Practice and Patience

Practice and Patience
Let me say, that whole "up to 6 pounds" thing is a lie. I know my 5D3 is heavy but it's not THAT heavy. It couldn't balance on this. Until...I went over to Home Depot for a solution. I stacked two sets of about 25 washers (which were super thin, by the way) on top of each other, and that added just enough weight to make this useable. I don't have it 100% balanced, but it's very close. I know I probably should've gotten a more expensive/reliable one, if I'm going to be using it with such a beast of a camera. But I'm experimenting and didn't want to spend $500 on a GlideCam just yet. I spent all of my money on the camera, after all. Lol.It takes a lot of patience to balance something like this. It also takes a lot of patience to get the technique right. You sort of have to tread lightly like a ninja to help this stay stable, and reduce shaking. Patience is something I've never had. But if I can be patient with this process, so can you guys/girls!If you have frail forearms like myself, and you add more weight to these things, your muscles may not like the extra baggage. With the camera mounted, my rig weighs in at just over 8 pounds. It may not sound like a lot, but when you're holding that one arm out for a long time with extra weight that it isn't used to, it could be a pain.As I use this stabilizer more, I will jot down more notes and edit my review as I see fit. Thanks for reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy Stabilizer on a Budget
Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2019
I can't believe I was able to pick this up for this price! I've been waiting for about a year to pick up a stabilizer for my DSLR and I'm glad I picked this one. It's very solid....and stable, once you get the hang of it.

The Great:
1. The entire thing is made of metal. It's got a great finish and has a lot of weight to it.
2. It comes with six weights. For my Canon 200D with a mic I only needed the two larger ones.
3. Easily adjustable. It did take a while to get things perfect. Glad the knobs are grippy and easy to adjust. The little levels aren't exactly useful in a vertical position, but I guess if I wanted a sideways shot I could use them to my advantage.

The Okay:
1. Once you get things set, it works extremely well. The issue is that it does take quite a while to make things balanced. The video they provide does an okay job, but I found another person with this stabilizer who made it very clear. After watching his video it took about five minutes to get this set up!

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this stabilizer. I have one extra carabiner on my to-go camera bag and this will definitely be hanging from it! A nice tip I got from YT: Etch a little mark on the different mounts and weights so you know where to place them for the next time you use this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great price and quality!!!
Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2020
My experience with the S40 handheld stabilizer has been solid. I'm pretty new into videography, this is the first stabilizer I've ever owned and I'm really pleased with the build quality, and the overall performance. Even though it's not as good as gimbal, but it's totally worth it and you don't have to break the bank for a stabilizer at least for a start.

I love the build and how sturdy it is. I love how compact and how it grips your camera and you can have it balanced. You would need some practice with this to perfect the stabilization aspect which is why you would even get it in the first place. But it's not gonna take forever to learn in a few weeks you can totally get used to it. I've tried some pretty heavy lens on this stabilizer and it really performs well for the most part.

The only down side to this stabilizer is the fact that it doesn't perform as good as a gimbal. You're gonna need some practice with the stabilizer to perfect it. Apart from that I totally love it!
