Good product for a beginner coffee enthusiast
The grinder arrived in its original KitchenAid box in good condition. The brushed steel finish is a little coarser to the touch than my other brushed steel appliances, but this is not visible to the eye so it doesn't mismatch. The grinder seems sturdy and of good make. The plastic lid is clear and ~3mm thick (~1/8 in).For my first use, I ground whole coffee beans up to the " Min - 4" mark on the cup, which is about a third of the way full. As others reviews have noted, a small amount of grounds ended up in the space between the cup and the lid, and under the cup. I suppose grinding more beans would result in more grounds outside the cup. I ground the beans for 14 seconds as recommended in the user's manual for that amount of beans and I got a mixture of fine and coarse particles, which I could distinguish more clearly in the paper filter after brewing the coffee. Even then, no grounds made it through the filter and the coffee turned out clear.The cup is also brushed steel, and it's easily removable and top-rack, dishwasher safe. The grounds under the cup can be easily cleaned by blowing them out, or with a brush or cloth.I imagine for coffee snobs these issues would be deal breakers, but this is a good enough product for a beginner coffee enthusiast like me.
