This story teaches us that kindness, caring, and sincerity can make a big impact on the people around us. It also gives a message to belief in God. God has given us the best gift which is our lives and we must be grateful for that. Frankly, we are no one to judge a classic; they are called classics for a reason. This was a pleasant, heart-warming and a feel-good read.

We purchased this book in order my daughter to read and write a book report about the virtues and Christian-values through her Catholic Home School program. We chose this copy of the book because it was original and unabridged. Both my daughter and I read the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is so superbly well-written, with bits of anticipation and humor along the way. Heidi is about an orphaned girl in Switzerland, whose aunt took care of her until she obtained a better job, and decided it was Heidi's grandfather's turn to keep her. Heidi's grandfather lived up the mountain in a bit of remote area, with the town of Dorfli a trek away. Heidi meets Peter and his mother and grandmother and spends time with Peter, taking the goats to pasture. Heidi's aunt decided to later take her from the grandfather, who came to love her, to be come a companion to an "invalid" girl, Clara, in Frankfurt. Although Heidi is younger than Clara, Clara delights in the funny and inspiring things that Heidi says and does, and they become good friends. Heidi suffered terribly as she missed Grandfather and her life in the mountains, but came to know those in Clara's life, including her grandmother, who taught her to have hope and keep praying to God, and the kind, good-hearted doctor who took care of Clara. Heidi's simplicity, and the way she looked at life, made her long the matched simplicity of the mountains and life with Grandfather. No spoilers here, but good things happen in the story! The characters are very well-defined, and Heidi touches the hearts of all who meet her. If you have seen any versions of Heidi in movie form, you are missing a lot from the book. As much as I like Shirley Temple, the producers of the version she starred in did a disservice to original Heidi book -- it is like looking at a whole different movie. (Disney later came out with a much closer account of the Heidi book as a movie in later years.) Everyone who reads Heidi will enjoy it and walk away with something that touches them -- something to recall and remember as their favorite part of the book.

My seven-year-old daughter loves to read and I was eager to introduce her to the classics in English literature. I knew the original might be too daunting for her due to the high level vocabulary and have been looking around for a well-written adaptation that retains the essence of the original. The Stepping Stones Classic series of books for independent young readers fit the bill perfectly. These are abridged versions of the classics and are engaging without being too daunting for young readers who might otherwise be put off in attempting to tackle the original versions.

I make it a point to read these books before passing them on to my daughter to ensure she will be able to handle the language on her own and also to check the content. Gail Herman has done a commendable job on this adaptation. There are about 101 pages in this book and the chapters are brief. The language is not dumbed down, yet not too advanced for an independent young reader. There are black and white illustrations that engaged my daughter (a visual learner) and kept her attention throughout the two hours (collectively) or so she spent reading this book. The chapters are short and the plot keeps moving along, keeping the reader engaged. Highly recommended for independent young readers ages 6-9.

I read an abridged version of this well known story as a child and one chilly spring night decided to read it again. Within a few pages I was taken off to the alps with Heidi as she struggled up the long mountain trail bundled in too many clothes to meet her formidable grandfather. The magic of this simple story kept me reading late into the night. Sometimes revisiting childhood favorites is disappointing but this one was not. There are certainly some sour notes, some details are highly improbable, and at times the tone gets overly sweet or preachy but overall this is a very enjoyable tale that has held up very well.

The kindle edition of this was well done, no terrible formatting errors to distract from the narrative. There are no illustrations included in this version, leaving the reader to rely on their own imagination to picture the scenes Spyri has so vividly described. Maybe it is better that way.

I read it not so long ago for my 5th grade homeschool project, and it was one of the best books I have ever read. Johanna Spyri really showed what it meant to her to be faithful to God. Spyri's tale was the most elegant, beautiful, flowing tale I have ever read.

Heidi was so spectacular that I would definately like to rate it hundreds of stars; and I consider reading all of Spyri's books. I think Heidi is the perfect book for people of all ages and if you like books such as "Little House on the Prairie" you will love Heidi.

The setting is somewhere in Switzerland with all the Alps. I think reading this book made me want to go to Switzerland! Like I've said before, this book is very beautiful-- everything about it-- the setting, the story, the way the author writes it, it is pure beauty. I don't think I-- possibly you-- have read any book as good as this.

So, overall, this book is the most best book for anyone who loves life on the alm, faithfulness to God, and a nice beautifully-written tale. This tale made me very amazed and happy at Johanna Spyri's literature, and I guarentee it will to you too. Heidi is the best book in the whole world. Pure Literature and Pure beauty.

Heidi by Johanna Spyri is a literary gem that transcends generations, and this edition truly does it justice. I can't help but gush about how much I adore this heartwarming story!

From the moment I opened the pages of this book, I was transported to the idyllic Swiss Alps, where the charming Heidi and her adventures captured my heart. Johanna Spyri's storytelling is nothing short of enchanting, and her vivid descriptions painted such a clear picture that I could almost smell the alpine flowers and feel the mountain breeze.

What makes this edition particularly special is the care put into the presentation. The cover art is delightful, and the quality of the pages is top-notch. It's a book that feels as wonderful to hold as it is to read.

Heidi's story is a timeless tale of the healing power of nature, the importance of friendship, and the resilience of the human spirit. It's a book that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages, and I have no doubt that it will continue to be cherished for generations to come.

If you haven't had the pleasure of reading Heidi yet, I highly recommend picking up this edition. Whether you're revisiting an old favorite or discovering it for the first time, you won't be disappointed. It's a masterpiece that deserves a place on every bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Las aventuras de Heidi
Reviewed in Spain on April 24, 2023
