Great wrench, great price. Especially when considering all those years ago how much I paid ($200) on this, unto be named tool truck.
Advantages:
- Accuracy, the accuracy is quite impressive (+/- 4) which i personally think is very good because other reparable brands have the EXACT same accuracy. So you are getting the same accuracy for 5 times the price as other brands. I cannot exactly comment while using as i really do not notice a difference as my other one was complete jun. I do not know but it seems to do a well job holding up and by feel it seems to click upon reaching the desired torque.
- Durable, the body itself and the entire wrench seems and appears to be very durable. The entire body is metal and has nothing that could cause it to break, i am not saying to drop this because if you do then it will be out of calibration but by the feel of it, it seems to be very decent even for the price.
- Knurled grip, i personally like this feature as it provides better handling and grip while using the torque wrench. With my old one, it seemed it would slide out of your hand very easily which made holding it a challenge.
- Length, the length of the torque wrench is prefect. What i mean my that is, there are other 1/4 torque wrenches that are long, almost half or even more than your arm. It is ridiculous, but this one is not very long as it is comfortable to hold. It provides enough in length to torque up to the maximum torque (For an example, it is like taking a 1/2 in torque wrench with the length of this one and torquing a lug nut to 100 ft/lbs. It is different specs but same concept, it would be very challenging and hard to have it click. It is possible but the length is key, but in addition you would not want a torque wrench half the size of the car using it to torque the lug nuts. Just wouldn't make sense.)
- Case, it is uncommon for a torque wrench to come in a case (unless you are buying good quality.) My previous one came in a package with no case and was stapled together that's how cheap it was. The case it very durable, i am still not saying drop it but if it does happen it will most like provide some impact on to the case and not the torque wrench.
- Price, for the quality, accuracy, and the case and everything else you are getting the price isn't horrible. It is actually very cheap for what you are getting and i think it is well worth the price.
Disadvantages:
- Screw type lock, all my torque wrench have a click type lock where you depress it and can rotate it up or down to the desired torque and release it and it locks. It makes for quicker operation but on this one the lock is at the bottom and is a screw type lock meaning when you rotate unscrew the lock at the bottom then turn the body to the desired torque then tighten the lock screw at the bottom. I have found it does become a pain in the a** if you need to do it quick but i can live it with it as it isn't a huge deal.
Overall, i am finding that this torque wrench is really good. I am liking it more every use and didn't break the bank trying to purchase it. I can go on and on about how much then same torque wrench is comparing other brands. If your looking for a torque wrench then you might as well stop looking because you have found out. This is a cheap but well constructed torque wrench and is worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this torque wrench to anyone.
I have 3 motorcycles, and always needed and wanted good quality small size torque wrench.
I went to Canadian Tire and many local hardware stores but could not find.
Yup, this is the one! Great quality and small size that I makes me free from over torquing.
Even comes with case and conversion instruction.
Yup, it's made in Tiwan. It got me concerned, but now I know they make good tools~
No regret at all, it worth every penny that I spent!
However, the metric scale (Nm) is just a direct conversion of the in.lb scale, so it has very awkward markings (like 3.05 and 4,67 Nm). If they had just offset the marking lines slightly downwards then the metric scale would have had proper markings (e.g 3.0, 4,0 Nm,etc...) which would make it much easier to use.
Lock nut should able lock the torque setting witth more force to avoid accidental rotation of the setting collar.
Top reviews from other countries
As previous guys here in the UK have mentioned before in some reviews, this torque wrench is specifically designed for the American market and is therefore geared towards the Imperial system as oppose to the Metric one that we use here in Europe and other parts of the world.
However, this did not put me off from purchasing the Torque Wrench as I needed a 1/4 size one to compliment my tool set. As a regular user of tools and the measurements required with those, I had no issues myself doing the conversions for the exact settings. I can understand though that some people may actually be put off from purchasing this tool for that reason alone.
Other reviewers had also noted that a calibration certificate is not being issued with the device, which I can confirm is true, but luckily I managed to test my device with other similar devices that some of my friends own and it was near enough spot on during these tests. This is possibly the only negative I would of given towards the purchasing of this product, but any recalibration of this device can actually be achieved quite easily via the way the wrench is built and designed, whilst there are loads of YouTube videos out there to show you. If your not competent enough to do this yourself, then please use the services of a professional service to do this for you.
The measurement scale settings via the instructions are provided should you experience any issues or difficulties trying to work out the conversions from IN-LB to Nm. As with most if not all torque wrenches unless specified, make sure that when not in use, that they are stored at the lowest settings possible to maintain and keep their accuracy.
I done some research about the Tekton company in general for a couple of days reading online forums namely Auto and Tools related ones, before going full tilt and making the purchase. In all fairness I can't be more happier and satisfied with the choice that I made. Tekton the company themselves offer a lifetime guarantee on their products and tools which is an excellent added bonus, and thankfully I will not need to contact them in the foreseeable future!!! Regarding their return procedure its just a case of taking photos and proof of purchase via email and they deal with the rest.
I have included some photos of the product along with the inbuilt measurement scale settings on both sides of the wrench as well as the instructions that came with the whole package etc...

Por ponerle un "pero", instrucciones solo en ingles😉
Though it does have the nm measurements also marked on the other side, it really has very odd intervals, so you are just left with coverting and calculating.
The product otherwise seems pretty good and is well finished. But a torque wrench's job is to give me correct torque, and it makes it very difficult to get it correct on this one
