Update, this bike has been excellent in everyday use going on two months. The 25 one touch resistance levels are getting use as we are able to increase them as we progress. We also ordered the POLAR chest strap (get the uncoded one)and it links up to the telemetric enabled heart rate monitor with no drama. Regards
I thought that an update after six months of use would be helpful to some. This bike is still a joy! Easy to adjust with just the single lever between users. We have added some strips of tape on the rail so that different user position lock downs are quick and consistent. We also like that selecting users by name is quickly done, and your program starts automatically as soon as you begin to pedal. When your ride is over you push stop, and a cool down period begins that is optional. You can just walk away and it will turn itself off. My Kindle fits the book shelf and is steady for a good read that allows exercise time to pass before I know it which is a good thing. Regards
Pros:
1) Relatively simple to construct. The instructions were clear and it took about 1hr to assemble on my own.
2) The mechanics are great. It is quiet, the transition from resistance levels is seamless and it gives me a really great workout - which is the my main objective.
3) The construction is pretty solid. I've seen questions asking about if this is fit for commercial use. The answer is no. But that is not what is is designed for. For private use, it is perfect. I have only had it for a few weeks, so cannot comment on the longevity but my guess, from the quality of construction, is that it will last a while.
4) The resistance levels way exceeded my expectations. I have used domestic kit before and have been really disappointed with the level of resistance. With this beast I am struggling to cope with low to middle range settings - which is great. This kit covers all levels of fitness/strength. For people a engaging in this type of exercise for the first time it is also superb.
5) The customer support is excellent. This point will lead to some of the "cons" to follow, but the people I dealt with were wonderfully helpful and there was no problem with issuing replacement parts, all of which arrived within a week of my call to customer support.
Cons:
1) This is a small, but important one. I've seen questions about size (as in human size). I'm a leggy 6ft tall guy and am on the back stop. This ok for me, but I would worry if you are a tad more elongated.
2) After construction, everything worked fine apart from the heart rate monitor. The displayed BPM was complete garbage. Customer support was great and they sent me a new seat base (with the heart rate sensors) with no grief at all. This did not work. Again customer support was great and sent me a new console. Likewise did not work. At this point I dissembled the entire contraption and found the problem to be a bad connection in one of the audio jacks used heart rate monitor circuit which is embedded well within the assembly. The cable was connected ok, but just twisting the plug corrected the problem. This is not great design. I worry that it will fail again.
3) Final "con", and this is me being a technological Philistine. The programming is way too complicated. To get to the program I want I have step through multiple menus an have no clue which link leads to the next. Do I press "up", "down", "left", 'right", "ok" ... blah, blah... to get to where I want to go. In the age of Apple, this is not rocket science.
