"ONCE UPON A TIME"IS TIMELESS

In a faraway kingdom, a king has been betrayed. Deeply hurt and bitterly angry, he vows never to be deceived again. Unfortunately, the king's plan to protect himself will endanger all of the realm's young women, unless one of them will volunteer to marry the king -- and surrender her life.

To everyone's relief and horror, one young woman steps forward. The daughter of a legendary storyteller, Shahrazad believes it is her destiny to accept this risk and sacrifice herself.

On the night of her wedding to the king, Shahrazad begins to weave a tale. Fascinated, the king lets her live night after night. Just when Shahrazad dares to believe that she has found a way to keep her life -- and an unexpected love -- a treacherous plot will disrupt her plan. Now she can only hope that love is strong enough to save her.

I think it's lovely to have a fairytale where a main character is blind.

Cameron Dokey masterfully reminded me that there is a great difference between telling a story and storytelling. Her words flowed beautifully and created a vivid dream that I was loath to wake up from. I would recommend this book to just about anyone I meet, even going so far as becoming that weird person in a bookstore saying "Oh that one is gorgeous!" to strangers. Tip of the hat to Dokey for this lovely work!

Very clever retelling of the Arabian Nights. The "Once Upon a Time" is a great series which my daughter and I are both enjoying. We hope Simon Pulse will continue to publish these tales.

What a refreshing twist on an old story!!
Great writing, fun and absorbing read.
I was surprised at how much I liked it, as I thought maybe it was written for young readers. Great for any age!

This is definitely one of my favorite books from the collection. Lost my copy a few years ago and couldn't find a new one. Glad I found it

But wow—does this book ever need proofreading and copy editing! Scrambled sentences and missing apostrophes in possessive nouns are distracting.

Another great story by Cameron. Having never understood Arabian Nights, I grew to love this story and the way the characters flowed and changed through time. I would have liked more development of Sharazad, but overall I liked this story. And I can see all young people enjoying this book.

I found this book delightful. I enjoyed the approach that tells the background of the storyteller's daughter by herself quite refreshing and enjoyable.
