Summary: This lens is an excellent budget option. An 18mm equiv is super versatile when you need wide angle, but not so wide that things get crazy. I carry it everywhere with my camera now, along with the 35/1.8 and 55-210.Good:Price: Obviously. For wide angle E-mount lens, under $300 is amazing; the Sony 10-18 would set you back $750, and it can't shoot at f/2. I haven't tried other Rokinon lenses yet, but it doesn't seem like this price can be beat.Build Quality: Is plasticky, but very durable. Mine has taken quite a few knocks with no visible dents or scratches. It feels solid. It's also surprisingly compact for a wide-angle. Physically it is about the same size as the 35/1.8 only the front bulges outward. The lens cap and hood fit very tightly.Image Quality: Is superb at the price point, with one drawback (chromatic aberration: see below). It is sharp and performs extremely well in low-light. I couldn't see any distortion in the images whatsoever. The ability to shoot at f/2 is obviously great, especially at night. I feel comfortable shooting at f/2, but the sharpness really peaks around f/4-5.6. The manual focusing doesn't get in the way, either. In most cases (if you're more than 3 feet away from your subject), you can set it to infinity and forget about it.Bad:Chromatic Aberrration: This is my major complaint about the lens. At night C.A. becomes quite noticeable even without pixel peeping. At f/2 it's at its worse, but it's still visible down to f/8 and beyond. It's probably correctable in Photoshop, but still an annoyance.Focusing Ring: Is uncomfortably stiff. I feel like I'm straining the mount whenever I rapidly change focus. The focus at infinity is also not all the way to the right, but very slightly left of that. This is easy to get used to, though.Manual: It's a completely manual lens, like all other Rokinons. That means you won't get any EXIF data on your photos. For example, I have to take my best guess from memory for aperture I used for the photos below (although it's usually f/2).Let's look at some photos. (Note: I am not a very good photographer)The first shows the worst of the C.A. Without even zooming I can see purple edges on the rafters. I could have made conditions better for myself by lowering the ISO or stopping it down but isn't the whole point to be able to shoot wide open? (ISO 2000, 1/80 sec, f/2)The second shows what a close up shot looks like. It is difficult to get bokeh from a wide-angle lens and this is about the best I could do. In this picture the lens is about 12 inches away from the drum! (ISO 1600, 1/80 sec, f/2)The third displays some flare coming in from an extremely bright sun. If I had used a filter, or just rotated left, it wouldn't be nearly as visible. (ISO 100, 1/500 sec, f/8)The last is just a photo I thought was nice, and confirmed that I had made a good choice in purchasing this lens. (ISO 1600, 1/200 sec, f/2)Conclusion: get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Northern Lights & Milky Way Friendly.
Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2015
Great value for the price. I purchased lens to work in conjunction with my Sony NEX-5t for night time photography. Although I am still learning the lens in terms of finding the perfect infinity focus (most lenses actual infinity focus is just back from the hard stop setting), on only my second outing to photograph the Aurora Borealis the lens worked very well. I was amazed the amount of light which was captured, which in turn allowed me to shorten the exposure times dramatically and better capture the Northern Lights.

These two photos were taken the night of October 3rd with my Rokinon on a remote lake in northern Minnesota. The settings in both instances were an ISO of 3200, F2 and 1 second for the first image and 2 seconds for the second.

    Update: August 10, 2016

After using this lens for even more night photography sessions, I am even more pleased. However, it is important to note that true infinity focus for this lens is NOT the hard stop infinity setting. The best spot for me appears to be just a hair to the left of the infinity symbol on the lens. Having now made this adjustment, my northern lights images have improved. In addition, I have been pleasantly surprised to learn this camera allows me to take Milky Way photos w/o the need for stacking images. Very cool. I will add a few pics I just took this August in northern Minnesota near the Canadian border. The lens was up to the task ... including capturing a unique Aurora 90 minutes before dawn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent lens for the price.
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2016
This is a good lens for the price. I have made good use of it.
    Pros:
    Good sharpness
    Decent Price
    Compact size
Nice feel of Focus and Aperture rings.
The lens hood is nice and fits well.
Low distortion for such a wide angle lens.
It's FAST. Shooting in daylight is a breeze. It was so fast in daylight, I never had to worry about shutter speed.

    Cons:
    Two words: Chromatic Aberration.
All manual. No data is reported back to the camera
The fit isn't solid. It wiggles in it's mount after it's been snapped on.

Conclusion: 3.5/5. If it fit snugly and didn't have such extreme chromatic aberration, I would have rated it a 5. The idea of this lens is that it sacrifices electronics for visual quality and build quality. It failed to achieve this in my opinion. The sharpness is at least as good as kit lenses that came with my a6000. I just expected a little more from this lens.
To be fair, I do use this lens for professional work. I will continue to use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2017
This lens is excellent and really good value. Extremely sharp, nice and fast. Manual focus, but the lens is so wide that focus rarely needs to be adjusted. Really good contrast in color. Great landscape and Astro lens.

Build is high quality, nice heavy solid feel, good positive clicks on the aperature and smooth focus ring. Bayonet type petal hood. Size is manageable for such a fast lens. Things to note: this is a 100% manual lens, so no communication with camera. That means that every thing is done on the lens and no data is transferred to the camera, or saved in the exif data of the image. Also, this is for a crop sensor camera. While it will fit on a full frame camera like an A7, there will be a huge amount of vignetteing that will need to be cropped out.

Overall I am extremely pleased with this lens paired with my a6000, and it has become my go-to lens for astrophotography and landscape shots.

Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2018
I bought this lens for a trip I took. The lens seemed to work ok and I have other manual lenses so I figured this would be a good addition. When you are taking the pictures, they look great in the camera screen. However, once you transfer them to your phone or computer, you can see that they are very soft, even if you are at the infinity focus on the dial. I tried to change the focus to see if it would solve the problem but the pictures still came out blurry. Maybe I got a bad lens but none of the adjustments I made were able to get me a sharp picture.

Good field of view. Cost was in my range. Details / texture can look somewhat flat. Images shown are a RAW file and the same image with Lightroom adjustments. Focus can be tricky. During my first shoot at the beach testing out my new lens, I had many out of focus images when attempting close-ups (less than 1 m / 3 ft from my lens). It's a learning curve to get a handle on a manual focusing lens again. You get spoiled with auto-focus:)

As mentioned in the title, this lens is so playful and friendly. You can simply throw anything at it and it won't fight back.

I'm more than impressed with the IQ. This lens just delivers every single time without any drama at all. Aperture and focus rings are so pleasant to use, it's no SUMMILUX-M, but I like it better than ANY of my Sony GM and Canon L lens.

I only had it for less than 10 hours and can't wait to take it with me hiking when we are allowed to travel again. I know I will be impressed.

    Update:
I'm thoroughly impressed by this lens's optical quality. ZERO complains whatsoever. Added a new picture.
