Good quality for a basic set and super cool for a travel set
Overall, I am pleased with the pencils, and the quality seems good. The pencil casings are very smooth wood, and are well made with no splits or rough texture. The color is painted onto the end of the pencil, and I found the painted color to be a bit darker than the actual lead. The names of the colors are written in Chinese and English in the top of the tin. The names appear in the order that the pencils are arranged in the tin. There are no numbers or names written in English on the pencils. There is something in Chinese, but since I do not speak nor read that language I have no idea what it says. I labeled each pencil so that when if I accidentally mix them up in the tin, I will know what color I used previously. The pencils sharpen okay if one has a good sharpener. I used a small handheld one, and had no problem with breakage. Rule of thumb: Make sure the blades on your sharpener are sharp. Using a graphite pencil once in a while helps remove some of the colored pencil build-up. The thing that I really liked is that I was able to color quite a bit of a design before my pencils needed to be sharpened again. There is a decent assortment of colors which is good for a starter or basic set. I do like that there are three shades of blues and greens. I color lots of nature scenes and like a variety of shades in those colors. A few of the colors are very similar. For instance, the chrome yellow and the yellow aren’t too different. The color goes down fairly smooth. Blending is okay, and I do like the way they layer. Nice. I found that some of the colors seem to be creamier than others. Once in a while the creamier ones are a bit scratchy, and then smooth again. I did not experience a waxy build-up like I sometimes do with my Prismacolor Premiers.A nice hinged tin provides a safe home for the pencils which are arranged in a single layer. I like that because one layer is so much easier to deal with and it takes up less space on a desk top etc. The tin, measured in inches, is 7 ¾ wide x7¼ high x 3/8 deep. This is nice for a pick-up and go outing or for a travel tin.I think it would be nice if the gold and silver were replaced with more usable and versatile colors. I use gold and silver in gel pens quite often; however, I seldom ever use those colors in colored pencils.

I don't want to compare these to any other wax based color pencil.
Pros: Packaged in a tin container, Sharpens nicely with electric sharpener, Blends great (see image, most is blended one way or another), No waxy bloom (waxy build up), Not a lot of dusty residue

Cons: Slightly pricey, No color name or number listed on the color pencil (but is on the inside of the lid), doesn't stay "sharp" for long but does color detailed areas when sharpened, Red is nice, but has a slight pinkish tint

Overall I would purchase again and would recommend

I'm very impressed with these Tombow Recycled colored pencils! I believe the "Recycled" refers to the wood casings and not the cores. I bought these (set of 24), on a whim because they're by Tombow and the price was so good. I already had the Tombow Irojiten pencils and was very impressed with their quality. The color lays down very easily and they're very pigmented. They actually feel and behave like pricier artist-grade pencils. I don't believe Tombow currently offers any Lightfast ratings on these pencils. I like the colors that were chosen. The biggest surprise I had with these is how beautifully and easily they blend! They also layer very well. I haven't been counting, but I've been able to get many, many layers with these. They hold a point well - I like using mine for coloring mandalas and for quick sketches, etc. when I want to save on my artist grade pencils. With such nice blending capabilities, you'll easily get much more than 24 colors with this set. These come in a nice metal tin box, although it's a bit hard to tell from the picture(s.) I sharpen my colored pencils with a helical sharpener which worked great on these. At such a low price, these would make a wonderful gift especially with a nice pad of paper or an adult coloring book. They are also a very good set and size - the case has a very slim profile - to travel with, keep in the car, or to throw into a backpack.

There is something about a Tombow product that shouts Quality. I purchased a full set of Irojiten pencils and fell in love. But I wanted something to travel with and thought that this might be perfect. These are my favorite pencils......Unbelieveable. I own, Irojiten(Love the hardness here.). Luminance by Caran d'Ache, Faber-Castell Polychromos, Prismacolor Premier, Lyra and more. So, I own soft, hard, oil and wax based top of the line artist quality supplies. These are just as good. I took a chance. I tried them. I bought 3 more 24 pc. sets, just so I'd have them when the price rises..........And it already has. These are easily some of the creamiest, most well made pencils I own. If they say they are artist quality and lightfast, I believe it. Tombow has always proved to be good to their word. Stock up on these while you can. They are all that is advertised. Great cedar casing, well balanced for comfort and centered, sharpen to an extremely fine point, don't bloom easily, don't break, lay down as creamily as Prisma and have a soft, clean, vibrant color. I can even get a rich watercolor like shimmer from these. The color selection is perfect for mixing. I only added 4 colors of my choice but could have mixed/layered for any shade I chose. I can't wait to see what colors they add when the line is expanded.

Took me awhile to warm to these, but now I like them very much - tones tend to be lighter than prismas, but color is good. Since i like light colors, that works. The pencils do not have the color name in English, but the tin has them in the kanji along with the English, so you can study that chart and match them up if you want to. They are in order in the tim with the list on the inside of the tin.

Good start out range of colors at 24. These do not blend as nicely as softer, more expensive pencils. I use a blender pencil and it creates a more intense-looking solid color. For the price, a reasonable starter set to see if you LOVE coloring as an adult, but later you might want to upgrade to a pricier, softer pencil.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all are lightfast.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 19, 2018
After doing my own basic lightfast test the pink and voilets showed fading after only two weeks, this will only matter to your art work if it is exposed to light, if however you use them for colouring books or art journaling you should be fine. They hold their point well and blend without to much effort. I brought mine for just less than £11 pounds so don't feel I've lost to much but have seen them go for nearly £30 which is in my opinion over priced and better quality coloured pencils are available.
