length is much longer and you do not need to do as much cutting. The box was longer then expected and most come in the length of 1.5FT x 5.9FT this is MUCH LONGER at 3 FEET by 6.5 FEET - it is TWO of the other size boxes in length. This is a think material and easy to manipulate and even was fine when I had to remove it to put onto another window once dry. I have used other Gila products on my windows for decorative purpose and the quality will hold up and stand for years. Thank you for making a GREAT PRODUCT for my SON.
1. DON'T BUY THE INSTALLATION KIT. You simply don't need it. A spray bottle filled with water and with a few drops of dish soap in it will do nicely for the solution you need. I also purchased a 12" squeegee for a couple of bucks at my local grocery store. I used it for both cleaning and application. I've seen tips to use a credit card to get bubbles out. Why use 3" when you can use 12"? (that's what she said)
2. CLEAN THE GLASS REALLY WELL. If you have a razor blade (like from a box opener), use the edge of it to go along the glass and remove anything that might be stuck. You might not see that speck now, but you'll definitely see it once the film is applied.
3. MEASURE, MEASURE, AND THEN MEASURE AGAIN. When you have the measurements, subtract that from the dimensions of the film. That will be the amount you need to take off from the length and from the width. It's easier to measure and mark what you DON'T need, than to measure what you do. Depending on how much you trust your measurements, add an extra 1/8-1/4" on each measurement.
4. DON'T USE A RAZOR BLADE TO MAKE THE INITIAL CUTS. You'll just end up frustrated, and possibly cause snags and rough spots on that edge. The film is fairly thick and you'd need a really sharp razor to make a clean cut. Instead, use scissors to trim the excess. After I made my measurements, I marked a line with a sharpie and straight edge, and just followed that when I cut it. Much easier.
5. SET YOUR UNCUT EDGES AT THE TOP AND SIDE. That will leave you just one side and the bottom to have to trim, if needed. As you begin to squeegee the bubbles out, keep an eye on the top. It will tend to slide down just a bit because it's riding on the slick application fluid. I didn't have a helper, and I don't think it's needed, but if you have someone to hold the top in place, it probably wouldn't hurt.
6. LET IT SIT. Before you get all excited and start trimming to finish the job, let it sit for a few hours. This will allow you to see if the film moves at all and make those adjustments. Mine didn't move, but you never know. Waiting also allows the film to "adhere" to the glass better.
7. USE A SHARP RAZOR TO FINISH. If I were to do it over, I'd get an exacto knife to make that final trim. I used a box cutter, and it worked, but I think the exacto would allow better dexterity when making the final trim. You also may find that you don't need to trim it at all, and can just tuck it in place using a straight edge. Definitely use that straight edge to hold the film down and also guide the razor when making the final trim.
And that's about it. A few final comments about this. From the outside, the film is dark and you can't see anything inside during the day. I've even turned on all my lights and stood outside, and still couldn't see anything unless I got right up on the window and cupped my hands by my eyes. The black of the film makes the reflection of the glass more prominent and that's all you see. You looking back at yourself. At night, you're able to see in, but it's still darkened. From the inside, depending on how sunny it is, it just looks kind of like an overcast day with a slight sienna tint.
Overall, very happy with the results, and I can't wait to see how it performs this summer in the Florida heat.

update: it fell off after a week. Did not stick to window at all, was so flimsy.
Lo unico malo es que el rollo solo alcanza para una ventana. Pero no se puede tener todo.
