The Case of the Lovable Labs (The Thousand Islands Doggy Inn Mysteries Book 12) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 391 ratings

One wedding, two murders, three of the most adorable Labrador puppies Suzy and Josie have ever seen, and a wide variety of suspects provide the foundation for The Case of the Lovable Labs, book #12 in the increasingly popular, Thousand Islands Doggy Inn Mysteries.

It’s wedding time for Sammy and Jill, two of the Inn’s most important staff members, and it should be a joyous time for them as well as their friends and families. But when the boyfriend of Jill’s mother drops dead while giving his toast during the rehearsal dinner, things take a turn for the worse in a hurry. And when a second body is found after the reception, it becomes clear that the two murders are definitely connected, and a whole host of suspects are soon lined up directly in Suzy’s sights.

At the top of the list are Jill’s sister, her maid of honor who’s taking her responsibilities way too seriously, and her mother, a woman with a few serious issues of her own. Also on Suzy’s list are two of Jill’s aunts who have a fondness for Kamikazes, and like the maid of honor and her mother, were previously romantically involved with the first victim. And just when Suzy and Chief Abrams begin to narrow their search for the killer, the second victim is discovered, and it’s back to square one.
Further complicating things is the tension between the maid of honor and Josie, as well as between Suzy and her mother who is convinced that her daughter has finally gone off the deep end. And when Suzy puts herself in an extremely dangerous situation, she provides her mom, along with everyone else, with more than enough ammunition to prove the point.

The Thousand Islands Doggy Inn Mysteries features two of the smartest and funniest lead female protagonists to hit the cozy mystery scene in a very long time, and Suzy and Josie’s affection for food and their boundless love and devotion to their dogs puts this new series in the don’t miss category. The Case of the Lovable Labs is the latest installment in this fast-paced and funny series that affectionately focuses on dogs, food, and the natural beauty of the Thousand Islands region.

These are fun reads. I am reading them all. Chapter 6 had me laughing so hard, it took me a while to finish the chapter. I always enjoy the humor. While I agree with some of the other reviews about the same petty snarky comments in all the books, the stories are good and the humor is great. If you are looking to take your mind off your challenges for a while, I think you will be laughing away in no time.

This series is always a fun read and this is no exception. Although I think the author missed the boat with the name of the yellow lab -- it should have something like Butterscotch or Caramel.

I am really enjoying this series. This book has me laughing especially at the comments between Josie and Faith. There were so many interesting suspects. This is an interesting series with all the different breeds of dogs.

B. R. Snow has great skill with the turn of a phrase. The mysteries are bizarre and very entertaining. The interaction of the characters is superb. I just discovered the Doggy Inn books and have ready read all 12 of them twice. I am eagerly awaiting number 13. The dogs really steal the show.

Too many dark things around what could have been a beautiful wedding. Dogs played a very small role. Others in the series have been better.

I have just finished a back to back reading of this series. As with all previous books, the plot is interesting & the characters complex, but have further devolved to the sophomoric.
The repetitive use of slang & disrespect among the leading characters is unnecessary & off-putting. Until now, I could excuse their silly arguments & insults, but they have crossed the line for what well educated, experienced, mature business women might be expected to perform. Their interplay now exceeded the bounds of believability & is no longer even remotely humorous.
Perhaps the author should make use of a proof-reader and/or editor to tidy up the script.

I’ve read all the books in the series so far and I think this is my favourite so far. I love the main characters and the smart repartee and of course, all their dogs. The mystery is usually a well kept secret until close to the end but not unbearable suspense. I just can’t wait to read the next book.
