After every chapter, I couldn't stop wondering who was guilty and who was not. This was the kind of book that has me staying up all hours of the night and sacrificing sleep just to punch me in the face with a cliffhanger. But you know what, I freaking loved it.I absolutely enjoyed this story and SERIOUSLY can't wait to read Murder Girl. “There’s a reason it’s usually someone you love who kills you.”

This is a step away from Lisa Renee Jones’s norm, this is a fully-fledged thriller that had me frantically turning pages while trying to connect dots in the vain hope of trying to fathom out what was going on…a true sign of a great one. There is a romantic undertone, don’t get me wrong, but at the moment, that is an undercurrent, the real meat of this book is a serial killer that seems to have a point to prove to our FBI woman, Lilah Love.

Lilah Love is an enigma, it is obvious she has a lot of baggage but her cold heart and ambivalence makes her hard to warm up to in the first instance. However, as the book progresses you begin to understand her and her mannerisms. Lilah is a total badass, she can more than handle herself and the way her mind works is fascinating. It takes a brave person to take her on and even braver to try and blackmail her with secrets she definitely doesn’t want uncovered.

“It bleeds because you bleed.”

The anticipation of her love connection, with Kane, is one that had my heart thrumming and this man is one hell of an enigma too. There is obviously a lot of history between these two and it is that and the ultimate chance of a second chance romance that definitely has me wanting more. But, is he all he seems? For me, I do believe he loves Lilah and has never stopped and despite his cool, calm demeanour, I am sure that Lilah is the only one that thaw and floor him. There is definitely a love/hate thing going on and for two people that were so close…what happened to separate them?

The action in this book is what really keeps the pages turning and being a crime programme aficionado, this book was definitely right up my alley. A cross between Criminal Minds and CSI, this book has a touch of everything for us crime junkies and Lisa Renee Jones did an amazing job of keeping the suspense up, the reader captivated and that forever anticipation. I cannot wait for the next book in this series, it seriously cannot come quick enough.

Murder Notes by Lisa Renee Jones is the first book in her Lilah Love series. A murder mystery told from the perspective of FBI Special Agent Lilah Love with a cliffhanger ending that will leave you excited for more but not quite ready to throw your kindle/ereader/paperback. There is an underlying romance from her past that shows it's head but the main focus of the story is the crimes and how, as they all start being pieced together, keep pointing to Lilah and a secret in her past.

Lilah is tough. She has to be in order to do her job, that of FBI Profiler and a frequent visitor to horrific crime scenes. She grew up in the Hamptons with a police chief father and movie star mother and her brother and herself both went into law enforcement. She could have the easy life in the Hamptons but she is a hard working, ambitious woman. Not to mention that the West Coast is about as far away as she could get after the "incident".

It is this "incident" that pulls her back to the Hamptons and her past when a murder there links to two in LA and another in Manhattan. As she slowly starts to unravel the details of the case she gets embroiled in family drama, plot twists, potential betrayal and the focus of a stalker with a penchant for leaving behind semi-threatening notes Lilah is sure have to do with her secret that only one other person should know, Kane Mendez. He also happen to be on the suspect list for the Hamptons murder.

Rich in detail and plot twists this story will keep you engaged throughout, have you laughing at Lilah's snark and attitude, and second-guessing every potential suspect on her list. Loved this! Up next, book two - Murder Girl.

I loved the badass personality of Lilah that is balanced out with her hints of femininity. She is a hunter that enjoys her vintage Louis Vuitton wardrobe. I loved how she acknowledges that she does better with dead people than with the living as there are some days that I can relate. There are lots of twists in this story with all the different characters and potential suspects (even family members) only for it all to end with a cliff hanger! Can’t wait to start book 2, Murder Girl.
