The Nord Stage 2 EX updates the flagship Nord instrument line with doubled memory for the Nord Piano Library, plus a fresh new color scheme. The outstanding factory bank includes 5 grand pianos, 7 upright pianos, 11 electric pianos, clavinet and harpsichords. The Nord Stage 2 EX features the award winning Piano, Organ and Synthesizer technologies combined with a user-friendly interface, a choice of premium keybeds and an almost obsessive level of quality control. The Stage 2 EX has three sound generating sections; Piano, Organ and Synthesizer, all of which can be used simultaneously. Furthermore, the Nord Stage 2 EX has 2 separate slots allowing you to have 2 Pianos, 2 Organs and 2 Synths at the same time for massive sonic flexibility. Dedicated single-function knobs control all vital functions, and the Pitch Stick and Modulation Wheel allow maximum musical expression. The efficient Morph Grouping technique is also included, allowing you to assign sound and effects parameters to physical controllers. The Extern Section allows any MIDI-connected gear to seamlessly integrate with the Stage 2 EX's built-in instruments. Zones, splits and layers are handled exactly as if the external equipment was a part of the Stage 2 EX itself. All settings are saved together with a program so advanced setups can be immediately recalled in real-time during a performance. The Stage 2 EX 88 features a Hammer Action keybed (key-range A-C) with Nord's electronic LED drawbars. The Stage 2 EX truly sets itself apart as an instrument for the professional performing musician.

After much hand wringing over whether to purchase the Stage 2 HA76, I decided to get the lighter Stage 2 EX HP76 and I'm really happy with the purchase. At first I was a bit deflated with the feel of the keys. They felt a bit sluggish and not as responsive as I would have liked, and I was worried that I might have to return it. But after a few days logging in many hours playing, my mind has changed and I'm really enjoying playing on this instrument! The Fazioli (Italian Grand) is a joy to play and sounds equally great for classical or jazz, and of course any kind of rock, etc will sounds great as well.
The rest of the keyboard is essentially the same as the previous Stage 2 (not EX) models with few noticeable differences. The one big factor for me with the HP76 is the expanded piano memory, and the reduced weight. This is the best all around gigging keyboardist's instrument for someone living in a city using public transportation, although still a bit bulky and not a paperweight at 28 lbs. Still, it's a great all around keyboard!
Even though the stock patches for the synths are not amazing in and of themselves, there are a lot of things you can do with them, and with layering/split options, and multiple effects available, all adjustable in real time, it's a pretty inspiring instrument to play on. So if you're looking for an all around solution for a cover band or something that has more factory presets and patches, you might want to look at something a bit less expensive and more oriented towards those types of gigs. But for the overall package of sounds, feel, features, weight, and inspiration, I would highly recommend this instrument if you can swing the price. I found mine online for almost $1k cheaper, so look around and you'll probably be able to find a more affordable price.
