Hope-Shifting: Finding our acceptance, security, purpose, value and significance. Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 14 ratings

What have you put your hope in? How have you been left wanting?

Every day we wake up and make decisions about what will ultimately bring satisfaction into our lives. Some people think money will satisfy, while others decide that a certain relationship or experience could do it. There are so many ideas, philosophies, religions, people, actions, and things that claim to be the key to satisfaction.

As we look at the innate desires that God created us with (the need for acceptance, security, purpose, value and significance), we'll look at how we unsuccessfully turn to religion and the world in efforts to meet these needs. Then we will look at how the God who created these needs knows perfectly how to fulfill them (the gospel).

The gospel is so much more than a prayer of salvation or hope to get into heaven. The gospel is good news that each and every moment God meets the innate desires that he created us with through himself.

Instead of hope-shifting, we have been given the choice to have our hopes met in him.

Wonderfully written. A very useful tool. Great for believers young and old. It is easy on this pilgrimage to allow our hope to shift to things that are worthless. Things in this world and even our own ability to maintain some level of religious piety can easily take our hope off of Christ. Jim has done a great job, by God's grace, pointing us back to Christ. I highly recommend this book for individuals and/or small groups.

The Kindle version of this book is not done well at all! The graphics cover up the words and make sections unreadable. It is a very short book and is seems like this would be a simple fix. I agree with an earlier reviewer who suggested you skip the Kindle version. I figured that in the year since he reviewed the book that they would fix the problem, but they didn't.

Great book! Although the kindle formatting is a little messed up. But my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it together.

Insightful and concise study. Jim has a great grasp of the bible and a knack for getting to the heart of the matter.

Thought-provoking book about remembering Jesus' message and how we're supposed to be living!

The concept of hope shifting is a total game changer. Idolatry is explained in simple to understand terms and in a way that showed me how often I shift my hope onto religion and behavior. I'd recommend this book for any believer looking to understand the gospel in a deeper way. Better yet, partner this book with Tim Keller's,The Prodigal God, for a double-dose of gospel centrality.

Message of this book is good, but the Kindle formatting is not good at least on an iPad. There are sections that I could not even read because they were covered by the graphics. Would not recommend the Kindle format.
