Told from mainly Alessio and Ayla's points of view but there are occasional others like Lena and Alberto. Each giving readers more pieces of the puzzle and a better understanding of the characters and events that had taken place.

By golly does this author, who is new to me, know how to describe her characters with finite details..both good and bad. You definitely go through the emotions with each character or because of them. There are times when you feel real fear, or rage and others where the gentleness is almost overwhelming in this male dominated world.

The one thing you definitely feel is alive!

Lylah James is just amazing. I love her work. I really enjoy this series honestly. Ayla and Alessio 4 eva! I never thought I would ever be interested in a book that involves the Mafia and Mobs but here I am writing a 5 star review. I seriously recommend these books and all Lylah's books honestly. Read this first book and I promise you won't be disappointed

I really liked the storyline, the whole promised to a monster (by her father, the boss man) and then running away to accidently bump into the enemy of her monster. So anyway the story seemed to be a right to start with Ayla meets the other boss man who is spose to be hard core bad, evil, monster etc... but half way through it's like his whole personality changed and it was a little like I was reading a totally different type of book, not mafia related. Then the last 2% (Maybe a little more) it went back to the mafia side and it was like all badarse right up until the end. I didn't like how the boss guy fully changed, I understand because of different situations that happen make a person change etc... but I thought the middle of bk wld have been just as dark as the start.
Other then the change of personalities I like how the bk was written, 😁

Alessio is the head of the Russian Mafia, hellbent on avenging the death of his mother.
Ayla is the Princess of the Abandonato Mafia looking for an escape from her life.

He doesn't know who she is and she won't tell him but there is a traitor among them.

This was my first Lylah James book and it definitely won't be the last. This book does end in a cliffhanger so beware.
I cannot wait to read Part 2 in this series.

I loved the plot to this story, so sweet and innocent while still being dark and tainted.

The characters in this book all work together so well in telling this story. The heroine has been through a lot and running away after years of abuse and finds a place she can belong. Watching the chemistry between the main characters develop and their walls fall down, really keeps you rooting for them.

The story is a little slow paced, going between the two main characters point of views makes the story drag a bit, hence the 3 start rating. However it is a great story with great romance and pain to keep you turning the pages.

I will continue with this series.

The novel contains dual perspectives- Alessio & Ayla, with sprinkles of glimpses of each of their pasts.

Main Characters:
✧ Alessio is the leader of the Ivanshov Mafia. Cruel, ferocious, cold-blooded. He has one goal: to kill and destroy the Abandonato Mafia empire after what they did to his mother and princess.
✧ Ayla is the daughter of the leader of the Abandonato Mafia. She is escaping from her devastating and hurtful past involving her father.

They meet one day after Ayla runs away from her father and home and hides in a car that arrives at the Ivanshov Mafia's mansion, where she runs after escaping from the car and ends up underneath Alessio's bed.
I loved each other, their characters, and them together, how they bring peace and calmness and how they help one another.

TW: suicide (attemps + thoughts), rape, murder/death, abuse
I would be cautious of beginning this novel as there can be some vivid and dreadful imagery.
The writing is beautiful and emotional. I definitely cried while reading it, and my heart aches and breaks for both Alessio & Ayla. But for them together, it makes me smile, and my heart warms.
This novel ends in a cliffhanger that I did not see coming.
I am so excited to read the next installment.
