Combining an area light with four portable lanterns in a single clever unit, the Coleman LED Quad lantern is a versatile choice for indoor or outdoor use. The Quad is equipped with four removable LED panels that hold 24 LED lights total. Users can remove any of the four panels and use them independently, such as when needing a portable light for the bathroom or tent, or they can keep all four attached to the lantern and produce 190 total lumens of light. As a result, the Quad is the perfect light for group camping trips and any other occasion where folks might splinter off into smaller groups during the night. Each of the panels is a fully functioning light, with six 5mm white LEDs, a rechargeable NiMH battery, an independent on/off switch, and a top handle for carrying or hanging. The NiMH battery--which recharges when stored in the lantern base--provides up to 1.5 hours of light on its own. The lantern base, meanwhile, requires eight D-cell batteries (not included), which provide an approximate run time of 75 hours for the entire lantern. Other features include a main on/off switch located on top of the lantern, a light range of 26 feet, and a limited five-year warranty.
About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.
In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

** update 11/01/2012 **
I am updating this review after suffering the aftermath of hurricane Sandy. We got hit hard in Long Island, NY, and were without power for 4 days. I topped-off the rechargeable batteries that I keep in the base unit prior to the storm arriving, and this little gem provided light for my entire family for 4 days, without coming close to exhausting the batteries. Each panel puts out enough light for an entire room, and can be recharged by returning to the base. Never in the 4 days of constant use did any of the individual panels run out of power before being recharged at bedtime. I can't recommend this unit enough -- it has already paid for itself in terms of safety, peace of mind, and quality of life provided.
I would highly recommend these as a gift for your family or friends. These are excellent birthday, Father's Day or even Christmas gifts. It's a little heavy, but not too heavy. This would be great for camping or taking on a trip. One night, we were staying in a hotel and there was a heavy thunderstorm, and the hotel had a power outage for several hours. This would have been great because we were traveling by car. This would also be very nice for senior citizens because it really lights up a house. A family of four could each take the detachable flashlight and be able to see in a dark house. Also, if you're on the road a lot and your car breaks down at night, this would be really handy.
I lived in Florida for six years, and was there during the terrible 2004 - 2005 hurricane season and can tell you firsthand, don't be without at least one good lantern, some batteries, candles and canned goods. Storms in Florida can be really bad and you can sit in the dark for quite a while. Coleman has a winner with this lantern! I have checked other places, but Amazon continues to have the absolute best price on these lanterns.

いつも使用してるのではないのですが、今も故障もなく普通に使えるし、機能的には一つずつと取り外しても使用できるし、購入して良かったです。
Be noticed this lantern uses 8 D type batteries so it is quite heavy
The battery insertion process to the base is not simple because of thin plastic of large diameter bottom cover
Four handles of detachable pads looks very convenient to use them to move entire lantern - don't do this! Panel may accidentally be detached. The only small round handle at the middle of the light's top supposes to be used for lifting of lantern
I looked in great detail at the CPX Dual lantern and was quite impressed by most of the reviews apart from the odd tyre kicker ( Lets face it it's a lantern it's not gonna change your life). When i saw there was a quad version i assumed that 'bigger was better' and ordered it not reading all the reviews (my fault i know) and assuming it would also be a CPX lantern.
I was wrong!
However as i was bemoning my stupidity i decided to buy 8 unbranded D type batteries from Home Bargains at a reasonable price of £2.60 and see if the lantern could live up to its boasted 75hr runtime.
14 Hrs later it is still going strong (i'll let you know when it dies).
30hrs itck tock tick tock. About half as bright when used as an area lantern. Panels are still fully bright when detatched.
48hrs and the area lantern still emits a reduced glow but the panels are fully charged if detatached.
I'm impressed!
I may even keep it lol
