"Tess of the D'Ubervilles" è l' ultimo romanzo d'un' epoca, significativo e interessante sulla condizione femminile di quel tempo e sulla follia di grandezza di una coppia umile. L'arroganza dei "parvenus" non manca. Ci sono tutti gli ingredienti per fare un buon romanzo ottocentesco.
