Bummer!!, defective from Software all the way to Hardware
Update 9/1/17- I received the replacement within a week and Netgear sent me a brand new in original sealed box of the router, I decided not to open it and I just sold the router instead, because I have already been using the Google Wifi for a month while I was waiting for Netgear to fix/replace the router.I wish they would have been a little more speedy at fixing/replacing the router, I don't think I will purchase Netgear products anymore after this.here are a few things Netgear needs to address with my issues on this:1. They should provide a return label for you to return the defective Product, I had to pay for the router to be sent back to Netgear, even though I only owned the Router for a month. They did offer me to pay $12-$25 to have them send me the replacement router first really quick, but why? I just bought the router a month ago and now I gotta pay more out of pocket to get it replaced? not good service there.2. make customer service a little more speedy at responding to messages on the Netgear site, I emailed them status of things and I didn't hear back for 4 days, thats crazy long, support needs improvement.3. Quality Control, they need to check everything on each router before they package them up, I can't believe how defective this router was from software all the way to Hardware.thats just my opinion on the issues.I am very happy with my Google Wifi, and I will not be going back to Netgear anymore. They lost a customer for life.Update 8/11/17-This router keeps dropping the internet throughout the day around 6-7 times a day, the internet would just drop from the Orbi router, as soon as it happens I would connect to the router through the Ethernet to go and see the Router logs as to what caused the internet to drop and I noticed that the Router Constantly receives DoS (Denial of Service) attacks, and I'm assuming that's what caused my router to totally disconnect from the internet, I would also log directly into the modem (Arris Surfboard) and make sure all the numbers were perfect and the modem was fine and still connected to Time Warner while the router was still disconnected from the internet, I did everything to narrow it down as to what caused the random internet drops, I downgraded the firmware on the Orbi, I switched out both the Cable that was connected to the wall and also switched the Ethernet cable that was connected from the modem to the Orbi, I even called Netgear and they guided me in checking more things with the router. Even the reset button on the back of the Orbi did not work, so Netgear is sending me a replacement, I am awaiting the replacement and will post a update when I receive it,But for now I purchased a Google Wifi and it's awesome!!Original Review-I have owned many different routers in my time and has see how technology has improved greatly.I wanted to purchase the Orbi Router by itself without the additional satalite as I live in a 900 square foot cottage, I am really impressed how the speed of the Orbi is consistent, I do wish there was a Ability to have a separate bands for the 2Ghz and the 5Ghz with its own dedicated name, so that I can prioritize which device uses which band, but so far so good, I have 8 devices connected to it and I subscribe to Time warner with 100Mbps/10Mbps and so far so good.just the router alone itself provides a really strong signal, I had to lower the power of the router because it was reaching so far that I don't need it to be that far.I recommend this router. 5 stars!!
