Product Description
Product Description
CUT. PUSH. DONE. Innovative push-to-connect design makes for quick and easy installation. Connect two pieces of PEX, copper, CPVC, PE-RT and/or HDPE tubing in any combination. Use the right tool for the job with the connector that is ideal for working in tight spaces. Faster install time and ease of use reduces installation errors. The SharkBite Connection System makes any plumbing project fast and easy thanks to unique push-to-connect technology. When you insert a pipe into a SharkBite quick-connect fitting, the fitting's stainless-steel teeth bite down and grip the pipe, while its special O-ring compresses to create a watertight seal.
From the Manufacturer
SharkBite is the push-fit connection system that's really taking hold. It's the easiest way to join copper, CPVC or PEX pipe in any combination - with no soldering, clamps, unions or glue. Just insert the pipe and the stainless steel teeth bite down and grip tight, while a specially formulated O-ring compresses to create a perfect seal. Disassembly is just as fast using the simple disconnect tool. So fittings and valves can be easily changed and reused. They can even be rotated after assembly for easier installation in tight spaces. Get SharkBite, and get a grip on your next plumbing project. These fittings are lead free and meet all requirements for plumbing in California and Vermont.

The sharkbite product has held well according to studies and the few that failed were thought to be due to burrs. To deburr your pipe use a deburring product on the end of each pipe or use sand paper or a nail file to sand until the end is smooth. Also the sharkbite must be inserted to the proper depth. Videos will show you how to do this simple step. You can also choose to insert a shut off valve which may come in handy in the future at relevant sites.
Pex is supposed to be superior to copper. I have found that pex is very cheap, easy to work with, and useful for patches. There are different kinds of pex. Pex A and pex B are what you will usually see available. Pex A is more flexible and expands, it is freeze resistant. You should use this if you live in a cold climate. It is also easier to use for small patches, like a few feet or less. I haven't seen Pex A for sale on Amazon but I've seen it at the local hardware and on ebay. Pex B is stiffer and harder to bend or straighten however warming it up helps. If you are using pex be sure to use the proper type particularly around hot water heaters.
Hope that helps! Good luck on your project!
With any SharkBite push to connect that isn't a problem. You simply push them on and job done with no leaks. I have some that are over ten years old and still no problems or leaks. I just installed a water softener system and had to remove a couple of the push on connector which was done using the SharkBite removal tool and was able to reuse those fitting... and still no leaks from them.
While researching what other options I had online, I ran into many repair sites that raved about SharkBites for jobs such as the one I needed done. I talked to someone I knew who had used one in the past and likewise had nothing but positive things to say about them. I didn't have money for a plumber so based on all the positive reviews and word of mouth gave this item a shot.
It worked pefectly. I purchased a tubing cutter along with this, measured how much pex I'd have to cut, got under the house and it literally took me less than five minutes to cut the pex and install the SharkBite. I did this eight months ago and the repair is still holding strong.
The only thing I'd advise is that this item doesn't come with the removal tool, so I'd highly suggest getting that along with this. If you end up installing it incorrectly or unevenly, its very difficult to remove with the tool. Installation doesn't require a tool, only removal.
I can't even stress how relieved I was to find the SharkBite and that it was so easy to install. Highly recommended to repair minor holes in pipes or as a general coupler to join two pieces together.
