K.L Loveley is an exciting new author from Nottinghamshire, in England. Her debut novel 'Alice' is at times, a gritty but true to life story of a woman who finds herself in desperate straits.

The author's love of writing began with a gift of a five year lock up diary at the age of seven and she has never stopped writing since. In addition to writing novels, the author writes poetry and will be sharing some of these on her blog.

She lives with her husband in a quaint village in Nottinghamshire and enjoys walking and cycling in the famous Sherwood Forest. The author and her husband own a narrowboat, and spend time navigating the British waterways. She spends many cosy evenings on her boat writing additional novels which will be released in the future.

To date, the author has enjoyed 40+ years working as a Nurse for the NHS , the latter twenty years as a Practice nurse in Primary care. During this time she has gained valuable knowledge and skills, which she has been able to transfer and use in her writing when related to medical and social issues.

K.L Loveley is a prolific reader, and reads a wide variety of genres. Some of her favourite bestselling authors include, Joanne Harris, Jodi Picoult, Marian Keyes, John le Carré, Maeve Binchy , Jojo Moyes and Philippa Gregory. She actively reviews the books that she reads on her blog klloveley.com and on GoodReads.

The author uses a pen name, K.L Loveley, aka Katie Lily Loveley. She felt compelled to use these names of her female ancestors, as a unique way of keeping their memory alive. Katie Loveley was the birth name of her maternal great grandmother. Lily, the Christian name of her paternal Grandmother. Alice, the main protagonist of her debut novel, was the name of her maternal grandmother. However, all of the characters in her stories are purely fictional.

She is currently working on a new novel which she hopes to publish in the near future.

This book is the story of a family of a child with Asperberger's Syndrome. Although we don't learn exactly what makes Alfie so different until he is a college student, I had a strong suspicion much sooner based on his behaviors and his feelings.
The book has chapters from the point of view of Grace (the mother), Alfie (the child) and Paul (the father). I loved the chapters from Alfie's point of view as an infant and toddler--they were definitely a new perspective on things.
Reading all the challenges this family went through over the years and seeing how each of them dealt with those challenges (too much trying to keep things from the others, in my opinion!), was a deeply emotional experience.
The ending is very realistic, giving the reader hope for Alfie's future without tying everything up in a neat little bow.
I received an ARC of this work from the author and publisher, with no expectation of a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Love, Secrets, and Absolution was such a moving and poignant book. It is the tale of a family torn apart because of the son Alfie's autism, his mother Grace's devotion and defense of him while everyone else (including his father) says Alfie is just not "quite right". Told from alternating viewpoints, starting with Alfie as an infant, and progressing with him up through college, it is a unique look at what autistic kids and families with a member afflicted go through. It starts at a time when not as much was known about autism, so Alfie does not get diagnosed until he is in college. So for most of his journey through childhood into adult, no one really understood what he was going through or why he did the things he did. I was emotionally effected by this book and would recommend it to anyone.

It was ok it was not gripping and at times it simply didn’t flow. Writing was basic and predictable

The journey into the life of a boy with Aspergers syndrome and the love and devotion of his mother to give him the tools to survive & succeed is definitely worth reading. It will give you a true understanding of unconditional love and you will not be so quick to judge others.

There were times when I admired how Grace stood by and supported Alfie. The only sort of down side is that the characters whose point of views were written about were sort of similar; there wasn't really an outsider's point of view. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

I felt the story line was interesting but the style of writing and the errors detracted from the plot. Taught instead of taut, illiterate instead of elaborate to name but a few. The author tried too hard to make the characters 'speak well' and use a varied vocabulary but it fell flat as a result of the incorrect words used and the dialogue ended up sounding clunky and unnatural.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely read with very interesting characters

Lovely story, with very interesting characters. I was actually a bit said, when the book finished - as the story is very realistic, one can get the feeling, that Alfie could be the boy next door - and you want to know what happened to the family later?? All in all the reader get a very good insight about life with Asperger's, and what it meant 30-40 years ago? I found it a thoroughly enjoyable read, and could't wait to get back to my book at the end of the day. Well done K.L Lovely, hope you have many more ideas and continue to share your stories with us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed it
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 22, 2017
This book took me on a whirlwind of emotions, at times I found it to be extremely well written and the story was so well thought through and planned, it was clearly evident that the author loves and cares about the subject in this book.

I know a few people with Asperger's Syndrome and I know how well they cope, but also how hard it can be, and how difficult it has been in the past for them - this book is set back in the 1980s when there was not the same understanding and acceptance as there is today and the story really does make you think - the book is a touching one.

Grace and Alfie are great characters and I loved how the story was told through them - four stars from me, a really well written story!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read with a story with a difference.

An emotional insite to the life and a family dealing with Asperger’s Syndrome.
I had a little difficulty at the start of the book with Alfie still in the womb and describing his experience, I couldn’t see where this was leading but it was crucial to understanding the path that Alfie’s life was to take.
This is a great read with a story with a difference. I have no hesitation in recommending Loves, Secrets and Absolution.
