I hope TP-Link hops on the DOCSIS 3.1 train soon - that'll give me a reason to give true gigabit internet a trial run.
Now with the wired computer I get at least 400Mbps and so far up to 445Mbps though I imagine at peak times that may go down - but it's good to know this cable modem is not the problem with not getting advertised speeds. My wireless computers get less, but that's going through a router, so it's not the cable modem's fault for lack of speed but most likely the radios in the laptops, and/or the router.
I paired this cable modem with a TP-Link AC3200 wireless router on the assumption that the two products from the same manufacturer would work together well - and they do. I am getting better performance than I've ever had before not just over the internet but also computer-to-computer on my home network.
I'm a happy camper and would buy this again! I hope I don't have to for a while, though, I hope it lasts and if/when I need or am offered more speed that it will handle it up to about 1000 Mbps...
Setting the modem up was pretty easy but you have to be patient. I just plugged the cable into the coax port and plugged my PC into the Ethernet jack and, after a few minutes, all the lights went solid (good sign) and I was able to hit the management web page of the modem. I still didn't have Internet and was not being auto re-directed to my provider's provisioning page, so I called my provider and the very nice support person did what they needed to do on their end to make it work.
Right now, my speeds are right around the tier I currently pay for (150Mbs + or -) and the connection seems rock solid. Overall I am happy with the purchase and am happy with the product. Hopefully I will use this for at least the next two years in order to recoup some of my money!
One thing... after it was hooked up and I had Internet, I still had to re-boot the modem and my router a couple of times before I saw my full speeds so keep that in mind. It seems that these things take time and reboots to "settle in".
Also, a quick nod to Amazon Prime. I purchased this yesterday and it arrived by 9pm via free one-day shipping. You can't beat that!
Top reviews from other countries
It was super easy to set up (literally just plugged the cable into it, then a cable from the modem to the router).
Performance has been good and I'm getting the advertised speeds. Seems more reliable than my previous modem through Rogers.
I'm happy with this!
Update: People were asking if this works with Rogers. You'll want to check with them. I switched my services from Start back to Rogers as I got an offer I couldn't refuse, and when I asked them about whether I could use this modem; I was told I could not (and I asked 3 different reps) and I had to use the Rogers gigabit one (for the Ignite 500 package). While this modem was great; I had no choice but to return it. I would caution to call them if you're attempting to use this with Rogers...
So if you're from the GTA definitely pick this one up rather than renting a box.
