About this item
- [60 COLORS SET] ZIG Clean Color Real Brush is a brush type watercolor pen, so it can be used in a wide range of applications such as illustration, design, lettering, and Manga. Because it is a water-based dye ink, you can blur it with water or mix with other real brush colors or blender. The pens are not individually shrink wrapped.
- [DIVERSE APPLICATION] Hold the pen upright to draw a fine line or hold the pen at an angle to color wider areas. When combined with a water brush, you can easily express blurring. Wet the tip of the pen slightly with water to produce multiple gradations of one color.
- [REAL BRUSH] Multiple colors can be combined to create gradations. First, start by applying a darker color, and before it dries, add another color over it to create a color gradation. It is ideal for watercolor, fine art, modern calligraphy, crafts, Journaling, card making, and scrapbooking. In addition, you can apply a darker-colored ink directly to the tip of a light-colored pen to create a gradation when drawing with the lighter color.
- [Certification] Xylene-free, conforms to ASTM D 4236, ACMI-certified for safety, registered AP mark for sale in the United States.
- [HIGH QUALITY] Flexible nylon brush tip makes it easy to create both narrow and wide lines. Great brush pens for watercolor painting, brush lettering, modern calligraphy and more. In 1973, Kuretake developed "Kuretake Fude Pen" and has developed various brush pen since then. Since the development of brush pen technology also applies to the ZIG Clean Color Real Brush, it has become a high-quality watercolor brush pen.

Just for reference my paper is the Canson XL 98lb mixed media notebook. I think it's important to know what paper others are working with when writing a review because watercolor works different with each brand and paper weight. In my experience the pens are crazy easy to work with and I find that I work better with these than watercolor paint and it fits my style better. So, if you like to color in your own drawings these are perfect. I also, think these would work very well for people who want to watercolor with coloring books.
I'll upload a pallet of each color. The circles symbolize areas of color straight from the pen with no water added and the rectangles are modified with water from a water brush pen. Yes, there are two colors with the same name "oatmeal" and I accidently put aside the neon colors and forgot to add them in so I made a separate page for them. I love these. For my style it's the easiest way to get the colors and textures I need with minimal set up.
Tldr: I'm really enjoying these and I'm very happy with my purchase. Already recommended them to a few friends. If I knew I was going to enjoy these so much I would have gone with a bigger set.

I've tried many different watercolor mediums from watercolor crayons, other watercolor markers and watercolor pencils. These are at the top of the list for quality and vibrancy.
The assortment of the 60 color set is fantastic. The brush tips are smooth and can do very fine lines to wide brush strokes. The colors are vivid and deeply concentrated. A little color goes a long way.
They blend beautifully. But what really amazed me was how they dried. Other watercolor mediums I've used dry dull and washed out no matter how many layers of color are applied. The Kuretake Clean Color brush colors dry bright and clear and beautiful. These are very impressive and were worth every penny. I would be these again in a heartbeat.
You will want to make yourself a color chart, however. Since the colors are shown in plastic they can be quite misleading. I've attached a picture of how I labled mine with a hole punch and a drop of glossy accents to hold in place. I just painted a swatch on watercolor paper, going back over it with a water pen to feather out the color, and punched it out with a standard hole punch after dry. The top has a perfect cavity for this this. Now I always now what color it is and how it will blend.
These pens are perfect for the watercolor paper printed images that are available now for adult coloring or card making with very fine detail. Do yourself a favor and get a set!
I also added several photos just to show the detail you are able to achieve with these watercolors. These are the ADORNit coloring pages.

I much prefer water-based than alcohol, and the colour range of these is amazing. They also blend so beautifully. The brush is smooth and fine, so getting into the details is possible in ways that other pens simply can't achieve.
The colours are quite rich, so it's worth getting the blender if you like using paler colours or blending out to a fade. Watercolour pens work well with these too, however, I've found the blender to be the best when aiming for a smooth, even diluted colour.
The quality of paper makes a HUGE difference, and I've found them to blend well on smooth cardstock or ivory paper if in colouring books (like the paper in Johanna Basford's books). They also work really well on watercolour paper, however much more ink is used and I've found I have less control with blending because the paper absorbs so much ink so quickly. Using them on wet watercolour paper is also good but they very much behave similar to watercolour paint, in that you're best to allow the ink to do it's own thing and go with its flow, than try to control it too much.
I've found it best to dab colours to blend and play with on an acrylic or silicone palette, then use my blending marker or a water brush to apply to the page when I want to apply or blend with lighter or diluted dark shades.
The skin tones you see in the image I've shared are not included with this set but can be purchased separately in the portrait set (6). I also used watercolour pencils to complement some of the colours I used from the 60 set.
