Subtitles don't capture all the words, but are very good.
Superintendent Webberley: "She claims she's being excluded from all the good jobs. She can hardly go running to a tribunal if she's on a high profile case with one of our top officers."
Chief Superintendent Hillier: "But aren't you creating more of a problem for yourself, risking a clash between Barbara Havers and Lynley?"
Webberley: "Are we talking Lynley the Detective Inspector or Lynley the Eighth Earl of Asherton?"
Hillier: "The 'fast track Oxford golden boy, arrogant, aristocratic ponce', I remember being one of her phrases."
So Lynley and Havers are hardly expected to function as a team. As you start watching you could be forgiven for thinking Havers has no sense of humor and Lynley has no sense of proportion.
They are part of Scotland Yard, but over the episodes they head outside of London may times. And once, even go to Rome.
At almost 1 ½ hours an episode, there is a lot of time to explore the personal lives of Lynley and Havers as well as delivering multiple red herrings in the murder mysteries themselves. For me, there was too much time spent on the personal, or maybe it is more accurate to say that I got bored with Lynley's personal travails. Episode synopses are given in a comment to this review.
The Inspector Lynley Mysteries aired in 6 series, from March 2001 through November 2007. This Complete Series totals 2130 minutes of show, which is over 35 hours total viewing in the 24 episodes (2-part pilot and 22 episodes). The episodes are presented in Dolby Digital 2 and English SDH subtitles are available on the episodes and the Bonus Feature. The subtitles do not always follow the dialogue exactly, but the differences are not great.
The one Bonus Feature is divided into three parts, one appearing on the discs after episodes 10 (21 minutes), 16 (18 minutes) and 22 (18 minutes). The Bonus is "Inspecting the Inspector", an interview with Nathaniel Parker, who plays Lynley. I thought these were amusing, with Parker's stories interspersed with clips from the show. There were lots of terrific guest stars, such as Bill Nye and a young John McAvoy. He also talks about his character: "He's a Lord. He's working at the Met. Which, I remember we were criticized in the British press for that when it came out.... In fact, all those guys who criticized us didn't read the press report we released, which said, 'Did you know there were five Lords in the police force?' It's not an uncommon thing."
The DVDs of the Complete Collection are not presented in the best way. All the discs are piled on top of each other on one spindle. Space saving but not as protective of your discs and is also inconvenient for changing discs.
"If you want to find out how someone died, find out how they lived. How they loved."

Avec le temps et au fil des épisodes on il arrive à bien comprendre. Je prévois une reprise de la série au complet dans quelque mois pour bien l'approfondir.
