects the way she is handling all the cold hard truths about what some of the people she loved did to her. The more time he spends with her the more he feels the need to protect her. Giving her what he feels she needs by hiding the biggest part of himself.
As the two get closer will the threat of Donovans secret divide them or will the devil himself come for what he believes belongs to him?

This one is about a true nightmare—a woman trafficked into sexual servitude and tortured mentally, emotionally, and physically. The author does a credible job of the aftermath of her rescue in describing the trauma and panic attacks she experiences as well as the beneficial effects of therapy. That said, the writing is not finessed and the story cries out for editing, both for substance and grammar.

OK.  I have a new favorite in the Secrets Series by L.K. Shaw. 

I love the darker reads and this one was right up my alley.  

Phebe's journey back from her harrowing experience was a tough one to read but it was written very well and I could not put this one down.  Anticipation was the key factor in this story and there was a lot in waiting for Phebe to discover her more submissive side and if it was something she could do and the waiting for Donovan to decide if he can be the Dom she needs.  I actually wanted MORE of the D/s relationship, but I think this book would have become a bazillion pages long.  I can imagine it is hard to get in all the key details of a book of this caliber and knowing that, I'm happy with the story as is.  Though I do hope they make cameo's in future books!

Secrets of Betrayal does follow a storyline from previous books, but it is a standalone and can be read as such.  I loved the previous stories as well, so obviously I recommend getting them too!

I am giving Secrets of Betrayal 5 stars.  Not sure how L.K. Shaw will top this one for me...

I have followed her books from the start, and this is the best book yet!! It is very dark. I had to put it down a few times to take a few breathes to only pick it right back up and dive back in.
You could feel the pain, the bravery, the love coming from Phobie and Donnavan. Even when Donnavan was going to give up being a Dom, it felt real, not like he was just pretending to give it up for a short time in hopes she would one day change.. That's true love of a person. I loved the fact that the author didn't have the herione doing all the "getting over things" on her own, that she actually knew it would take a therapist to help someone get thru and past what she had went thru. Before any jumps on me, friends and family can be great therapist (I use them Alot) But I don't believe on this subject matter they could do what a real therapist can do.
This book was well written and researched. I cannot wait for more of the authors book to come.

This is the fifth book in this series and each one is a great story on it's own but I would encourage you to read each one in order you will find it makes it better. This is a well written story with wonderful characters. I truly believe you will enjoy this book. But please remember that these stories are in a BDSM setting so this is kink but well written kink so if this not your type of story you will not like this one. I enjoyed this whole series. Give it a chance.

This story went a little darker than the others. Phebe is an excellent example of how strong women can be when life gets crazy. Donovan showed he was more of a Dom than even he knew, standing by Phebe when others were willing to count her out.
